[Deadly dwarf]

I looted the body of the dead mage and got the "strange stone."  What do I do now to activate the puzzle?  I click on the stones and inspect the "strange stone" but nothing happens?

You find a stone on the body, and there should be a missing stone in the puzzle. Activating the place of the missing stone will place it in the stone ring.

 

"The goal of the puzzle is to connect every stone with one continuous line of fire (i.e. connect-the-dots), starting and ending at the original stone used to start the puzzle. You do not need to make a complete circle of fire but you can only use each stone once."

Thanks.  When you come upon the puzzle, there are no visuals clues as to where the missing stone is, you have the scroll the cursor over the various points until it tells you "missing stone."

When I first came upon this puzzle, I thought I had to "draw" there some symbol displayed somewhere in the forest... I was running around the area for about a quarter of an hour, before trying to just link all points.

No, if I'm not mistaken (I last played Awakening last summer), it is clearly visible where the place of the missing piece in the ring is.

I just replayed this and can confirm it's really easy to find the missing stone spot.
