So how is Trespasser? Is it worth it?

So, could you please explain me what do you like about the game? Because Trespasser was godly for me in everything not only lore and stuff like this.

It would be quicker and easier to list the things I don't like about the game, because I like just about everything.  Unfortunately for me and my enjoyment of Trespasser, the things I do not like include:

1.  Solas, who IMO is far up in the running for most tedious and uninteresting video game character of all time in a contest that includes the two-pixel paddles in Pong, and whose toon is so brutally ugly that it pains me to look at him.

2.  The emphasis on lore, which too often shoves the current characters to the side in favor of telling us all about characters whose heyday was thousands of years ago.  If Bioware wants to make a game about the ancient elves, they should make a game about the ancient elves, and leave my Inquisitor free to deal with current Thedan politics and his attempt to get into the Iron Bull's surprisingly difficult-to-access pants.

3.  Restrictive areas that feel unnecessarily claustrophobic and repetitive.  Every time I had to go to the Crossroads I was like "But I was JUST HERE and it was just as boring last time."

So a lot of people appear to have enjoyed Trespasser, it just wasn't to my tastes.  In a way it doesn't matter, though, because I consider myself well compensated by the expanded upgrades in the main game.

10/10 - very satisfying ending for the Inquisitor and great set-up for the future.

I considered knocking a point for linearity and little party banter, but decided against it.

That may be a bug, because I had plenty of party banter throughout the DLC.

For me it's a 9/10. The point deduction is because some parts of it (especially early cutscenes) feel kind of clunky as if no one had enough time to check them properly. Some things also feel really "gamey" (that you run around alone and then suddenly get to pick your companions and are in armor a second later, the party banter "spots" etc). That's just a small complaint and I think I'm only complaining because the rest is very good. There are a lot of cutscenes, lots of companion interaction, lots of references to the choices you made in the past, and a satisyfying conclusion. Now the game finally feels complete. Since the lackluster endboss of the vanilla game isn't the end anymore but just another step in the story, everything fits together much better. I can't imagine replaying DA:I without doing Trespasser at the end.

I do think that The Descent is better when it comes to atmosphere though - the areas in the Trespasser DLC are somewhat disjointed and repetitive and the story doesn't flow as nicely IMHO.

But what I especially love about the DLC is that it feels like a mini-expansion. It adds a lot of stuff to the base game, I still haven't found everything. As far as I know it's sigils, changed talents, trials and new war table rewards.

All in all I really enjoyed all of DA:I's DLC which is a first for me! :) Previous games (including the ME series) always had at least one piece of DLC which felt meh and not worth the money, but JoH, The Descent and Trespasser were all very much worth it. Thank you Bioware!

But these were not answer to my questions... yet they were. You focused on what you disliked, that's the real answer.
Well if I were to focus on what I dislike I would not even have played Trespasser since I am disgusted by the main game and it's core mechanics are there in Trespasser too... but I focused on what I liked.
On the other hand, since you are exactly the opposite of me I understand how you feel, you feel like I feel playing the main game. I feel sorry for anyone who feels that way, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies. So Trespasser became the reason for me to like Inquisition and for you to dislike. Since there is no middle ground here, I hope you get more frustrated in the next games, nothing personal, it is just that it is impossible to please us both.

This thread is proving very useful. I'm still waiting for Trespaser to be patched before I buy it, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to not just fire up my XB1 and throw money at my TV

Play it then play it again later. I will only make my true playthroughs after game is "final" meaning, receives the next patch (I believe to be the last), but I already finished Trespasser twice with characters that I'm going to delete later, that I used to know the game, get schematics, complete all achievements, etc
In short, do it for the fun, later you do it seriously

Trespasser was excellent, definitely a return to strong story content over what's at times been too much of an exploration focus.
Only minor quibbles I had were over the nature of some of the final choices the inquisitor got to make or not make.
Post game dlc is something I've been hankering after for a while & it's great to see it implemented well.

9/10. I deduct a point because one area was very buggy for me and it crashed several times while I was exploring it.

Me too. I hope we see more of it in the future. Hopefully it wasn't super-hard to code.

8 / 10 - pretty darn good.

Pros:

- gives a satisfying conclusion to pretty much each of your companions and your romance

- an avalanche of lore related to the old elves and their gods (I found it interesting despite finding the DA elves pretty unlikeable)

- a relatively realistic approach to the possible fates of an independent paramilitary organisation like the Inquisition

- manages the balancing act between providing closure and setting up a sequel pretty well

- a lot of companion interaction

- hilarious end credits voice-over from Cassandra

- new interesting equipment with unusual properties...

Cons:

- ... but not much time to use it since this is the end, after all

- occasionally glitchy

- some annoying hit point sponges among your enemies

- might give you the urge to headbutt a certain rather popular character from DAO

This isn't really a spoiler, just a mechanics detail.

But Trespasser apparently adds a second upgrade to every ability in the game, but I think it's mutually exclusive.

For example,

Ice Mine and Fire Mine now both have an upgrade that turns that ability into the same glyph ability enemies use where you toss out several in front of you as opposed to one targeted one.

So that might be relevant to your question.

Actually, i loaded up one of my other characters and they have all new the upgrades. So either my game is bugged or you just need to have purchased the trespasser dlc? :P

The alternate upgrades apply to all your characters.

I had the banter bug or whatever it was in the main game. In trespasser, they talk a lot while I'm walking. It's SO much better.

But my game keeps hanging and I have to end it without saving. Is this a known thing?

I tend to rate things by how much emotion they invoke.  For good.  And Tresspassers invoked the most emotion out of me of anything I have ever consumed from an entertainment perspective.  Take from that what you will.

What do you mean - if it's worth it? It's the end-game mission, real end-game, with answers and everything. So, unless you really love cliff-hangers it's a must-have DLC.

Having finished it just now I have to say it was THE best DLC in all of the DA games. Amazing. 9.5/10

Sooooooooo, glad to hear that for most of you Trespasser was worth (Solas fan!) I'm just working through the DLC now, just finished JoH and wanted to ask when in your view is it best to play Descent, after or before you end the main game? And why?

I have it set as a midgame mission, because I feel like post-Act 1 really should have been longer. In the vanilla version, the story was already around 45% complete by then. I set Descent prior to the Arbor Wilds to present a nice gig where there are now three main missions before Act 3 (which is basically WPHW/finale). And now with Trespasser the third act is also more satisfying. :D

Thank you! I'll do it now then, then re-finish the game and on to Trespasser. Yay!
