I am wondering about stealing. When i try i get a successful or not successful message but no indication of what i have stolen. So how do i find out what exactly i have stolen.

For items, checking inventory and sorting by 'newest' works, unless the item was added to an existing stack. *grumble*

 

On PC, there is a very useful mod which adds to the success message some floaty text detailing the items or coin stolen -> Nukenin's Stealing Fix. (I also recommend the similar fix, linked from that page, for viewing Dog's found items.)
