Walking Softly and Even Ground are great. I turn the others on occasionally, and I have the focus one on permanently, but those two trials are so cool.

It's really the little things, like elite red templar abominations exploding after dying, or watching skywatcher jump through the air like a majestic painted whale.

I have the "Defeat 20 promoted enemies" and "Trial of the Mage" unlocked. Trial of the Mage was kind of annoying, but Mana Surge, Bees and Upgraded Horn of Valor saw me through it.

If you're unsure if you can do it, just use the golden nug and breeze through the game with op schematics. It will probably take the challenge out of it, but if you just want the achievements, I recommend doing that.

What do these "special shipments" mean? Is it something you get when you travel back to Undercroft in Skyhold? If so, when do you get them, how many trials are needed? Why does Bioware add features and never explain anything!?

I dont know how it works exactly but i got some shipments i could pick up in a chest in the house where you wake up your first time in haven. I got a belt that seems to double the dmg on frostspells at the cost of health anytime you cast them. And i got a purple dagger that has a chance tocause bleeding on hit.

It does require purchasing the DLC.

I'm hoping that is not going to be true forever. I have the DLC, but it's just so weird that fundamental game mechanics, like toggled upgrades, are only available through for-pay DLC. We essentially have two completely different games now. Three if you count PS3/XBox360 being left behind.

Without the DLC, Patch 10 is kind of broken/buggy skill-wise. The nerfs that presumably were done to balance out the new upgrades are in place, but the upgrades are not.

I think there is a chance that the next Patch will enable at least the toggled upgrades and Trials for non-DLC. Then at least the basic game mechanics will be the same across the board.

Thanks.  I was gonna wait on this purchase until I got a playthrough to the point I wanted to do it, but I decided to go ahead and grab it early so I can take advantage of some of these (as well as some of the alternate upgrades, which I'm assuming are tied to the DLC too since I didn't see them when I was looking at my trees).

I don't find it all that weird. It was standard proceedure for expansions back when expansions were a thing - you'd expect some mechanical changes to go with your extra content, and for at least some of them to go back into the main game.

Only thing that seems really wrong to me is when the original versions of the upgrades are only available via patch. That just seems wrong, and I hope that's a bug.

Has anyone gotten any of the achievements for completing these trials yet? I am curious as to how hard it is to get the achievements for them.  I am probably going to start a new game as a sword/shield warrior so I can hopefully survive and get the achievements for them on Hard (nightmare will probably be too difficult for me with the trials on.)

Anyone have any advise for me on braving the trials?

I've gotten Trial of Magician (Travel Light during Hushed Whispers) and Trial of Fool (get to skyhold < lvl 6) so far. I did this on Casual. I would recommend doing at least Trial of Fool on a throwaway play through because you have to skip pretty much everything to reach Skyhold pre lvl 6. It is also somewhat difficult doing In Your Heart Shall Burn underlvled, even on casual, I can only imagine it being nigh impossible in hard.

I think I will do Trial of the Fool on a throw away PT on casual if it is hard to do. Thanks for the advise.

Do you mind sharing the name of the unique shipment you received with the trials on? If I'm not mistaken from what you are saying, we could be getting unique items from trepasser dlc early on in game. Serioulsy, the dlc offers so many awesome unique items that go to waste once it is over. I might be willing to start a new playthrough with all trials always on (except maybe the 1hp healing potion one) to get some of those items fairly early.

Well the dagger is translated to leech. It is a purple dagger with itemlevel 12 that does not have a level requirement. It has a basedmg of 77 (t1 dagger crafted with t1 mats has 55) so its good for my level but surely not endgame-damage. It has a chance to bleed on hit but it doesnt procc very often. Havent seen it going higher than 1 stack of bleed.

The belt is translated to belt of the winter pact. Its description says: frost based abilities are slightly more powerful, but cost a small amount of health. Damage from winters grasp is doubled and the health cost isnt noticeable from my tests.

I got another shipment which gave me 2 diamonds which sold for 3-sixty-something each.

OK I know the winter pact belt is from trespasser dlc so there might be hope that I can get some nice accessories early on. Thx for the info.

Edit, ok the one from the dlc is the purple superb version. I guess the one you get is common or blue version?

If you don't mind my asking, how did you go about gaining power to continue the main quest? I started a throwaway casual for this, but my Inquisitor is already halfway to level 4 and I need to get 10 power for the next quest. Trying to figure out how to get it without gaining much experience. I haven't played DAI since around release, so I don't remember a clear way to get that much power without gaining much EXP.

Maybe try to finish some requisition requests? Just need to gather enough materials.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, just wasn't sure if there was a better way, since I'll gain some experience killing mobs to farm either materials or gold to buy more. I'm probably being a bit too paranoid about gaining too much experience though haha

Don't accept anything but herb and metal requisitions. Do a save before talking to the agent. If they offer some bogus requisition, reload. That's how I got power while minimizing XP. It helps to know where all the metal nodes are on a map, too (complusive miner in first PT).

Ah, that makes a ton of sense. I picked up a tent requisition in the Hinterlands already, but I think I should be fine after that if I take your advice. Thanks for the tip!

I'm too lazy to see if this was posted, but if you have the trials on and get the reward message. Save before opening the "Special Shipments" chest. the reward randomly generates....prepare to reload multiple times to get away from fade-touched and sigils

I assume you have on the trial to gain Xp at half speed

Yes, you have to have it on in order to get the trophy. And as was said before, focus on doing requisitions. If you do In Hushed Whispers, you get two power before you have to spend the 15 so that's two less requisitions to do. Find all the camps in Hinterlands, that's another 5 power. Threnn has an easy requisition as does Mother Giselle. That's 2 more power. You should only have to do about 10 requisitions with all that. I would recommend doing the ore surveys only, there's a cave to the SE of the outskirts camp that has plentiful iron and drakestone to fill one of ore requisitions. The one with iron and onyx is a little more difficult, you have to go to the wolf cave to get onyx.

They got it backwards. You should get special delivery rewards for not using Trials. As compensation for the boring, vanilla, challenge challenged game. ;)

The added challenge of Trials should be enough of a reward in itself.

Just with this ... the Spellbinders and Archers in Hinterlands gave me a royal kicking!!

Had to reload several fights ...
