What makes this so grimdark and weird is just...I mean I can see this being OPTIONAL, but, uhm...how would you even make something like this REMOTELY romantic? Like "Hey, I'm going to be careful. Shh, here's a soft kiss to STIFFLE YOUR CRIES!" ? I'm so confused and scared.

I'm scared too! I mean, a hand removal was not exactly what I expected out of this romance. (Though I have seen fanart of it at one point many months back.)

DISAPPOINTMENT covers it for me. I mean, Mike said we wouldn't be completely satisfied, yeah, but I don't feel very intrigued. And it seems like we have absolutely NO CHOICE. Also, him only coming in the end and disappearing again? I figured it would happen, but I was hoping so much it wouldn't. That was probably the thing I LEAST wanted to see...

I actually don't know if there's a word to describe that.
Keep in mind- it is very hard to judge something just via game files. Don't jump to too many conclusions just yet, at least not until we get some text dumps or the DLC launches.
Then people can start burning things.

Give me ANYTHING fluffy with the others to make her at least not completely miserable.

The thing with the other companions is that you can kind of expect a tragedy for certain decisions and choose accordingly, such as not making Cass divine or saving the chargers; it's just that it seems there will be no choice for a Solas Romance at all when one could have easily been made; that's the kicker. I mean, sure you can say the Solas romance was supposed to be tragically beautiful and doomed from the beginning but now it doesn't really feel beautiful at all.... it just feels like the dead horse has been beat, drowned, run over and then lit on fire. It kind of takes away the beautiful feeling and puts it into almost comical territory.
However I'm still going to hold out hope no matter how futile it may seem right now. I really trust Patrick Weekes writing and seeing as I haven't even played the DLC I'm going to try and not let my imagination run away with me but if this is true... I'm not really sure I can look at the romance the same way again.

I think you put how I'm feeling in the best words. It's not tragically beautiful anymore, if this is indeed the only outcome. I can understand it as a way to "save" the Inquisitor, but for a Lavellan who romanced him? It's brutal. I'm literally crying right now because I can't see their relationship the same now...

I just hope that that 'solasdungeon' features Solas as a companion for a short, limited time. "A final fight together", like with the Divine. So we get to see him for a little while longer than five minutes. Pretty please.
