When you get enough Cunning, you'll also see a dramatic improvement on your damage. When every hit is a Critical Hit, it makes the game much easier...
better save up on those critical hit damage bonus leathers now.

When you look for advantage, you find addiction.
You end being caught up in the repetitive cycle of 'must get another promote before bed...'
and it goes on and on and on and on and on and on

I don't expect to get addicted, because I hate doing it. Seriously Bioware, it would be nice if I could build my characters and play them without this being mandatory. The reason I asked is because I have a friend who's constantly irritating me about doing it, but he had a misunderstanding about how it works himself so I wanted to straighten things out.

Promoting your characters is playing the way the developer's intended.

if you dont promote you will never and I mean never be able to leave Routine/Threatening
with out being carried
I hate feeling like I was carried
you may acquire cool little banners from levels you didnt earn and maybe you can show em with pride
I also really enjoy building the character each time and seeing what helps most
at first the stats didnt seem to matter but after a dozen or so promotes making it to the end is a little more fun and exciting and soon you start carrying not be carried
and running the level 1 with your buds and keeping up becomes fun and when they all move up to the next level be that peri/nm/hb you move up too and dont get left behind
if you dont promote you will be left behind
I am a warrior at heart and love constitution my motto is be the last standing
my buddy is a killer he says kill it faster and it can't kill me
I am highest in constitution and can face tank most bosses till NM/HB I can kill but its not my speciality
he is highest in cunning and wounds them w/o mercy while I stand in their face and taunt them but he cant allow himself to get cornered for too long and I can't stand alone for too long
we make a good team even though we chose very different paths and this makes it fun
w/o the promotes we would be the same and that would be ....... yawn
boring

Let's just say we want more xp from perilous matches
Perhaps not 6 FC matches but 4 on perilous from 1 to 20

So many words...

There is more exp on Perilous, it's just hard capped (at the moment and for the foreseeable future)
4 Perilous games to get 1-20 would be ridiculous. Sorry do not see this happening ever.

The more you promote, the faster you will be able to promote.
What class you choose will affect how fast you promote ie. DPS and combos killing faster
I cannot tell you how much "time" I think because promoting is already pretty fast.

Hmm then tell how much time you think should be spent for 1 promotion?
as long as it takes

Well I can tell you that usually I spent 1h 20m on 1 promotion regardless of class with high-end equip and 30/30/80 promotions playing with good players(without dying I mean)
I think that's about the average speed to promote, yeah.
