Im on my second play through i chose to help the mages the first time as an archer. Im now playing as a mage and finding it difficult to make the decision.
What are the long term repercussions of choosing the templars as a mage?
Is it worth experiencing that quest as well?

What's the point of buying the game if your not gonna do everything lol.
You can do as many play throughs as you want just so you know.

Templar one is much more difficult due to supply caches being much less than the mage mission, so beware.

I choose the templers normaly, because I am VERY angry that the mages made an alliance with Tewinter (TEWINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
). And I like the templers, I think their work is important. It's horrible that a lot of templers are assholes but: Look at Tewinter what happen without "real templers".
1.) Reason to try one time to choose the mages: BIG SPOILER ABOUT FIONA ATTENTION: Wahh where is the Spoiler Button?
2.) Reason to try one time to choose the mages: And also: I like the personal Cullen Quest and this one you can only make if you choose the mages. If you choose the Templers you can make Lelianas personal quest, with the mages Cullen's.
3.) Reason to try one time to choose the mages: The quest in Redcliffe is also VERY good!

the templar quest is more chalenging , cause the envy demon is stronger than alexius . and it give a better introduction to Cole . cause he help you fighting envy demons . and if you do the quest right you will save sir baris . a templar night that will be in skyhold woth culen and have many wartable operation . i always choose the templar quest over the mage quest cause it have more logic . the mage quest lead you to alexuis trap = time magic = you loose in the present and you comeback from the future to correct your mistake . while the templar quest you go kill a demon that is corrupting the templars . well that what the inquistor do ? kill the f*cking demons
So you see that no one else spoiled it for him yet you for some reason see the reason to? Like really?

You should pick the templar quest because it is fun.

I always find the mage quest the most satisfying, and it also stems from my support of the mages in DA2. That and finding out about the Elder One's plans through the whole time travel sequence is pretty cool. And honestly, after walking into Val Royeaux and getting completely dissed by the supposed Lord Seeker I can't imagine having a good reason to run off after the Templars. They also earned no points from me for punching a priest just to make a point.
Additionally, once you find out about the Tevinter presence and the time magic in Redcliffe then you cannot really offer a good reason to turn your back on it. In my first playthrough I had no reason to believe the Templars were doing anything other than sitting on their armored keisters and snorting Lyrium, so the mage's plight seemed the most urgent and spelled out at the time. Now that I do know that you are essentially deciding which army gets absorbed into the Elder One's ranks, I find myself less inclined to abandon the mages and especially Fiona (a great character and Alistair's mother).
My greatest regret for abandoning the Templars to their Red Lyrium Snort Fest is losing out on Ser Barris, who is a pretty good guy all around. I'll definitely set up a Templar tower in Skyhold in his honor.

Champions of the Just is a far better quest then Hushed Whispers. Plus being able to redeem the templars and make them a group they should be is faaaaaaaaaaaar more satisfying imo. Plus you get a far better side villain then Samson later.
Also Ser Barris.

I'm on my first play-through and after siding with the mages at first I went back where I saved and sided with the templars afterwards. Both are definitely worth experiencing. I sided with templars eventually but it's just a matter of preference.

It also does not help that templars have the awesome Ser Barris but mages have Fiojna >.>

I prefer templars, especially for mage. You show that not all mages are blind to dangers (I know Vivi is there, but she has small public unlike Inqui). Quest is far better than one with mages, also Calpernia rocks. Hope you will enjoy your choice. :>

Considering previous games have been quite biased towards mage-supporting choices in the past, I think that they handled the templar quest line really well this time.
I strongly dislike very one-sided conflicts and I've been itching to see Templars be redeemed (mages always get a free out of jail pass because oppression) and they've received that to a decent degree in Hushed Whispers Champions of the Just, not to mention the mages dun did bad because of their alliance with Tevinter.
Edit: Oops, I meant that the Templars received a decent redemption in "Champions of the Just", not Hushed Whispers... I keep confusing the names ._.'

@Toasted Lama: Well said. I like that it's more even-handed this time, and Champions of the Just plus the following war table missions make for a "redemption story" that I enjoyed quite a bit (though I wish the whole conflict had been given more attention ... like pretty much every other story arc in the game).

Yeah the lack of attention given to the whole conflict does make it feel like it's not as big of a conflict as the lore made it out to be. Circles all over Thedas are rebelling, chaos and fighting all over the place, but the Inquisitor just deals with 1 issue and done. Conflict solved. Now fix this breach for me will ya? After that it's all Corypheus.
Makes it feel like the actual issues as to what started the conflict in the first place are handwaved away. (I didn't even realise I was fixing the mage/templar conflict by doing the missions)

Honestly, I enjoy the Templar quest a bit more than the mage version. The whole fighting possession theme is better compared to the time magic. That said, I choose based on the type of character I am playing. I still feel cleaner and more logical to help the mages overall. However, for my magic hating/fade hating characters I go with the Templars.
Unless you are a mage with a similar outlook like Vivienne who didn't experience any of the horrors of circle life, I can't imagine choosing to aid the Templars.

The mages act like fools in DAI;
Murdering innocent people for their own freedom.
And as said, willingly allying with tevinter-duh.
At least a lot of Templars can claim ignorance as defense.
I won't spoil anymore, if it hasn't been already

I haven't played a mage at all so I am curious as well about what the long-term repercussions are about a mage specifically siding with templars. I would imagine that it's more tied in to whether a mage allies with the templars or disbands them. Probably would lead to interesting conversations with Solas, Vivienne, and Dorian?

I did play the templar quest only once, and probably won't do it again. I think "In Hushed Wispers" is more exciting and emotional, and has better characters - altough I must admit I'm a bit biased because the templars pretty much epitomize everything I despise and I think they got exactly what they deserve.
And yet there are many templars like Barris who are against the things you despise and want the templars to revert back to what they should have been, defenders, not oppressors. So saying they all deserve what they got is pretty childish as many many many templars where forced to drink red lyruim against their will or in the case of Barris, killed because of resistance. Hell all that happens is the mages are put into servitude by their own choice, templars are forced into terrifying body horror and corruption. It's clear which is worse

The templars started a genocidal war before they took the red lyrium and all templars in Therinfal Redoubt including the rank and file followed Lucius for months and participated in this war. The templars who stayed loyal to the chantry like those in Hasmal survive and that's great, but I won't shed any tears for the templars in Therinfal Redoubt.
