I know there will never be a mod to replace all spiders in the game, outside of the cutscene ones. Like the Fade. *shudder*

Failing that, I am asking the people that have played this game completely. Where all are spiders guaranteed to be located? I know there is a cave on the coast. There is a cave in the desert zone (I forget the name). It is much better to know locations, that way I can sorta assuage my arachnophobia by being able to mentally prepare myself for them.

There are too many to list individually.

Spiders are in the Hinterlands, the Forbidden Oasis, the Hissing Wastes, the Western Approach, Crestwood, the Storm Coast, the Emerald Graves, and both Jaws of Hakkon and the Descent.

Some are special events, while others are random encounters that you will find in various regions.

Spiders are everywhere, and it's very difficult to avoid contact with them anywhere in the game. There's also certain loot and recipes that are only gained by defeating really big ones, completely unavoidable if you want that stuff.

If you stay out of caves you'll generally be ok but then you get to the fade...

Fortunately, in the only game I have so far, I am past that part. And yeah, *shudder*.

But, the lack of model replacement mods for this game has made me play a style not my first choice. I always go full melee in these games. Had to go archer rogue for this one.

Thanks for the replies. It may just be impossible for me to finish this game. Which is a shame.

But you got past the fade and that's by far the worst part :(

Hissing Wastes is full of them. They're very fast and quiet, so you never know when one's going to scuttle up on you ...

Avoid the Hissing Wastes. As someone said, there are spiders everywhere there, and they are quiet and sneak up on you and it is not awesome. Several spiders like to hang out at

Honestly, just be prepared for spiders at any time, anywhere. I made the mistake of playing a 2H character. So, my character goes into a never-ending Whirlwind, hoping to either kill All The Spiders or at least keep them away so the rest of the party can kill All The Spiders. We won't talk about the embarrassing yelps and shouts I've let out whenever I got surprised by a spider (or ten). They're undignified and (often) loud.

Good luck, and the Maker be with you.

A Fellow Arachnophobe

If you play JOH one quest specifically has you kill a HUGE one, so if you do a quest where you need to get stuff from fade-touched creatures, be careful!

Oh and the Emerald Graves one can be found if you read a message about someone meeting someone. THAT one is as bad as Snowball!

I know what you mean by being "mentally prepared". Going into the dark, narrow caves on the Storm Coast was absolutely nerve-wracking because I have both arachnophobia and claustrophobia. It involved a lot of angry swearing and psyching myself up. And staring fixedly at the hotbar. And even more angry swearing when the camera inevitably wonked out and decided to hug a spider up close and personal ... several times. I played a sword & board champion, so I had to get used to the spiders as much as possible, but "fun" is something else.

I think that those caves, and a few "ambushes" in similar tight spots in Crestwood, are the worst places in the game, arachnophobia-wise, partly because it's hard to see them coming and you're never sure when the camera will spider-hug. Out in the open on the surface, this is much less of an issue.

There are no spiders in Emprise du Lion, in the Fallow Mire or on the Exalted Plains. There is one fast-respawning giant spider in the NE Hinterlands, near the entrance to the canyon. There is one in the Emerald Graves that spawns as a result of examining a picnic site. Everywhere else, better keep your guard up, especially in caves.

There is a mod, that makes spiders invisible: http://www.nexusmods...tion/mods/960/?

Of course, it is only usable for PC, so I hope, it helps.

I don't have arachnophobia, but I really hate the spiders in all DA games (have no problem in other games, not even with big ones). I don't know why, but I accepted it and use spider replacers in DAO and DA2. So far, the mod works fine, you see the red rings and the health bar, you hear the sounds (which can be bad for a real arachnophobiac, I know) and they toss their web, but you wont see them. I finished the caves at the Stormcoast and it really helped. I hate, that spiders in DA overpower you, which shows them in a really creepy angle - I guess, that is my main issue. I don't like it with other creatures too, but the spiders use that feat more often imo.

There was a scene with my elven inquisitor, when the party jumped up to an cave entrance, but due to a bug, Blackwall, Varric and Bull got stucked midway and my little mage was standing alone in front of that cave. And of course three of four spiders stormed right at me and I got overwhelmed. I survived, thanks to wall of ice and wall of fire (those are btw really cool, if you want to keep the spiders away from your character), but in that case, I was really glad, I didn't see three spiders crawling over me. To not frigthen anyone further: that situation was my fault, if I had stayed away from the entrance, they would have stayed inside, but I had to look in there, while my party was halfway down the hill.
