Hi, just finished JoH for the 2nd time and noticed that Ameridan seems to have Falon Din Vallaslin. I thought he worshipped Ghilan'nain based on the things you discover during JoH such as the shrine at one of the Tevinter outposts.

Anyone else notice this? Am I wrong in my understanding from JoH?

As was said, it's Dirthamen's. What confuses me is I thought the Dalish started doing the tattoos after the fall of the Dales... which was after Ameridan went into stasis. So... he shouldn't have tattoos at all? Confusing.

Dirthamen, my bad the only pic's I found online had those as Falon'din but anyway ..... I thought in JoH he worships Ghilan'nain?

It probably is safe to assume some time around Andraste giving them a home they figured it'd be nice to get some of their culture back.

That really passed my attention and I don't think anybody has mentioned it yet. But you're right.

I am guessing that the tattoos were reserved for a select few amongst the Dalish, maybe reserved for clergy? Those in political power like Ameridan?

I was more thinking it was an oversight when the character was made, but sure, it could be that. :P

And yes, as I've understood the lore, the Dalish started with the tattoos to gain some of their culture back -- after they lost their second homeland of the Dales. Which Ameridan was not there for, as he was locked away in stasis. He had no idea the Dales had fallen when you wake him up.

Ameridan wouldn't just worship one of the Creators. I don't we've seen any members of the elven religion who worship only one.

When it comes to Vallaslin, I think it's either an oversight or a retcon or both, because before DAI I also was under the impression Dalish didn't wear Vallaslin before the fall of the Dales. That's certainly why the Dalish wear it now, but then we saw that the elves in the Temple of Mythal also have it.

The elves in the temple of Mythal have it because they were wearing it for their original reason -- they were in service (or servitude) to a god.

In any case, I think the tattoos are placed on the elves who relate closest with a certain god of the elven pantheon. Oversight or not, I can easily headcanon that he was part of some elven clergy that was special and what not before vallaslin was common hahah at least it looks cool.

Thanks for the responses. I just thought it was weird how there were parts during JoH where it specifically came up about Ghilan'nain but then I noticed the tatoo didn't match. Most likely an oversight but a weird one if so as it is pretty prominent.

Hey completely off topic but another thing I can't find is any speculation over who specifically killed/betrayed Mythal for her to want to give them a reckoning that will shake the earth!!!! If you know of any posts relating to this (none come up when I search) and can point me in the right direction would be appreciated :-)

http://forum.bioware...ore-discussion/  is pretty good when it comes to lore discussion/speculation.

Otherwise it's all over different threads. Many speculate that it was Mythal's own husband (Elgar'nan) that betrayed her the same way Flemeth was betrayed by her husband

I don't think Ameridan wearing the Vallaslin is a retcon or a oversight. If anything, this may prove that few individuals back in those times like Ameridan wore them as intended and that Vallaslin was embraced even more in the later years as we see now.

Thanks for the link. Yeah that has been my speculation as to what happened but keen to here other peoples ideas.

I'm not sure why precisely  Ameridan would want to wear them for what they were originally intended, but anything is possible I guess. I'm just working with the clear lore we have so far, that the elves forgot they were slave markings by the time the Dales fell and so their idea of reclaiming their heritage was muddled when they began using vallaslin. The Dalish lore has it that they mark their faces to honor their gods, which if they were carrying the knowledge of what they were originally intended for in Ameridan's time they likely would not have forgotten at the fall.

So... anyone's guess unless it's stated one way or another. As it stands, a pre-fall of the Dales elf having vallaslin is a bit strange when we were told it came into use after.

"Greetings stranger"
I didn't even catch that his vallaslin was the wrong one because I was trying to get everything down and get out of the frostback basin before I hear "greetings stranger" for the 1000th time and I hadn't even been by strong-bear hold that much
Just as annoying as the exalted plains

Off topic with the whole Vallaslin talk but the whole Ameridan being a mage and an Elf of all things was a big shock as well as an inspiration to the point where I may start an Elf Inquisitor. With that news I really am curious to see what will the Chantry and the rest of Thedas be like after hearing this news of the last Inquistor.
