Less Synth more Metal.
Ahh, good stuff, good stuff indeed, warden=epicness.
Duncan isn't dead though.
I don't.
Though I'd like to go closer than most of DAI was.

When sacrificing Isolde why is Morrigan jerking in the background? Is she getting off on the blood sacrifice?

If you choose to have her break the possession with jowans help that happens i think

I believe your confusing tone with subject matter.
We laughed so much when that trailer released, redubbed it a few times for fun.
It's nice to see people are nostalgic about it now.

Apologies then. Difficult to tell in text format without smiley's or an lol or something thrown in there. ![]()
I get what you mean. The dark fantasy elements of Origins is one of the things that got me hooked on the game in first place. It could of passed as a full on horror game at some points. Some of the enemies certainly looked as if they were cut straight out of a horror movie (e.g. Brood Mother, werewolves). It's pretty much non-existent in franchise now, which is sad.
In Origins I felt intimidated by the big bad guy and his minions (Archdemon and the Darkspawn), but not in the other games. Mages, Templars, Qunari, and Venatori aren't that intimidating. However, it's not just the way the enemies looked. What really makes the Darkspawn different is that they cannot be reasoned with. They are actually evil. Whereas the main enemies in the other games can either be reasoned with (e.g. mages and templars), or they have understandable motivations for being the bad guys (e.g. Venatori). Although, I will say this, since DA2 the Darkspawn don't look as intimidating. I don't know, their new models just don't give the same impact as they did in Origins. I remember the first time I saw a Darkspawn up close (I think it was during a cutscene). I was like: "Ugh, that thing looks gross." But in the other games they just looked silly to me.
I ... hate this Dark Fantasy stuff. Every game and series at the moment - fantasy and Science Fiction - is now DAAAAARRRKKK Fantasy. Even Star Trek is now DAAARRRKKKK. I don't want this dark stuff all the time (a few series & films and a few games, but not ALL OF THEM please!!). If I want to see "Dark stuff" I look the news. ![]()
I LOVE the DAI world because FINALLY it's not sooooo dark. Sometimes it's dark and unfriendly, and sometimes it's just normal with a little bit hope.
Great! Just great, thanks Bioware! ![]()
Few people are writing: Make DA with more Dark Stuff, like The Witcher. But .... why making a TW3 copy? Should Bioware really be a Witcher- copy? I think they should go their own way. DAI was very successful, I could imagine that a lot of people liked the "normal not-tooo-dark world", like me. And: Isn't it enough if TW3 is a "Dark mediavel world"? Must EVERY fantasy-roleplaying game now be "Dark - medieval"?
Don't forget: My english is not the best.
Sorry, for it.

No one even mentioned The Witcher here until you did. The OP wanted DAO style, not Witcher if you read up.I ... hate this Dark Fantasy stuff. I know. But it was mentioned in 435 other threads
that DAI should be "darker", like TW3. So I though it could fit here.
Try hard epic with no real teeth.
I meant I don't want exactly what DAO was in exact tone.
I'm not disagreeing with your sentiment, only the exact suggestion.
I have no problem with a more hopeful DA actually.
But I don't want it to be a trend. Like you said 'no real teeth'. Okay, I can do that for one chapter. But even with Trespasser, I hope some of those teeth return, and then get bared in a DA4 in Tevinter or something.
The darker lore is still there. Even the new lore. There is still brutal stuff in DAI.
Is it relatively sanitized? Is it less 'metal' (haha)? Yes to both.
But I'm okay with shifting gears all over the place. I don't actually consider Origins to be all of Dragon Age and what it can and should be. I know many players do, especially since they spent several years attached to it, but I don't.
But a future game can take more many more cues from DAO's tone, sure.
I certainly do not want things to get any lighter than DAI was. And really, if they go any lighter, they may as well call themselves a T rated game (not literally, just arguably sorta). I'm not saying they ARE there, definitely not. But they're more heading in that direction, and I understand concern about that.
DAO was not as cool as you make it out to be. During the time of this trailer, this trailer was mocked. Both DAO and DA2 had laughter towards it for being so mock edgy and needlessly brutal in order to attract the male kiddies who want to be part of something bloody.
You may miss it. I may kinda miss it. But in the end, its about preference.
I don't think a DA game will be 'more Conan' though, just predicting here. If anything, it will get increasingly magical and increasingly weird. Not to say there won't be warrior brutality around, but I think you may have seen max-warrior in DAO and kinda DA2.
And I don't think Patrick Weekes is the type for hopeless dark metal violence etc etc.

It doesn't have to be a Witcher copy to have a dark tone. I don't think DA:O's dark tone was anything like TW3's dark tone. DA:O's darkness was more of a horrific sort of thing. TW3's darkness is more about the grittiness of the world and the sorts of vile things that people do rather than supernatural forces.
I understand that you prefer things to not be so dark, that's cool and all. A lot of people do though, and for such a long time in video games everything was all light and fluffy. There are still a lot of that sort of game though for the kids that are just getting into gaming, and then there are darker, more adult themed games for those of us gamers that are all grown up now. It's a great time to be a gamer. ![]()
I want horrors like the broodmother to come back, I just also consider it an immature sort of darkness.
I'm more interested in a good person going bad, and existential despair, than a bad faceless monster. Or a big fat blobby thing with many boobs.

Technically speaking a broodmother is a good person going bad. Well, that is if the female in question was a good person before the darkspawn turn her into a broodmother.

Technically, yes. Also beyond her control, something she is literally forced into by monsters. So that's not really what I mean by 'good person going bad' and you're just misrepresenting my opinion. I'm aware that broodmothers were non-broodmothers before.
DAO has, technically, 'good person going bad' and 'existential despair', but it doesn't focus on it. It focuses on the fight for survival for a kingdom and ultimately Thedas, as that's what means the most in a Blight, and why Wardens are given such licence to take whatever means necessary against the Darkspawn.
But I think Dragon Age can be more than that and I'm at least glad that Bioware seems to share that. Good person going bad can mean many more things than the blatant DAO examples of Darkspawn. And existential despair can mean many more things than a Blight.
I want these things included, and I even am among those complaining about the darkspawn being more clownish in DA2 and DAI compared to DAO, but I'm totally okay with exploring more tones in each game than just following the DAO tone exactly.
I never thought I'd see the day that the trailer that almost literally broke the old Bioware forums - with people actually lamenting the death of the company and declaring DAO a betrayal, among other pejoratives in the vein of falling to live up to BG2 - would be remembered fondly.
Hey! We don't about that in here!
