Greetings. I am planning to do a mage playthrough but I have a problem. & the problem is that I want to RP a caster mage who does not want to use Blood Magic.

So what specialization do I pick for her ? Is Spirit Healer the only option ? Arcane Warrior and Shapeshifter are not pure caster specializations.

Pretty much... you can use that free spec point in Awakening to get both Keeper and Battlemage if you want.

While I have used a mage 3 or 4 times I make my mage as strong as I can. You do not want a weak mage especially later in the game. I choose "Spirit healer" so I can obtain "group heal" and "revival".

I choose strong black magic spells and avoid other less  important spells..

One good spell is "animate dead"..You can raise the enemy dead and they will fight for you.. Another good spell is "knock back". This protects your mage from mêlée  attacks.

Hmm, I could try Animate Dead next time I play (either as mage myself or give it to someone from the party), maybe create something of a necromancer build. Spirit healer also has that healing aura (sustained ability), it's incredibly useful in battles with high amount of friendly NPCs (like Denerim), you just need to have a lot of mana for it.

Tidus - what the hell is black magic in world of Dragon Age exactly?  :)

What I call black magic is stuff like ice, fire, walking bomb, hex spells etc- my terminology is probably from years of playing Final Fantasy. :o  Not to mention all the magic terminology used in DA:O is hard for me to keep track of which spell is which.

You could take the Arcane Warrior spec and just use Shimmering Shield - a very good shielding spell. I often play a pure caster mage with Spirit Healer as first spec and AW as second and don't use Spellweaver or armor, but stick to spells. Shimemring Shield can help you out, if you are surrounded by melees. But of course, saving the second spec for Awakening is possible too. I really like Keeper and Battlemage - no one will ever harm you again in melee  :) (ok maybe some of the bosses, but the rest - not so much)

My new favorite spells are the Mana line. Especially Mana Clash - nearly always a one hit death for Darkspawn emissarys or other enemy spellcasters - and it works on shades too. Great spell. I just mention that, because I seldom used that spell tree before and was often frustrated with the amount of damage, emissarys did to my group, especially in the deep Roads.

I'd just stick with Spirit Healer and Battlemage for a pure caster who doesn't want blood magic. Keeper is a good school, but it's built more with one strong sustain although there is one good active spell in it.

yeah that's primarily the one I go to as well when I play a mage but then when I play as one I tend to play him/her as the healer of the group as it's always a good idea to have your healer around when doing the main missions especially as it's in those that you get tested most in terms of being under heavy attack and needing to use those powers.
