I am just wondering what gives them that idea in the first place. I am not trying to be rude or anything like that.

Here is an example, 2 out of 5 comments on the PS3 page talk about this game being online, with one person mentioning I hope this game has AI (They think it is a online game, or did at least) and another mentioning something like that it is great that online games are coming to consoles. I am sure there are other places where you can find examples of some people thinking this is an online game also.

EDIT:

It seems some people there are posting inaccurate information as well. One person mentions flying dragons, I don't think that is accurate?

The first guy seems to not have read up on the stuff so I wont fault him. His post gave of a vibe of thinking the online aspect would be much like NWN.

But the guy with horrible grammar, poor spelling, and the fact that he thinks PCs cost well into the thousands to build for a good rig makes me want to strangle a cat over a bathtub filled with fire. Oh, then he mentions WoW.

The last guy says KotOR II was Bioware. Made me confused.

That "crowd" thinks every game is online.  They also almost always have above mentioned bad grammar/spelling.  It's something you learn, then learn to ignore.

;)

Ya, it seems there is some people who think KOTOR 2 was made by Bioware and that NWN 2 was made by Bioware.

This is just my guess, but maybe it has to do with all the in-game items you can get from pre-ordering the game or buying the CE. I personally have never heard about an offline, single player game offering in-game items you can get to use with your game until recently. That's usually something offered by an MMORPG.

Again, that's just what I think.

Also, the first guy may have just not read all of info page on the game that is on the page before you select preview buzz. Because on that page it shows that it is a 1 player game.

Might be because of the video that shows a PC (I think) jumping off a tower onto a dragon.

Back when it was known that BioWare had an MMO under development, it wasn't known that it was The Old Republic, and Dragon Age was under the mainstream radar, there were some very reputable (or leastwise popular) gaming news sites mistakenly reporting Dragon Age as an MMO. I'd say it's largely their fault.

My roommate's fiance made this mistake recently. When she started mentioning Dragon Age, he started gushing about how excited he was about its release... And eventually referred to it as an MMO. When she corrected him and described DA:O a bit more, he got confused and didn't think it was the same game he had in mind. Maybe there's some MMO coming out soon that people are confusing it with? Either that or everyone just thinks RPG = MMO these days.

Well, it's hardly new that people who're ill-informed start spewing nonsense on commentaries, right? Happens...well, everywhere(yes, I just woke up and haven't had any coffee yet :P )

I think that's very common now amongst anyone who only started gaming in this decade. Understandably, all things considered.

DA:O is also being previewed by MMO news sites like ten ton hammer. The previews are all pretty clear that it's single player and that their coverage is unusual, but folks who only see the headlines or lack basic reading comprehension may get the wrong idea. I think it's great Bioware is reaching out to these sites, personally - it's not their fault people don't perform basic consumer investigations into new games.

Indeed - most single-player RPG's haven't had very broad marketing recently. The Witcher was/is a great experience, with loads of additional content, but many people I've spoken to, want nothing to do with it because it's not an MMO.

Im sure Dragon Age isn't the only game where people have a misconception of what the game actually is...

It sure isn't - I know a lot of people were surprised that Brutal Legend is really an RTS.

I personally won't mind playing the game co-op online with some harder contents.

I can imagine that player-made modules will be created targeting solely on real player groups co-op play. Wait, I think that's going in the direction of WoW's heroic instances. =X

I guess your typical "bad grammar and WoW reference"-guy wasn't even gaming back then. Most younger gamers just seem to think of RPG and MMO as the same thing, which is actually pretty sad.
I thought with MMORPGs becoming mainstream, RPGs in general would get some love (i remember being the only guy playing BG2 back in school), but i guess it didn't turn out so well
