That's just a poor view of him mostly from the Dalish and those he angered. The devs said they made sure people saw his caring side, his compassion and love for things because they wanted us to see him as Solas not Fen'Harel. As he said, Solas came first. Fen'Harel is a title given to him to cause fear.

If anyone is fooling us, I would say it's Mythal.

You could be right. Why did Bioware make it a point to show us his caring side though? If we never saw that side of him why would we even question what should be done with him. This is where I am coming from. Maybe I am over thinking it but Bioware may be setting us up........

I think we are meant to see the truth and decide it for ourselves. We thought Fen'Harel was an evil God who tricked people and Mythal was a wonderful Goddess filled with love, yet what do we get now? Mythal claiming she will have vengeance and Solas wanting to help those suffering because of his mistake.

Show his caring side is to reveal how power corrupts even the best. He cares too much which compels him to play god.

This is the "Gray Area" i am talking about. Bioware is setting it up so that whatever decision we make is going to have repercussions.

But they suffered because they were taught to be reliant on false gods.

Yes power corrupts...even the best. This is why I chose to disband the inquisition.

Without his "caring" side, he would just be another evil villain bend on world destruction and the resurrection of his own, "superior" civilization.

The way it is now we will have people that take is side, people who vehemently oppose him on principle and those who see where he is coming from, the destruction and/or greatness his plan could bring and still have to chose a side.

Looking at the rather heated discussions that are already going on I think BioWare succeded in creating a villain who generates and will generate a Loghain like feedback.

That's where his caring too much side comes in. He shouldn't have felt that way, but seeing the world cut off from the Fade is killing him and he wants to bring back the beauty he saw and share it with those who survive the change. He also detested slavery and couldn't stand how the Gods used their power for personal gain. If he had a steel heart he would have likely been unstoppable.

Good point like some Chinese think Mao Zedong was a great leader. They get five stars for this villain.

Maybe I need to try to find another video of a non-romance, high-approval but confrontational (without trying to attack) version of the talk and hope it's not bugged ...

Hmm, this is what I had. Pretty sure he conceded the people point but that he regrets that he must still follow through regardless. Might have to go back and remind myself what he says exactly... It just seemed like he was trying his hardest to ignore his feelings and convince himself there was no choice. You do get some signs of inner conflict with high approval though.

Mythal? That woman was a lot more straight with us than Solas ever was. For God's sake, she gave us the key to whacking Corypheus.

That's why I don't trust her. She is too helpful, always tucking pieces of herself away, tricked Morrigan into having an OG baby she extracted the soul of for herself, giving cryptic replies, talking about the world changing and falling into the abyss as vengeance strikes down. Solas is basically her mouthpiece.

So...you'd rather her oppose us?

Solas helped us against Corypheus as well, so I don't think that negates the possibility of having an ulterior motive. Mythal does want her revenge. It's not too big of a stretch to think that she's manipulating the world like chess pieces so she can get it. I don't necessarily think she wants the world destroyed, though. It could be that she's planning it so she can have her revenge while still making sure things turn out alright. Like Dumbledore does.

No that would ruin the surprise if she becomes the ultimate baddie and Solas was doing what she wanted all along without knowing it, and her murder was intentional and she planned it or let it happen, so she would start this process of change.

Oh, I know she wants her revenge, that's for sure. Sounds like she wants to annihilate the Evanuris for what they did to her. But even for all her manipulations, she struck me as far more sincere than Solas. Her endgame is her revenge, but not the destruction of the world. At the very least, she seems like she doesn't want to return the world to how it was, as evidenced by her words to Morrigan about preserving the powers that were. She is a "shadow lingering in the sun". A shadow that will fade when her revenge is complete.

She wants to kill her lover no doubt (Sun ref). I think she paid more attention to Solas and trusted him more and her husband killed her out of jealously, but she knew this would happen and let it to start the change. Interestingly enough this is like Andraste's story and I wonder how much of it might actually be Mythal's?

'Shadow lingering in the sun'? Does that come from the game?

Yeah. It's with Kieran in the Fade, with Morrigan. One of my all time favorite lines from Flemeth.

I just thought of something. If Elgar'nan was the Eldest of the Sun, could the Sun have caused her death?

Spoiler

That image was taken by someone in another thread. Solas painted this in Trespasser it seems.

I can totally see Fen'Harel being Mythal's pet/guard dog.  That he is still her slave (emotionally) does not occur to him, and does provide a way to redeem him.

I think Morrigan, being Mythal's new receptacle, will be the new villain.  They have been setting this up since DAO.

Great minds think alike!

In the Temple of Mythal we see his statue there too. He guarded her all the time.
