(I've been reading around a bit: the Andromeda forum, apparently, is subject to both far too many AND hardly any at all, romance topic threads. It seems to me that both of these statements are an indication that the Andromeda forum is clearly in need of another. Let the fun commence.)

Salarian romance for Mass Effect Andromeda: make it happen Bioware!

By 'romance', I don't mean kissing and a sex scene. The Salarian sex drive isn't hormone-based, and as much as I love Salarians, I'd be really annoyed if they made a smutty Salarian romance. That doesn't mean a Salarian couldn't be romanceable though.

Yes, Salarians are asexual... but there are asexual humans too, and there's such a thing as asexual relationships in human culture. Why couldn't such a relationship be possible with a Salarian companion? You don't have to have sex with someone to love them, and contrary to popular belief, not everyone who enjoys Bioware's romances does it for the sex part (not to say there's anything wrong with doing it for the sex part ;P just that it isn't a necessary component for every romance to work). To say that a Salarian isn't capable of loving someone because they don't feel attraction is... a little bit ignorant, isn't it?

Romances aren't going anywhere any time soon, and Bioware is slowly becoming more inclusive when it comes to romanceable companions: Pansexual, Homosexual, etc.. An asexual romance is just as meaningful and relevant as a sexual one. I can't say how many people would be interested, but I think a Salarian would be worth considering as a possible romance option.

SERIOUSLY THOUGH, WHO DOESN'T WANT TO ROMANCE THIS?

TELL ME YOU DON'T WANT TO ROMANCE THIS

...Now, I myself have never posted a topic for discussion here before, but I've come to understand that Andromeda threads are basically where people post suggestions for others to yell 'NO!' at. So, come forth ye cries of 'nay!'. Or ignore me, that works too.

Well, credit where it's due, this was much more well thought out than I assumed it would be.

Well we've seen some evidence that salarians can have attractions to others and be in romantic relationships. The Salarian shopping for a gift for his wife while him and his daughter are out together comes to mind, I also recall an asari mentioning she had a salarain father so didn't get to know him very well. (Both of these were in ME2) So having one in an non sexual romance wouldn't be far fetched at all, imo of course.

Edit: Removed pics to stop harassment from someone who is angry over "ridiculously proportioned" salarians. And so I don't get reported and  banned!

Hmm the color scheme on that NSFW one is actually quite nice. Would like to see more colors somewhat like that if Salarians are going to be in ME:A. Then again most of the Salarians I have seen have nice colors regardless. Pardon my babbling.

Well I still believe Jack's romance (the paragon one) and that one although not asexual was not a smutty thing nor it had sex.

There's precedence with Sebastian's romance in DA2 but that guy sucked krogan's quad, I guess that for a salarian romance to work, there would be need for them to be interesting witty guys like Mordin instead of self-righteous whiners like Sebastian.

It's not about the sex scene, but it's about headcanon, and my characters just wouldn't be able to be with an asexual person. I'm fine with fade to black as with SWTOR, but I want to know that there is a happily ever after for my character, and an asexual character would take away from what the story I want to tell for my protagonist. This is why I don't want one. If they have extra resources, they could have them as extra LIs, but only after the core romances have been covered first.

I'd be cool with an asexual romance with salarians. Tbh, that's how I hoped Tali's would play out. I think it would be interesting, especially since it's one of the few relationships where the human protag would definitely outlive their partner (via old age). We already saw the opposite (with Liara), though I don't think it was discussed much.

There are many asexuals who have sex with their partner for a variety of reasons, like for example to satisfy their partner, so I don't see how your headcanon would be ruined.

As I said, I want it to be clear that they have sex, even when it's not shown. Plus, if it's such a chore to have sex, then I don't want anything to do with it. I've had personal experience with these kinds of sex where both or not all partners are not into it, and it's not fun. As I stated, I don't mind them being in the game, but don't make it part of the core romance, make it an extra romance.

Romance is more than just sex, and yes a human falling for a salarian is okay imo. As long as both races are sapient, I don't see why love could not happen. We saw that in the original trilogy between the poetry spouting Krogan and the asari. In the end I thought their little romance was cute. Too bad what happened to him in the third game.

I always thought that the incompatibility of physical intimacy between aliens could be an excellent way for the writers to explore what romance and intimacy mean to different people.

I don't know if the current crop of writers have that kind maturity.  We shall see.

I'm game, but only if he's wearing these:

Spoiler

Cause they are lizards...They have lizard's biology....would you bed a lizard?

lol I (Shepard) bedded a dinosaur bird with a cricket cat face, so I don't see why not. You know, I can imagine a similar conversation going down with a turian and his dad:

son: Dad? I...I love a human.

father: Son, that's just WRONG.

son: Why?

father: Because, son, they are monkeys...they have monkey's biology....would you bed a monkey?

...I still can't tell if your post is a joke or not, so I'm just going to respond as though you were serious.

A ) Salarians are amphibians, lizards are reptiles.

B ) There prooobably wouldn't be any 'bedding' involved, as Salarians are asexual.
