I am for stand alones because I don't want another random ending like ME3 had. I think it would be better because they could do a Keep thing for Mass Effect and may end up being able to bring more of our choices over to the next game.
What makes you think a "Keep" implementation will handle choices better than savefile importing? It's basically the same thing.

I either want another trilogy or three standalone stories with the same character.
Any more will force Bioware to railroad certain story elements to make each new game manageable. They'll probably have to do that anyway.
@Ajensis: Because with the Keep, each new game won't have to make space for choices that don't matter just in case they matter in a latter game. At least, I'm assuming that's how it works.

Importing saves was buggy and had the problem of plot flags. They had to plan out which choices would matter for the future before they even finished the first game. The Keep allows them to avoid most of the bug issues and lets them decide which choices are important as they go.

The next game has references and in some cases builds off of the events of the previous but we have a new story and characters per title. I wouldn't mind some characters returning, but only if it's plausible and makes sense

Well Bioware wants to leave the door open for someone to start from the second one and such that is why I mention a Keep. The Keep will hopefully prevent Bioware from alienating the returning fans as they try to bring in more fans to the series.

I wish that Bioware went more with a format that wasn't always based around saving the galaxy/world, with extreme far-reaching consequences. Something on a smaller scale that is more personal, where you can obviously change a lot without say, disrupting everything around you. A story where you are just your character and their crew, and not superstars known the world over. You don't have to be the center of the universe and it's savior to have a meaningful adventure.
