So I got this char. I made him look very knightly, long hair, mustache, very noble. I started as tank, s&s, but changed him to two hand. Now... What to do with him? Seems to me that great swords or hammers etc are awfully slow... Can't really be harmful in battle... I'm around level 10ish or so.
Seems to me a tank makes sooo much more damage... Am I doing something wrong? I could also go back to s&s if the need be... Second issue is... Who to take along... Of course it changes if I go back to s&s... I'd like to romance Cassie, and wanted either sera or varric... Mage probably viv...

Thanks if someone can point me in the right direction!

All my cannon charcters are 2 handed human warriors, usualy female, and you have to put the best equipment you can on them, and equip their party as well as you can until you can make good stuff. I don;t like one handed warriors, for some reason don't like shields. I almost take Iron Bull with me, but evey now and then in the middle of a fight I will find him picking daisys.

Well you need a mage for barrier.  If I'm two-handed  I'd probably take Cassandra for tanking.  In fact I'd probably take two mages.

If I want to kill a dragon I might bring Sera but don't know who to leave behind. :)

They do swing slow, but you can animation cancel using the search ping.  That speeds it up a lot.

The pre-Skyhold build thread linked above should help with build, and it encourages a style of knocking enemies down and getting damage buffs on them as a result.  2H is really more hybrid controller and damage early game instead of pure damage.

What happens then, in late game? Do they hit harder? I like being able to crush 2-3 enemies at a time... due to AOE damage. Forgive my ignorance, I just didn't use any 2h until now...

Well I have only picked Reaver with my 2H characters, and that changes it quite a bit since you gain an ability that will often substitute for the basic attack, and it has faster attack speed and does more damage.  Templar can do decent combo damage with two of its abilities, and Champion has a taunt that is a damage buff, more or less.

With respect to the auto attacks, later when you have higher stats with good critical chance, attack, etc, you will hit them harder.  Early game I always found it difficult to really do a lot of damage with the autoattack though.  Knocking enemies down, then hitting them with Mighty Blow, or using MB to detonate combos, seemed to be the best way to deal damage early game.

Well, since I made a noble warrior, I liked the idea of the champion. Still... my party is still "under construction"... Noble party would include viv? but who will be noble as a rogue? ;) And shall I take Cassie or Black as tank? (p.s. want the Cassie romance)

Any warrior will do fine as a tank and any mage can play support mage.  I recommend spec'ing every rogue to archer though to minimize melee (you already have 2, you and the tank).  There is a 2H champ build that is popular.  2H champ would let you tank, which frees up a lot of options in your party (like having 2 rogues for some interesting banter).  However, it is extremely reliant on high crit which forces you into using an axe.

If you want insane damage go reaver.

If you want insane survival (even after 1.10) go champion

If you want a mix of everything, go templar

Complaints:

Reaver can leave you feeling like you aren't a 2H warrior.  The reaver animations don't use your 2H (you tear the enemy with magical dragon claws that appear attached to your arms)

Champion damage can take a while to build, and you start to feel like a whirlwind robot after a while

Templar lacks the ability to put some serious damage on a big nasty target (like a dragon or alpha ogre)

This thread....AHHH.

Everytime I read the title I hear the song by LMFAO "Sexy and I know it" but instead it's "Sexy 2H Warrior and I know it".  Yes yes, it makes no sense but I couldn't remember the lyrics to the song.  So I kept trying to use the title of this thread and it was making me LMFAO (which was ironic yes).

I'd definitely go Champ. But I'd like to go Sword, instead. What does it change? Crit only? I don't have problems in waiting as long that my PC becomes a noble machine of war and defense. I don't know if I'd like to tank with him but... why not? Then you take varric and sera? or cole? And I believe Viv...

2h champ rely on short cooldown of walking fortress to survive. 2h tree passive 'Flow of Battle' reduces cooldowns via critical hits. Before 1.10 Walking Fortress upgrade could also reduce cooldowns. Now you must rely on crit. You'll want 50% critical chance if I had to hazard a guess. This is very hard to achieve mid-game but you can get close.

Not sure how well 2h great sword champ is gonna go after 1.10. Probably fine if you play casual/normal and/or run with another SnS tank in party.

We'll soon see: I'm at Level 17 with a 2H Champ Vashoth and this is a no-crafting Nightmare run, so forget about 50% crit. I'm already feeling the cooldown debuff. I had to switch out Whirlwind for Pommel Strike to have a faster attack skill.
