How could anyone have possibly seen this coming, except for the guys at BioWare who refused to let people know beforehand that this new game they're buying will likely not get the DLC content?

They should give everybody who bought Dragon Age on last gen a free digital download code to be used on any of the 3 platforms that you can finish the game on.  They won't because of the reason it was released on last gen in the first place, greedy EA executives.  The bane of video games, once they die off, the world will be a far better place.

You do realize that there are these things called unforseen events that make it so people can't buy. For instance, a poster wrote that he did save money to buy a next-gen console but emergency cancer treatment meant he had to spend that money for his treatment and as a result had to get the last-gen version seeing as how Bioware NEVER said that dlc or patch support would ever be dropped beforehand, and they advertised that apart from graphics and less npcs, the last-gen versions would be the same as the next-gen versions. They even released jaws and avvar spoils on last-gen so there was ZERO indication that last-gen support would be magically dropped?

Why does everyone here assume that everyone who bought the game on last-gen just didn't want to buy a next-gen console or could easily save money like nothing? Have any of you heard of empathy.

Empathy is great, I'd say they have empathy by releasing next gen games on the older systems at all. Allowing people who have not bought the new systems a chance to play the games. You can't expect that the old systems are going to be able to handle all new games and new content though. It's a very poor attitude even if I can empathize with your situation.

Oh in your world of black and white and the answer that fits your anger must be right. You're right though - they should stop making any games for the old consoles the second a new console launches - then you won't be disappointed down the road when your 10 year old system magically can't support new gen content. I mean - why didn't someone send you a personal hand written letter that technology works this way.

Anger?  No, not at all.  I play on PC.  Don't assume emotion through written words.

The fact still remains, BioWare released the first DLC on last gen, and after that, decided to screw over the people on those systems.  Because they got their sales that they shouldn't have got in the first place because the last gen version shouldn't have every existed, and now anyone who wants to continue the story now has to rebuy the game, which IIRC is still at full price because....reasons.

To be fair,
I don't blame BW,
EA is shady and I'd bet that they're behind it.
Not that it rectifies the situation.
But,
With the release of a new console,
Comes the dropping of support for the old one.
As I said,
I agree with you, it is unfair.
But unfortunately,
It isn't going to be corrected.

Believe me I know all about unforeseen circumstances. We all have responsibilities. We all have bills. It's just like any other hobby. If I want a newer Jeep Wrangler, I'd have to sell my old wrangler. Or my motorcycles or my classic cars, Et cetera.

Which is why I sold my old system to fund the new one.
And then I was hosed having to re-buy games.
It sucks being shafted.
Sony has no intention of correcting it, as unfair as it was. (Figure $60 per game X2 for 4 titles, that's 8x$60=$480 technically)

And EA doesn't give 2 ***** about gamers.
Heck,
If I was wealthy (or reduced my hobbies or payed off a few more things) I'd help the guy out myself. (Easy to say I know, but if ya knew me (which ya don't, but if ya did) I'm being genuine when I say that.)
But that's where it stands and many here can feel for you.

I know it sucks OP but if it's any consolation, by what I read the DLC isn't very long, and pretty linear. You can probably watch the whole thing on Youtube.

Also check out for favourite gaming news more often mate...this was announced months ago. Most of your fellows and supporters still using old gen consoles are already all raged out I'll wager, You'll be hard pressed to find many sympathetic ears now.

I repeat "Publishers and console companies are only out for money"

I'm in no way condoning this, frankly think it's an appalling way to treat paying customers but again, why should they care when they already have your money and have a chance and getting more from you when you rebuy everything.

As for they guy with cancer, my heart goes out to him. A very close friend was diagnosed with Stage 3 Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the beginning of the year, so yeah, I empathise.

Assuming he lives in the US, Thank god he had some money squirreled away where it was much better spent!

Because it's a fact that the last gen versions downgraded the game, stripped features and made the NPC count lower? Bioware didn't want to do that for the dlc and it was clear this was going to happen. Tresspasser would be horrible on the last gen, so much crap would need to be cut just so it does not blow up your system.

Yes last gen sucked, and the fact they released the game on it, hurt the game more than it helped it.

But, Jaws of Hakkon was released on it.  And at no point during that release did they say they're stopping support, it wasn't until just before descent came out that they actually mentioned it.  They knew so far before hand that they were stopping support and said nothing.  That is a decision that even though it doesn't effect me at all, is something I can't defend or support.

It seems like there are many people here with psychic powers who knew that BioWare was not going to continue DLC support even after releasing DLC, but I guess I'm just not as clairvoyant as you guys, my bad.

The expanded version is like 28$ right now.

Not me . The blame for this should fall on BioWare and only BioWare.

Look, it's a ten year old system, it's horribly outdated.

That said, everyone who bought the game should be allowed to play it on however many systems they like. They should not have to repurchase the game. That just doesn't make sense, they already paid to play the game, so let them do that in however many ways they wish.

I think Bioware should NOT have released DAI on last gen consoles at all if they were going to stop the content for them. I suppose they may not have forseen it being troublesome to create DLC for both gens, but they should have thought about it. So yeah it's pretty bad of them, I agree. If I played it on last gen and had that announcement I would have been PISSSSSSED.

They should have given everyone a free copy for if they did get the next gen console. Like ps3 player gets a code to DL it on PSN store on PS4 for when they upgrade. And maybe some one to KEEP your character, I mean Destiny managed to let you cross gen keep your character.

I even heard Mark Darrah didn't even want the game to be on last gen

Good luck convincing Sony and Microsoft to go along with that.

Get use to it .

What if Dlc was no longer available for Mac users or Windows 8 PC users. That kind of fan-boy rage would have been news station worthy .

Dropping last gen support seems to be a general EA policy at the moment.  Battlefield 4's recent patch and the free Night Operations DLC are only partially available on old gen. If I remember correctly, this time the explanation was that the old gen consoles had reached their maximum allowed DLC size for the game.

Then you shrug your shoulders and move on. The world isn't going to end because you don't have that dlc. Earlier posts you demand Bioware offer refused to ps3 and 360 users, Why? You payed for the full Dragon Age game which you got. What is released after your main purchase is optional.

If you badly want to play that New DLC so badly buy a PS4, XBOne, trade in your old gen DAI and buy a used copy. Shocking as it maybe the 360 and PS3 are no longer going to get supported.

No we didn't. We paid full price for half of the game . The rest has been chopped up and is now called DLC.  And btw  I was gifted a PS4 but those things  aren't  cheap . And I like most had to repurchase the  f***ing game again to play the other DLCs.  And starting all over is a freaking chore to do .

Then what are you complaining about, you refuse to buy the game again even second hand. Bioware has stated the DLC won't appear on older consoles, something would have had to have been sacrificed in order to cram them dlc's onto the 360/ps3 editions. Just let it go and move on.
