:crying:

Okay I've got ME2(digital deluxe) installed via steam. When I go to launch it the cursor changes to the loading cursor than back to normal and nothing happens. The machine continues to work as though I hadn't started ME2.

If I open the task manager I see mass effect 2 as a process with 0 cpu and around 6,500k. I wait 5 minutes it does nothing.

Anyway the interesting bit is that now Dragon Age won't start either, and neither will KTOR(this freaked me out). However the Dragon Age character creator opens just fine.

I remember having a similar problem with ME1 (not from steam) when I had a creative labs sound card installed, but now I am using onboard sound and getting that same problem.

Anyway here is my system:

Win7 Home Premium 64 bit
Asus P6TD motherboard (onboard soundMax audio)
Core i7 920 (not overclocked)
12 gigs of ram
2 x Geforce 285 in sli (196.21 drivers)
SATA 500gb HD
Kaspersky Antivirus (I've tried "pausing" protection)
Running through a d-link hardware router

Other steam games run fine on my system including: Risen, Torchlight, Hinterland (which uses openAL), Left 4 Dead, and Batman AA (which also uses the Unreal Engine).

About 2 months ago I upgraded to Win7 (64 bit) from vista (64 bit) and I can't remember if I tried any Bioware games since then. When I upgraded I updated all my system drivers manually (chipset and onboard sound). The only driver I didn't update was the network driver.

ME2 runs fine from my steam account on my machine at work which is winXP 32 bit.

I've tried running steam as an administrator I've also tried setting the launcher and game to run as administrator (in their compatibility settings). When this didn't work I set it all back to normal. I've tried running the setup program and saving a config, for which everything was set to default, my monitor res is set to 1920x1200 which is correct. I've tried turning off sound in the config menu, and renaming the openal.dll (which I set back to normal after this didn't fix the problem).

Is there any sort of log I can look at to find out what is going wrong? (Maybe Bioware could add one?)

Having issues launching game with windows 7 as well, digi deluxe version (I think) via steam.

Not exactly same issue, I get to splash screen, then crash.

If you had it preloaded make sure you've restarted Steam. It has a terrible habit of appearing to do nothing when it's actually decrypting the files.

By the way my Steam copy works perfectly on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

It was regular version though not DDE.

Decryption worked fine for me, just had to be patient. Besides, Ive since deleted all local content and redownloaded. Issue persisted.

Firstly make sure you restart steam.

Now,

Try verifying the integrity of your local files.

Right click on your game from the list in steam.

Go to Properties

Go to the Local files tab.

Click on Verify integrity of game cache.

Once this process is done try running the game again.

I had preloaded it but when the store showed it as released but the "my games" tab didn't I removed the preload data and downloaded the regular version after it actually unlocked about half an hour later.

Since then I've tried restarting steam and then rebooting the computer.

I had the same problem but was able to fix it by doing the following:

Right click on the game in steam > Go to Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache...

That fixed my problem and I was able to play the game!

That hasn't helped. I tried turning down UAC as far as it will go (there is no off switch in win7), that doesn't help either.

I had steam open the Mass Effect 2 Launcher and ran configure from there, then launched the game and had no issues. This will also get you where you import me1 characters so that's why i did it. I just set my setting to minimum the first time and upped them while in game.

Anyone know how to contact an official tech support person? Usually after messing around a few hours I can get things to work, not in this case.

I'm really annoyed that it's a silent failure, seems like there should be some indication of what's wrong.
