so in mass effect 2 you are being told at some point that the reapers are moddeled after the race they use to create them,

this was confirmed with finding the human reaper being created with human's genetic information.

so why is it that mass effect 3 contradicts this by saying all reapers, regardless of what race they use to create them are instead moddeled after the Leviathans?

is there a significant reason to why this changed, or was the idea changed due to mass effect 3's reaper invasion (saving up time by only having to create 1 reaper moddel instead of countless variations form new races they were based on)

If anyhting I think its a shame, it would have been interesting to have seen different types of reaper's instead of always the same one.

even now tough, if all reapers are based on the Leviathans... what was the purpose of the human reaper?

If I'm not mistaken, that human skeleton was going to be the core of the reaper, eventually it would've gotten an outer hull resembling the traditional squid form. (this, or they needed an explanation when they realised that things contradict with the estabilished lore)

In the end of ME2 (see picture) we saw a number of different reaper designs, some very cool too, but in ME3 all reapers look the same as Sovereign. It is a shame they did not include the others.

really wish bioware would update this eventually if they find the time to make the reapers all look different. I mean I get it that its a lot of extra work, but it would have made the game a lot better as well (even tough its allready very good right now of course)

(and if not then they should just create a mod tool so I can make it myself :P )

it's a leaf insect nymph, not a squid.

This squid is quite reaper-ish, though.

There's always arguing about this :)

In the ME artbook they wrote the Reaper design is based on the leaf insect nymph.

But I like the squid idea too because I love them, haha.

There doesn't seem to be much hard science in ME. I mean, kidnapping humans and turning them into Genetic paste? The human reaper existed for no other reason than to make an awesome boss fight at the end of ME2. The reapers in ME3 all used the same generic model. Notice that Bioware in general is very lazy when it comes to modeling. All Krogan in all three games use the exact same model, there isn't even variation in height. The same with the Turians(With the exception of Nyreen in DLC). All Drell wear the exact same jacket with a popped collar, even the ones in MP. In Short, Bioware would rather make endless pallete swaps, hence the lack of variety in reaper designs in ME3.

The smaller Reapers you fight on Tuchanka and Rannoch are based on the insect nymph; the larger Reapers like Sovereign are based on squid.

My head-canon, based on that brief shot of the Reaper armada at the end of ME2, is that the basic template of all the large reapers is based on the Leviathans, but then each individual's form is modified based on its origin species.

Just head-canon though.

The Human-Reaper was going to be the core of a Sovereign Class Reaper (which all look like Leviathans).

The other Reapers seen at the end of ME2 are most likely the other Reaper subtypes (Troop Tranports and Processors) or maybe ME3 did a little retcon of the appearances of Reapers from this scene. Probably a little bit of both.

Individual reaper designs would tie into what sovereign has to say and as shown at the the end of me2.
However given this was defenestrated in me3 (and probably to make things cheaper) we have one design.
