Hi, sorry to bother you with thousand threads but... I've just finished my first complete run with my qunari mage and can't seem to make up my mind. But now, here I am: 2H dwarf. I still don't know whether he will be a noble or a savage one (considering I come from Karta...mmhh) and therefore, I need one last help from you fellows, deciding how to build it, which weapon to go for, and which fellows to bring along. I'd like the whirlwind build... very savage... but unless I can build something very "wild" i wouldn't want to go reaver... maybe champion.

Well..that said...let's hear you, you surely know more than I do about it..:)

Thanks again!

Early game I would probably follow the advice in Matth's PreSkyhold Builds thread since it worked pretty well the last time I ran 2H.  Basically you will get a lot of mileage out of knockdowns and stuns early.  Since you aren't really a tank, and aren't quite DPS, I would personally run Cassandra (or Blackwall as tank), plus an archer (dps) and a mage (support).  Solas is an obvious choice for support, and Sera is slightly better than Varric early if you find a bow that is superior to Bianca.

Later I would probably pick Champion as the spec.  By that time you might be able to assume the tanking responsibilities and switch out Cass for another DPS character.

I was worried about the post 1.10 champion... Someone says it has been wrecked.. The fortress would not be able to sustain you now... If someone of you has tried it, can you confirm or deny? As for solas, I know he's an optimal support Mage, but I've always had him in my previous run so what happens if I take viv or Dorian? And finally.. What about whirlwind? Is it viable anyway as a champion?

P.s. There's a slight lore issue with a dwarf champion... He starts as a lyrium smuggler, how in the world will he become some sort of "paladin" ??

Yeah, it is ruined as in it isn't as easy to solo the game with it apparently.

If you grab Flow of Battle in the 2H tree, and buff your critical chance, you should still be able to get decent cooldowns.  As for To The Death, I don't think that is a huge deal for a regular run either.

You can make any of the companion mages a support mage.  Vivienne has a few better passives for her barriers, so she might be a little better than Dorian as a barrier bot.  I don't like Whirlwind, but there appears to be a (likely unintended) interaction with the DOT of Earthshaking Strike.  If you taunt enemies with War Cry or comparable and get surrounded it has its place, and you can hit all the legs of a dragon.

As for lore, Templar seems to fit worse than a Champion IMO.  Champion isn't about being a paladin as much as it is being the best warrior for whatever faction, inspiring allies.

I wouldn't worry too much about the nerf to the Champion skills, they still have the best damaging skill in the game (To the Death), the best defensive skill in the game (Walking Fortress), and the two best defensive passives in the game (Adamant and Unyielding).

If you pick Champion, you are going to be outperform all the content this game currently has to offer in every area, and Nightmare will feel like casual, whether you're solo or in a Party, it won't matter.

If you want to pick based on Dwarven Lore, none of the specializations really fit at all. If you're not too concerned with raw performance, you can just opt out of specializations. As a bouncer from the Carta, you're your own kind of specialization which isn't featured in this game, either a Pragmatic Fighter or a Berserker. You can reproduce it with talents from the basic trees though, and you can definitely beat the game that way.

It will also help distinguish your character even more from your warrior companions.

Actually Champion spec is racial agnostic imo, and fits any race. The other two specs is abit more of a stretch to fit in with the lore i agree. However the Inquisitor is abit of a rare animal to start with so why not a reaver or templar?

Mmm... I don't know if I want to live without spec... It's surely possible, I agree.. I would like to see it as the best cutthroat of the Karta, so a champion would do it in that sense... For this same lore reason I was going to go Rogue, but i find it too annoying... I dunno... If there was a crossbow, I'd had done it no prob..
