To be fair you're talking about the younger generation of mmo players, the appeal of an online world should not be about collecting trophies and mindlessly grinding levels, but other people playing along side you or with you, interaction in a breathing world. The latest crop of mmos unfortunately have not done this all that well, but hopefully in the near future we'll get back to that and maybe more people will discover it's ok to make up your own stories.DalishRanger wrote...
While I understand the appeal of MMOs, I can never get into them myself. I prefer playing alone, or maybe once in a while a "party game" with a couple of friends. Story and character development are the main drives for me to play games, and I find MMOs just can't properly implement it. Most people in online games, from what I've seen, focus more on grinding and collecting items rather than roleplaying. It just doesn't appeal to me.
There is actually a lot of role play in any mmo, you just have to look it for it as the RP community tends to keep to itself and I'm sure you can imagine why..
Anyway dragon age as an mmo would be ok except that it wouldn't be ready to release yet and it would seriously lack in the story driven department that we love from Bioware. This is also a major problem with TOR, it remains to be seen if they can actually bring story driven content to an mmo the way they usually do it in their other games.. And if they succeed will TOR be actually considered an MMO?
So far the best online worlds I've seen are the ones where the devs give people tools to make their own content and not push things on the player which is what we have most of right now.
