It's pretty official now and it makes sense really. The Orb was Fen'Harel's and after it was destroyed by the Inquisitor, his remaining power was trapped within her hand. He leaves feeling shamed and seeking out another way to continue his goals, most likely knowing that one day he would have to take the Inquisitor's hand (another reason he dumps her because he can't bare the thought of knowing what he'll do) because without him there to stabilize it and her being mortal, her life would be in jeopardy.

Heck I bet he had planned it after Corypheus was defeated, but he ran away because he couldn't bring himself to do it.

Also the devs did say finding Solas was part of the main game, but they cut it due to time. This was probably how it was meant to end, but by making it a DLC, we got extra DLC's to enjoy.

I was mulling this over...and you know how the romance is the only was his card changes? Maybe a romanced Lavellan is the only one who -doesnt- lose a hand? Maybe instead of taking her hand he offers her...immortality? Mortal Death but a place at his side? I could see her being tired enough to go there.

Better than "Solas yanks your arm off and cackles".

There is obviously context we don't know, and without it we are just grasping to find meaning in things that we can't understand.

I'm going to choose to think that Solas did love Lavellan, and still loves her, and so whatever he does he does it out of love.

All the races are armless. It's not really bad and he won't do it in a cruel way. This is still Solas and remember he does care about your Inqusitor. He never lied about his feelings and if a non-female elf gets the balcony dialogue about respecting you, I'm sure he wants to make up for the curse he placed on you unintentionally. Saying "This isn't how it was supposed to happen" with a pained expression and watching with sad and lonely eyes as the Inquisitor greets her friends is not a bad person in my books.

You can be an elf and not romance Solas. I meant specifically for elves that romance. In any case it matters not.

I'm excited. Its gonna be so awesome and moving and I'm kind of excited for my poor Violet who romanced Cullen.

We do know every romance gets extra stuff, so I hope this is true! I know he did not lie when he said "what we had was real" because at that moment he had no reason to trick her or lie.

For my PT though I'm just playing my mage Trevelyan who romanced no one. This is all about friendship until I get the feel of how this DLC workls based on your in-game choices, then I will try a Solas romance.

And loving Lavellan doesn't preclude him taking the arm. We know a) he loves Lavellan and B) he values his cause even more. The mark is hurting Quizzy *and* contains a good chunk of his power. So it makes perfect sense for both altruistic and not-so-nice reasons.

Conclusion: the Solas romance is tragic and a bit twisted.

That perfectly describes a Weekes character, no?

His DA ones anyway.

It's definitely not to everyone's taste, but has increased my interest in him. I like tragic and twisted at least sometimes.

I'm a sucker for that stuff and when I write fanfics I tend to lean toward his style myself.

Yeah, my kind of romance. I can have boring in real life.

I'm still interested in figuring out why someone mentioned in the Reddit thread why more people weren't going on about Weisshaupt being mentioned in the datamining? Was it?

There is armor with its name. I mentioned it here on page 3 or 4 I think. Also Bloodmage armor too!

You know, before this DLC, I've never expected that "twisted" would be something to describe the Solas romance. Tragic, yes. But twisted?

*sigh* Oh well, at least it's interesting, to say the least. I might as well accept it. :P

If Solas HAS to take the Lavellan's, then I hope for a big emotional cutscene where he has to do it or the mark will kill her.

He's saving her but its killing him inside because he has to hurt her. OMG stahp.

Nah, it'll be like one spell, *poof!*, oops, no hand! Hahah Vhenan, I used to take everyone's hand in the past, eh good times!

I haven't been sleeping lately.

lol, I'm trying to imagine how the hand removal scene would go. Even if he was trying to remove it gently (with a spell or whatever) I can't help but... find this whole thing amusing in a twisted sort of way?

Solas steals Lavellan's heart, takes away her vallaslin (assuming your Lavellan chooses that option), and now he takes away her hand... Heh...

I don't know... I don't know what to think anymore.

I think it would definitely be interesting if Lavellan [male or female] had the opportunity to leave with him. But I might just really like the whole elf plot business, and would hate to be left out of it.

I wish we could hear the sound file for it. It might give us an idea lol

Yes, I think that would be interesting. Lavellan, whether male or female, going off with Solas on an elfy quest to do whatever it is Solas is planning to do. xD

Any chance that the dataminers could upload the sound files for that scene? I'm dying to know. :P

Honestly, anything could happen. It's all speculation. What I know for sure is that Solas is part of some "finale," there is an outfit probably for a severed hand (and there is only one, meaning that we would be done with the main gameplay of the DLC and unable to change our outfits anymore since no other clothes could accommodate), Solas is not a main contender in the DlC yet plays a significant roll somehow, Iron Bull could most likely turn against you if you didn't save the chargers, weddings could possibly occur (or maybe it's just a pretty dress for an event), and something sad enough to make the devs depressed will happen.

What I predict is that: yes, Solas *can* take your hand if you let him (remember, bioware really values the player's choices). I also think if you are a solasmancer Lavellan you could accompany him on his mission to do elfy things. You could also maybe die if you refuse to pass over your hand, or you could pass over your hand and have a marriage ceremony with your LI (not Solas).

Yes, I have come to the same conclusions.  May they come to pass.   :)

Yeah! Lavellan isn't an ancient elf but after all this nonsense they at least deserve some sort of honorary short person position. Only fair.

I don't think it will happen. But I hope it does! And I like the idea of it not just being a romance path either- if male Lavellan doesn't mind leaving his friends behind, I'd think he'd have earned Solas's respect by now.

She may not be ancient, but Kieran says her blood is.

Oooo, how about a pretty, tragic sorta ending.

After taking her hand, Solas gives Lavellan a small potion and tells her to take when she gets back to the Winter palace. Then he walks through the eluvian.

After everything is said and done, Lavellan takes said potion and everyone thinks she is dead.....but the potion actually just put her in uthenera.

Cut then to a stinger where we see Solas walking in the Fade, and then spirit, astrally form of Lavellan walks up and Solas manages to merge said taken hand to her spirit form in the Fade and it's okay because for whatever reason the Anchor can't kill her spirit in the Fade so all good Then he takes her hand(as in to hold it while walking) and they walk off together into the Fade sunset to go do whatever it is Solas is going to do.

If you didn't romance Solas, you just see him walking in the Fade. Alone. Depressed. With a hand.

I'm really trying to hold on to optimism. And it's not pretty.
