I played through my first playthrough without any mods but I've been informed that there are mods available for this game on nexus. What are some recommendations? My first playthrough was human male rogue, my second will be Qunari female mage.
Second playthrough - mod recommendations?

I like the no-dirt mod so your black pants stay black during the prologue lol and through the game you don't look covered in mud and you can see the actual colors of your outfits.

I fired up the nexus mod manager and had it scan but it doesn't seem to support inquisition. :-/

Before I compile a huge list of recommendations, what exactly would you like to change about the game? Mods have gone very far since our brilliant mod-makers figured out how to mod the game. Even mesh-modding is available now, to a degree. Thanks to patch 9, though, certain non-cosmetic mods are no longer working and, I assume, would need to be updated by their creators.
So, looking for cosmetic stuff? Game-changing stuff? Cheaty stuff? All of the above?
Edit: Unfortunately, NMM doesn't work with Inquisition. You'll need the latest custom-made mod manager which you can keep up to date on via the DAI Suite Loader.

There's a more complicated mod manager unfortunately due to the engine Inquisition is built on. There are already a tono f mods available however. However, witht he implementation of the latest patch some of them might be broken.

That's a fair question. Though I don't know if I will even play another character after this Qunari mage, if I do, better beard options for men would be good. Would have liked to have had more hotkey slots. Um... other than that, I don't know, kinda why I was asking for suggestions.

Modmanager works with new patch. IF you get the chunks issue just delete the chunks folder as it runs and it will keep on going.
For a female Qunari I am not sure what mods are best.
I used the body mod to make my elf no longer have arms that sucked into his chest (I used the standard body).
I like the Undercut ponytail hairstyle so use that and the needed sidecut mod to make it shaven on the sides.
Cole with no hat mod is nice as I hate that hat.
And I use the DAI hair recolor ap to give me either real black hair or blue/violet, etc.
No dirt buildup is nice and if you really want to go wild there is one that makes all wartable times set to instant.
I know there are some nice vitaar and forward mohawk for female qunari as well.

Hmm... I haven't seen better facial hair yet (at least, not on the Nexus), so I'll have to dig around for that. As for the hotkey slots, I'm not sure it's possible to modify those yet (if ever).
Incoming list of stuff:
Cosmetics (as far as player character-changing stuff goes, I'll only recommend stuff for male humans and female qunari, as per your specifications)
Edit: A second list has appeared!
Script/game-change-y stuff (AKA: the first things to break when a new patch comes out)
Let me know if I've linked anything incorrectly or repeatedly, etc. Also, if you need help using the DAI Mod Manager, or can't find the instructions for it, let me know, and I'll try to write up something quick for you. It's surprisingly simple.

I would recommend the camera zoom mod but it is currently incompatible with the newest patch
. Otherwise it is pretty awesome.
The difficulty mod makes the enemies auto-scale which is nice. There are lots of hair mods even for qunari females that you can pick for your inquisitor. No dirt buildup makes that weird color that gets on your pants when walking around disappear. If you don't like how your inquisitor's body looks, there is a great body mod that alters how the inq looks with the casual clothing.

Cool, but do I need to start a new game every time I add a mod? How do I add just that one more? Do I have to start over with a fresh patch file? Cause I'm a dummy and forgot to make a backup before I did it.

Always make a backup.
You don't need to start a new game. You can add a new mod on top of a modded patch, though the version number of the patch will increase, which might confuse you once DAI updates again because your saves might tell you you can't play them because they were played on 'a newer patch'. Lower the version number in the package file once by editing with notepad once you merge again. It's best to do this each time you merge a patch. If in the future your saves become 'unplayable' because they tell you you played them with a newer patch, then increase the version number until it works in the package file.
