So he's certain that tearing down the veil will kill everyone? Didn't he say, way at the beginning in Haven, that the world without the veil might not be so bad?

Man, I'm still holding out for Sandal's prophesy coming true. The DA-verse without the veil sounds awesome. Everybody multiclasses to mage!

Oh no, he states quite clearly that he will destroy the current world with his actions.  I was a bit shocked about it, since it seems so contrary to what we know of him.  He even says something along the lines "if they are going to die, I want them to be at peace before it happens" when you ask him why he even bothered helping with the Qunari invasion if he was going to kill everyone..

I have another question! sorry guys but I just got home and it's still downloading for me. Did Solas actually say that in order to put his plan in motion the world and it's people would have to be destroyed? or did he say that destruction is something that will probably happen but not necessarily? That will make a big difference for me.

Also most of my Quizzy's would not have gone with him but I definitely have one who lost her entire family and clan and would've held on to him with every fiber of her being (she's pretty unstable). The decision would not have had to effect the next game in a big way, all he would have had to do was mention her in passing etc. so they could have implemented it if they wanted. However this makes me highly suspicious that our inquisitor will probably be a major NPC in the next game, maybe....One can hope.

I'm still wondering if I should play my Cass Romance first with how sad this is making me; I hope that turns out happy at least.

Edit: Never mind, I guess someone busted a ninja move on me

Also I am most certainly unsatisfied and definitely not intrigued.....I still love him though

Halp Me!

What drives me more mad than this is him going

"I'm not Corypheus. I am no monster."

Talk about PRIDEFUL, eh?

I mean, just tell Thedas exactly that, I'm sure they will understand...not! :bandit:

He made it quite clear to me that his actions would lead to death on a massive scale (see above comment I made)

Welp. I guess he needs that kick in the ass even more than I thought. :/

I am reminded of those countless JRPG villains who are all, "The world sucks, therefore I will DESTROY it!"

He believes there is no other option to tear down the veil. It's either his people, or modern Thedas - so he chooses his people and modern Thedas will burn in Veilfire. The Inquisitor, if they are his friend, can say things about proving him wrong and he says that he would like that/tells them to try if they want to, but that he doesn't believe it could work. Still, he also says that he didn't see Thedas' people as people at first, but that the Inquisitor proved him wrong.

To his credit...and I give him a small amount of it right now, since you all have gotten me heated, haha...I thought his description was very sad when he compared current-Thedosians to being Tranquil-like to him.  I don't deny that our disconnect from magic might be a significant difference from old-Thedosians...but the fact remains that they are NOT tranquil, Solas.  They are worthy of life, regardless of what came before them.

...gah.  I really hope Lavellan has a cameo in DA4 and drags his ass into an Eluvian by the ear.

Does he actually want to wipe out the entire population or does he just accept that a whole lot of people are going to die in the process?

When he said that he would kill this world, I thought he meant that he would kill the world order, or whatever, Governments, religions and whatnot will not survive his changes.

Slaughtering the entire world's population seems very un-solas.

I wonder what people from the continents outside of Thedas wonder about people constantly fiddling with the fade. :D

He doesn't want to commit genocide, he believes it is the only option to bring back the past and the time of his people. He even tells a friendly Inquisitor that he hopes they try to find a way to stop said massive genocide. (I just don't know the exact words anymore.) So no, Solas does not want to kill everyone. However, he believes it is the only option. Just like putting up the Veil thousands of years ago was 'the only option'. He's still being all high and mighty and "I'm better than Coryfish because I'm not a monster that wants to see others suffer!" though.

Yeah. Knowing that, his rather desperate excitement to share all things Fade-related with the Inquisitor is even sadder.

On the other hand, he's so compassionate during Inquisition that this seems like a really weird about-face.

Then again, compassionate seems to be his default. Maybe he just allowed himself to forget for a while that he'd planned on destroying the world.

...It feels weird to even type that. Destroying the world is what supervillains do. Solas seriously needs some perspective.

Every race is just a worthy of life as any other. He's just plain racist. The fact that he thinks that that's ok is just .... gross ...

He said this world must be destroyed. i.e. the elvhen empire will come back along with the fade and everyone else will be shoved to the side

yay ... not.

I think it has to do with the fact that he simply could be Solas for a while. For some time, no one he cared or knew he was the Dread Wolf. Everyone treated him like just another elf - not ideal, but when a 'god' gets treated like a normal person (relatively speaking) they mostly behave differently than normal. He probably hadn't felt like himself for years upon years. And then he could simply be Solas. And Solas is compassionate. Fen'Harel, on the other hand, is a rebel god first and foremost and has duties that the simple Solas could pretend to forgot about for a while. *cough* Lavellan romance *cough*

Everything would be fine if Lavellan was going to be in DA4, but noooo.. So she was like i`m going to save you from yourself.. wait, hmm, sorry, i want to but cant, since i`m not in DA4.. Did Cullen get nice romance ending? might as well just try that..

It's sad people are quick to give up on Solas. I have seen enough proof he can and will be redeemed if that is the path you choose, and that he now realizes that if someone like the Inquisitor exists, then not all hope is lost. He just saved their life too. He is not going to lose me. I will be there just as my Lavellan/Trevelyan said. He needs a friend now more than ever and a monster can't love, but he does, so he's no Cory. Similar, but he's not hopeless unless made to be in DA4 (and I doubt that). And DA4 strongly hints that the Inquisitor is not done. Maybe not a PC, but not done with the story at all.

the one beacon of light in this horrible mess. Thank you for saying this. I agree with you. At least I know the character I thought was amazing was Solas, not Fen'Harel

I think it's less about elves as a race, and more about their connection to the Fade.  He's been living the dream of what was for way too long it has clouded over his conception of what makes a person "real", and his obsession with living most of his life in dreams isn't helping.  If he took the time to walk the world after waking up, and stopped dwelling on what was lost, he would find value in what is.   Lavellan ALMOST got to him enough to leave it all behind, but it wasn't enough.

I thought he meant the world order. The nations, governments religions etc will all be toppled. But the people themselves wont be wiped out. Loads will die in the process ofc.

Bring back the old world does not necessarily mean bring back the empire.

I will always like to believe he is redeemable, and in every DA game/DLC from here on out I will try to make it that way

I better word for how i'm feeling would be "betrayed" actually

how ironic

I dunno - his sudden crew of spies HAS GOT ME WONDERIN'.  Who are these random Joes who know he is Fen'Harel over his fcking girlfriend???  Since it was confirmed that the elf guy in 'The Masked Empire' was working for him, we know he has been gathering them up pre-Inquisition.

...GAH, I am even more pissed.  This is good, though.  Angry is better than sad.  Angry will fuel me for 3+ years until DA4.  ...yes.  Excellent.

I wouldn't say racist. Misanthropic? No, that doesn't work either. He doesn't hate people. He's just trying to correct what he views as a mistake he made.

Of course, it's horribly condescending to label modern Thedas as a mistake. His thinking is most definitely flawed, and influenced by pride (it's his fault that things are this way and thus he should be the one to fix it). I mean, history marches on. Reversing one harmful decision does not make a helpful one. But I do see why, having experienced what he has, he might think that way. Doesn't make it better, though.

It does, however, make for the beginning of a lovely redemption arc. Potentially, anyways.

Wow all this is making me wonder what he feels for a rogue/warrior Lavellan as opposed to a mage one....I'm actually kind of surprised that he can connect with one who is not a mage.

Thank you! Solas says so himself, after all! Solas came first and Fen'Harel was a title given to him that he (tried to) wear with pride, despite it's harmful meaning. He really was a normal mage once in his life and it was the amount of circumstances that made Fen'Harel out of him. So, he pretty much wanted to be Solas when he was together with Lavellan, but the importance of being Fen'Harel just became a more pressing issue than being commited to a woman in a world where you feel like walking amongst tranquil.

Oh not you lol I meant all the "Solas must die" I'm seeing posted. People seem to lack anything but vengeance without looking deeper into it. And if not romanced, it helps to have a high approval friendship with him. Shows him he's wrong about people. It's a start.

I consider the ancient elves separate from the modern elves, considering how different they are. I think Solas sees everyone but ancient elves as lower "races" due to their disconnect with the fade. He is obsessed with the whole concept of "spirit" self and "physical" self, so anyone lacking the "spirit" side he would probably view as not as "real" as his people.

Lavellan did get through to him though. But she's just one person. He thinks she's "rare and marvelous." She is the remarkable exception.

He is redeemable, i think, if he would just let Lavellan try, but he seems pretty adamant about doing his own crazy thing.
