Recommended: Heart of Despair Staff (Lvl 24), 1 Superb Ring of Life Drain, 1 Enhanced or better amulet of Aggression

The idea behind this build is to draw as much aggro and mobs into your vacinity as possible, relying heavily on 80% damage resistance and freezing blasts, with constant HoK regeneration. Asaara's Leap, when upgraded, provides you with an "uh oh" button to escape immobilizing effects. This is a high-risk build, but fun and effective at crowd control. Ring of Asaaranda and Athlok Burst can be switched to the fire element when fighting ice-based enemies or those resistant to freezing.

The Build:

Asaara's Leap (Upgraded)

Glyphs of Aqun (Upgraded)

Ring of Asaaranda (Upgraded)

Athlok Burst (Upgraded)

Mandatory Passives:

Guardian Spirit

With Strength, Endurance

In Ignorance, Weakness

Recommended Bonus Passive:

From Power, Mastery

How to Play:

Attempt to put ice glyphs on you and all your teammates with Glyphs of Aqun... or at least on you. Throw down Ring of Asaaranda (opening), cast Athlok Burst (flow and finishing) to draw enemies in and freeze them. Repeat Ring of Assaranda (this time opening and flow--this increases the speed of all your attacks). Repeat with Athlok Burst flow and finishing. Can also fade step in, and begin Athlok Burst flow and finishing set. Repeat by dispelling the ice with another opening set of Athlok Burst for extra shatter and fire damage.

Also, for the hell of it, it's fun to use a finishing Asaara's Leap to "teleport" to any group of mobs you can visibly see, and just start spamming Athlok Burst (full set). This is more risky, but highly rewarding. For good defense, though, should begin with Ring of Asaaranda.

The damage resistance from staff, glyph and ring of asaaranda does indeed stack. And the passive gained by With Strength, Endurance keeps you at (and would be well-over, infact) 80% damage resistance. Any teammates in the vacinity will also gain a max of 45% dmg resistance just from being near you.

The aggression amulet is meant to keep enemies flowing into your freeze zone, thereby keeping your HoK up. However, since aggression also attracts archers, it is a good idea to set up Ring of Asaaranda defense and either auto attack or use finishing leap to reset cycle. I also suggest equipping a crit dmg ring to maximize damage, or otherwise a second HoK ring to increase endurance.

Note: Tested on Perilous. Higher difficulties to be determined.

Alternate Build: Barrier Bot

Use frost glyph on yourself and allies

Hit Ring of Asaaranda opening and flow

Use finishing barrier

The glyph and ring abilities power up defense casting speed and barrier takes care of the rest. Tested on nightmare, more effective than virtuoso barrier bot. Heart of Despair staff still strongly recommended.

I was running shield instead of ring earlier, then started running ring instead. It helps to add in that fire damage from the ring finisher as well as the damage reduction. I was taking perilous like it was nothing with no promotes over 30.

Yeah the fire damage is nice. In fact all the sets on that ability are decent, I'm only listing the ones relevant to damage resistance for the purposes of this build.

I tested the first build with heart of pride staff in NM. If I switch the glyph to electric, I'm unstoppable against mobs that  can be frozen or pulled by the burst (since the mobs are stunned briefly when pulled by the lightning). But I get screwed after few seconds by mobs that are immune to both (i.e. pride demon).

However, if I switch to frost glyph, I still can't tank properly without heart of despair staff.

P.S. Nope this build won't work in HB. Not for me anyway.
