Right, I never had the heart to do it, but in my current playthrough, I had huge disapproval from Cassandra and Vivienne.
Cassandra got mean drunk, we got into an argument, and I showed her the door. And she was like "baaaaah I don't need you, I can finish things on my own blah blah blah". Thing is, she never left. I assume it's because she's vital later in game.
Vivienne on the other hand.. As I said, I had huge disapproval from her too, but I never got the option to kick her out. I still haven't completed her quest, Snowy White heart or whatever it's called, but as far as I know, that shouldn't matter. I don't like having you here, get out, simple as that.
I don't know about the other party members, I haven't tried to kick anyone else out, just the 2 of them. So go ahead guys, tell me what's up, and feel free to share your "mean landlord" experience ![]()
P.S. I don't hate Cass or Viv, actually I love them. It's just that in this playthrough, I'm playing "Anders" type of mage, you know, "Free mages and Andraste to hell", so that really contradicts with Cass and Viv.
Can you kick companions out ?

If I'm not mistaken, you can kick out anyone from the Inquistion, except Cassandra, Solas and Varric. The rest of the companions (the ones who you must recurit ony our own) are not essential in any way.

I don't think you can actually kick them out, but you don't need to recruit them. Sera's the only one you can kick out at any time.If I'm not mistaken, you can kick out anyone from the Inquistion, except Cassandra, Solas and Varric. Some of them, like Blackwall will also leave if their approval gets too low.

Cassandra, Solas, and Varric are mandatory no matter what.
Sera can be kicked out at any time.
Dorian, Blackwall, and Cole will bail on you if their approval gets too low. (Sera will as well.)
Iron Bull and Vivienne are optional, but once you let them in, they'll never leave no matter how rough it gets between you and them.
So, no, there's nothing you can do to get rid of Cassandra or Vivienne, and Sera is the only companion you can truly "kick."

He start to insult you if you accept the grey wardens in the inquisition, he deserves more than a kick.

Damn right. It's actually really therapeutic.

Dorian will leave after the Inquisitor punches him
I've told Sera to get lost
I told Blackwall to take a hike after exiling the wardens

That is because he frowns upon people taking a huge risk and dealing with the aftermath properly.

I told Blackwall to take a hike after exiling the wardens
I'm surprised he wouldn't admit his lie at that point (in case he has huge approval, of course)

I really must try this. I always want my companions to like me but in truth I need to start being truer to my Inquisitor and tell these guys just what I think of them. I have left Blackwall in prison but that is the worse I have done so far.

Punching Dorian is satisfying, mostly for getting me involved in his pathetic after-school-special of a quest

Blackwall genuinely believes in his interpretation of what Grey Wardens are. That's what made him, uh, turn his life around in the first place. He wouldn't follow someone conflicting with those ideals.

From what I've gathered: the only two you can directly kick out are Sera and Blackwall. However, Blackwall, Dorian and Cole can all leave if you tank their approval on their own (I've never seen Sera do it, though everytime I try to tank her I inevitably help someone and suddenly she likes me again: maybe she will if you push her?). Cole is actually, in my opinion the easiest to make leave- avoid doing helpful missions (IE, go for closing rifts and claiming places and killing people more then helping NPCs) even at the start before you recruit him, go with the Mage's and conscript them (in which basically his first conversation will be 'I don't like what we're doing, we're not helping people'), put anyone who comes to you for trial in prison, then go kill off Celene or ally with the Grey Warden's. That should be enough for him to stomp off.
As for the other's, there is no way Solas will leave without getting his orb (and he'll smack talk if you punch him about how the Inquisition needs his 'expertese' and can't get rid of him), Cass is too dedicated to the cause to walk away even if she hates you and likely feels obligated as she was a founding member, and Varric is utterly neccessary for the middle Hawke plot (also, he may still think he's a prisoner of the Inquisition- Cass will tell him he's free to go in a banter, but it's usually a pretty late one).
I am guessing Viv won't leave because she's near power and knows it (and after the Divine thing comes out, is definitely doing some angling) and Iron Bull made a contract and he's not going to risk the reputation of his group(/or if you kill his group, he's not going to disobey the Qun that want him right there).
(And, more in game, if she's there the game wants to keep Viv for the Divine Election- what if you told her you'd support her then kicked her out?, could get confusing, and from the looks of it, they wanted Iron Bull here for the last DLC. Dun dun...)

The others I don't mind. Still in the process of actually finishing the game.

Beautifully broken down ![]()
So in a way, companions aren't stuck with a jerk Inquisitor, Inquisitor is stuck with them.
