This thought just hit me; why is it that charges are generated by number of hits? This greatly limits what abilities effectively work with Spirit Blade. Why not have charges be generated by damage dealt instead? At least that way more abilities (instead of just one or two) would be able to effectively boost Spirit Blade. Or maybe just increase charge generation values for skills that aren't multi-hit (or multi-hit easily).

Maybe they were concerned with impenetrable shields created by PROMOTION LORD level damage?

That thought crossed my mind, which is why I added an extra bit at the end of my initial post.

Kind of happy with it. Else it'd be impossible to charge up with CL against pride demons or RT horrors.

spirit blade sucks now imo. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but with hakkon staff and over 250 willpower I can only get a couple hundred dmg out of it even when fully charged.

Are you sure you're not using an Inquisition staff?

I'm at 50 willpower and recently did an 8.8k crit against a Giant. Spirit Blade only sucks when you spam it now.

Pretty sure I know which staff I'm using, yep.

It's possible I missed the higher damage number I'd have to retest to make sure. Regardless, I don't use spirit blade now particularly in light of the Storm Pact belt which supercharges basic auto attack and chain lighting for almost infinite barrier.

There's always a second smaller damage number from the staff's spirit rune. Perhaps that's what you were seeing.

Thinking about it some more, I think the devs went the wrong way with their SB modifications. Instead of losing damage with each swing, the damage should be constant until the charge for SB runs too low. Boost the damage per swing back up too 300 - 400% weapon damage, and the performance would be more consistent and enjoyable. Constantly shifting damage makes using the full combo feel lame. Man...this is one situation in which the devs clearly messed up, in my opinion.

So far from what i've seen, a full charge of 99 gives me three pretty powerful swings, that is unless you take the upgrade which consumes all charge in one hit. Also getting back up to 99 is incredibly easy as well. one chain lighting into a fade step with a few auto attacks is 60+ easily. The only thing i've noticed is that like many other characters the arcane now "shares" his charge with other arcanes, you know what that means... lol when other arcanes swing their SB's it takes your charge basically making SB crap since you never have charge.

I'm loving this new spirit blade though, hitting spirit weak enemies for 10k+ like nothing and most other mobs for 5k+ is ridiculously good, plus as i said before its sooo easy to build the charge back up if you are the only arcane in the lobby.

Not everyone uses Fade Step, so charge generation can suffer, depending on the situation. I kinda like the new SB, but I think there's room for improvement.
