I change depending on the presets. A Drell Adept on Ghost Hazard against Collectors is definitely a NO!

Depends. Usually I keep my character unchanged, but I ajust sometimes. If I drop into a lobby with 3 adepts I will probably pick an adept too, and / or ajust the ammo I'm using accordingly. Same for a racial team.

Hell, pretty much every asari. Pretty much all of them have sort of universal detonator.

I'll switch to certain classes or away from certain classes depending on who joins. 3 grenade characters = no thanks. Also, I like my biosplosions so I'll Drelldept, Fury, Valkyrie, Shaman, HA in a minute if another primer/detonator joins, b/c despite my love for the (Quarian Male) Engineer class, at the end of the day I love biotic explosions above all else.

Most of the time I would like to keep my character, since I usually preselect a character I actually feel like playing, but more often than not, I end up changing to accommodate the lobby.  Just the other night, I joined a lobby of adepts as a SE.  Since they were going all biotic, I changed characters to the Human Engineer with disruptor ammo.  I even had to respec my character to make sure I had both chain lightning evos (I usually only choose the first one).  There were so many tech explosions, it was like the Fourth of July, it was so beautiful!

 

If there is a Fury in the lobby with a Best of the Best banner, I usually switch to Jav GI and follow the Fury around, making sure to clear her path for her on the way to the empty corner of the map.  I figure with a name like Fury, she probably needs lots of alone time and meditation and doesn't want to be bothered by rapy husks.  It feels good to be a good samaritan sometimes.  Most of the time it doesn't, but once in a while... it's like finding a Jolly Rancher in your pocket.

When pugging, I'll usually keep the kit I had selected before joining, as that's usually what I feel like playing, and you just don't find enough teamwork in the average pug lobby to justify me changing it. If there's some hint that might not be the case, such as if everyone is playing a biotic and they look like they know what they're doing, I might consider switching, depending on my mood.

Pretty much this ^^.  Except if I drop into a lobby with 3 adepts, I will always pick an adept.

 

Also, if I drop into a lobby as an Infiltrator and 2 other Infiltrators are already there, I will switch to a different class so as not to put too much aggro on the 4th guy.  I played one game as a melee Krogan with 3 Infiltrators once, and I wouldn't wish that misery on anyone.  If there are 3 other Infiltrators, I will switch to an Infiltrator too, for the same reason.

When playing with other players with detonators, switch to Paladin and spam Snap Freeze #yolo

Depends if we're playing PPR platinum. PPR platinum changes my entire strategy.

I wait for a mysterious, cigar smoking man of questionable ethics and politics, and spandex wearing right hand woman to give me dossiers.  I then travel the world, recruiting the best of the best, solve their pathetic personal problems and then choose the right people for the right roles, building my team to go kick Collector ass.
