He's still bringing up valid points.

Citadel DLC says 'Hi'.

Seriously though, Donk was suggesting that BW should cater to everyone, not try to please everyone on earth.  Catering to everyone means to have something for each group of people to enjoy.

There is infinite amount of groups: cat fans, anime fans, cowboy hat fans and so on. They may intersect but all of them cannot be pandered (like "here's your anime cat in cowboy hat" pandered). Yet you mention "each group" like you have some particular set of groups in mind. Just like OP. Interesting.

BW focusing on 1-2 groups instead of acknowledging the others is a good way to take a hit to their PR, which would only pile on top of the PR hits from DA2 and ME3.  By catering to everyone, they'll be able to limit any potential PR hits.

Nah, not really. I heard there is game which sorta did that and still got some sales. Something about collecting cards and horse riding, can't remember the name.

At the end of the day, 82% choose to play as male Shepard. No matter how you try to twist it, it is clearly shown that most players tend to play with the male option.

I'm curious about this "more content for dudes". The game should allow us to press a button in non-combat areas that allow us to just crack off silent farts that clear areas in hubs. That counts, yes?

That is weak sauce, Do not enter that sauce in the county fair cause it is weak.

If they ever created a game purely based off player data, they could just have it end abruptly at some random point. Since the vast majority of gamers do not finish games. Could you imagine, you've just finished a recruitment mission or something and... roll credits. That all she wrote! Haha.

Played. Past tense. I'd be interested to hear a gaming developer's take on this idea to overhaul a business strategy based on outdated statistics.

Any thing to avoid reality huh.

Because why wouldn't you use player data from he last game to determine what you do in the next.

Considering how fans always attack their vision it might not be a bad idea to take an extra look at the data.

Of course you would. Considering data is smart. Expecting data to remain entirely stagnant, not so smart.

Because any company that is going to succeed isn't going to base their entire business model around trying to please raw data.

So what are we saying?

That players shouldn't be able to choose between a male or a female protagonist because the majority is playing male anyway?

What's wrong with having options? Why deny that to people?

Being able to play a female protagonist is a big draw for a significant portion of players, no matter what the majority did.

So what are we talking about then?

Why is it being brought up that "at the end of the day" 82% of players played as a male Shepard?

MerchantGOL seems to be in this thread just to argue with people, but without actually saying anything.

Has anyone said anything? I've seen a lot of vague blather, but no actual concrete suggestions

Some ones taking this all rather personally to resort to attacks like that

You're just proving what I said. I'm not attacking you, and it's difficult for me to take any of this personally considering I've had no stake in the discussion at all. I'm amused because you seem to be trying to make a point yet completely unwilling to put any thought or effort into making it. Lady Artifice wrote up a thoughtful argument and your response was basically "Nah, you're wrong, but I'm too lazy to say why."

Then explain how come the data for Mass Effect 2 was virtually the same?

Look, just accept it, yes, women are becoming a larger and larger demographic in the gaming industry, but at the end of the day, it statistics (at least Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3) shows that when given a choice, people would rather play as a male than a female. Does this mean that Bioware should eliminate the choice to play as a female? Hell no! I enjoy playing as a female in videogames and I am a male. Hell, in fact, I am getting ready to but up DAO again and play as a female Elf Mage. I would be HIGHLY upset if in MEA or in the new IP if we were forced to only play as a male. I am just saying that the male demographic remains the dominate demographic in the gaming industry.

I think people confuse BSN data with OVERALL data. Here at the Bioware forums Female Shepard, Female Hawke, and Female Inquisitor is very popular, even to the male characters. However BSN demographics does not represent the general demographics of those who buy and play Bioware games. This is what people forget. Step outside of the BSN bubble and you will see a different perspective.

Even most recently, it has been revealed that more peopled played with the male IQ than the female IQ.

I don't see the point of this being brought up here, since the thread seems to be about pandering.

I could just as well say "At the end of the day, the majority of players chose destroy."

Fact.

But does it have any significance in the context of this thread?

No.

3.8% of people deserve to get shot

And don't pander to anyone, make the game you want to make. Please and thank you

I Don't think i need t write a half a page to explain why listing to your own data is a good idea.

Singling me out with passive aggressive attacks dose suggest some emotional response
