I dont understand why Bioware wants to implement that feature again.

Just to artificially extend the playing time?

I remember one of the tips for DAI when it was released and people stopped playing it after 2 hours.

"Leave the HINTERLANDS!".

People just dont want to explore huge maps with static placed NPC's with boring fetch / collect quests. It's so time consuming and boring.

You're not wrong. Of course, I think a huge part of the problem was that ME1 didn't feel like the game was built from the ground up with space exploration in mind. It was essentially a narrative-driven cinematic experience with a half-baked feature thrown in. Granted, some people will dislike exploration no matter what Bioware does, but with ME1 in hindsight, I think it's possible we could get a much more engaging version.

I LOVED exploring practically empty planets in ME1. It's different from DAI. DAI spread out a million collectibles to excuse space and didn't have interesting side quests. ME1's maps made sense to be empty and deserted, it was atmospheric and when you did find that point of interest it was really mysterious and cool.

Do you REALLY THINK that? I skipped the the Mako mission completley after I tried them the first two planets. I played ME1 four times without those missions.

That's why if they keep it they can improve on it. if you don't add anything new or try anything new how can you get better at that new thing you want to try?

I loved the Mako! And may the Hammerhead burn in the heart of an angry star, and then get swallowed by a black hole just so I'm absolutely sure I'll never see it again.

This kind of thinking is why a lot of things in the series were removed (like the mako), instead of being improved on ME2 & ME3. Bioware messed up with Vehicular exploration and kind of got it right with ME2 DLC so they are bringing it back for ME: Andromeda since it is a larger game and they want to improve on ME1's flaws.

The Mako wasn't the issue in ME1, the monstrous hills and mountains that plagued the planets of ME1 were the issue. Those things were gone in Mass Effect 2 and 3, and then they came back in Inquisition with a vengeance. When the game was designed around the Mako, I thought it worked pretty well. It was kinda rocky in Therum, but otherwise I thought it had potential.

I liked the Mako, I just wish the planets in ME1 had more to them. I am hoping there will be more we can do with the mako in ME:A and that the planets we explore will have more too them. I mean let there be caves, forests, more animals, more then collectibles and fetch quests. I want each planet to mean something significant. Hey maybe some banter that pertains only to that planet?

Yeah it was pretty bad in ME1.

It would have been better if they had consolidated the exploration and sidequests around the quest areas you already had a reason to be at instead of spreading it paper thin across dozens of sandboxes segregated from the meat and potatoes story content.

DA:I would also have come off better if they hadn't again isolated the story and companion content from the world where you explore.

I have high hopes that they can make the Mako interesting this time around. Although this is personal opinion based on the fact that I love exploring in video games, I actually enjoyed the Mako missions from ME1 and 2... Add some interesting secrets, some things to discover, and I will be happy.

Mako in ME1 wast one of the best features of that game. It gave us some hint of actually exploring new planets. On contrary I hate  "exploring" universe with "probes" in ME2/3. that was dull and boring

I would love to explore with the Mako, but fight outside of it. I am no good at handling battles inside a vehicle with too overpowered guns, it is usually boring and I am more interested to tactically beat my enemies with the help of my teammates abilities.

The Mako sucked. The time-sink tasks revolving around the mako also sucked. Adding 15 hours of ultra repetitive "gameplay" in a post-Witcher 3 world probably isn't a good idea.

This very much sums up my point as well. The same is true (for me) also for inventory management and loot.

The point is people ask too lightly to remove things from the game instead of asking improvements.

Also I quite welcome the return of the Mako and exploration. I'm done with ME2/3 linear shooting galleries.

I hate the mako. It's not just the bad handling from ME1, its the whole idea of driving around. Really not a point of interest for me at all and i was incredibly glad it, and driving generally, were gone from ME2 & 3 (well, mostly gone in ME2).

All of that said, they have been clear that this time around the mako seems to be far more essential so i'll keep my fingers crossed it'll be done well. Also really hope exploration will tie in with the actual plot more than it does in DAI (don't get me wrong, love DAI but exploration is a bit of time sink without much link at all to the main plot).

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic... And being honest, based on previous games, even if i still hate driving around in the mako the 'main game' should be enough for me to put up with it.

I loved the Mako and also the leveling system of the original Mass Effect and was sad to see both of them go.

Exactly. That's why it's a good idea to rework it.

^ This.

I prefer the Mako over the Hammerhead, the latter making " exploring " in ME2 seem to easy.  They had to bring the Mako back due to the partial exploring in ME:A.

My only pet peeve with the Mako itself is its near invulnerability when operating it across rough terrain and such, breakdown and possible crashes would make it

more challenging imho ( Going further on foot, calling shuttle support etc.) .

The exploring itself I didn't found tedious, it was the same end results when doing so. Perhaps adding a sort of randomizer when starting a new playthrough of ME:A would make it less repetitive to explore planets/moons/asteroids/etc.

Uhm... I agree with the op that the me1 implementation was lacklustre.

IMHO, the planets were relatively boring and the mako a damn chore to drive...

However, there is potential. If the planets are more interesting/diverse? Sign me up...

I could definately go with some regular battlegrounds involving the mako... I wanna slam that thing through a wall some place and surprise enemies in a building. Thinking a little like battlefield with their destructable buildings nowadays. That can be quite fun.

You missed some wonderful content then.  There are absolutely amazing moments out there on the uncharted worlds, and if you didn't visit any of them, you robbed yourself.

The Mako was one of my favorite parts of the game, and I hated that they removed it.  Mass Effect 2 and 3 were poorer experiences for it.  The Mako, and the uncharted worlds gave you a real sense that there was this vast galaxy out there, with wonders and terrors to behold.  2 & 3, despite being longer, meater games, feel like they take place in a much smaller setting.

I fully agree. Exploring with the Mako was glorious and I'm so glad we are getting it back. And yes, Hammerhead was the worst piece of technology that BW could've ever come up with. May it forever lay in pieces under whatever rubble it's buried in.

Can't say I agree with this. The uncharted worlds represented homogenized one-size fits all content, in terms of side quest lay-out. The single base is immediately identifiable on the map, which lets the player make a bee-line for it.

And there was no reason for planet exploration since it amounted to salarian medallions, minerals, and yet more inventory.
