I'm not sure if this helps anyone but this helped me immensely with the Rub Some Dirt On It Trial... craft armor weapons with as much heal on kill parts. You really only need it active for the Hivernal Dragon battle for the trophy/achievement but you can get some nice items with the trial on throughout the game. Nothing spectacular, I've gotten Sigils, and some of the trespasser accessories like enhanced second wind amulet and even that level 19/20 guard shield.

Have you got any? I got better drops from enemies ...
I got a shield schematic called "The Knight's Second". Hope they put in some new armor schematics too.

@Bigdawg13, I suggest adding [GUIDE] to the front of the title of the OP, to make this thread easier to find when gets pushed off the front page.

Tried this today, So my whole party was killed by a Mage whose Barriers never went down because he kept hitting us with Mind Blast in the 1st area of the Hintherlands....thats embarrassing
Yeah, I bumped into a Warden Spellbinder with that ability while doing Varric's personal quest. I was playing a KE at the time, and her barrier kept refreshing, too. It was a very close fight.

So Fair-Weather Friends is kind of hard. I disbanded the Templars on my current solo nightmare run with all trials on. I can confirm that "Slightly Disapproves" -> "Disapproves" and "Disapproves" -> "Greatly Disapproves".
Also of note, Cole is affected by Rub Some Dirt On It. Even after Envy died, he has a drinking problem.
The XP reduction is largely compensated by the increased XP for killing high level monsters, and doesn't seem to affect Codices and Quests. Trial of the Fools is Hard if you don't go out of your way to complete it, even with half XP.. I'm at level 5.5 right now, I will do In your heart shall burn in my next session, and will most likely fail to reach Skyhold before level 6.

My current Rub Some Dirt on It strategy is to go for broke on DPS. My regen isn't going to outstrip Nightmare enemies' damage (especially with some of the other trials turned on), so it seems more HP-effective to kill them fast before I fail an Evade.

So I managed to solo Nightmare In Your Hearts Shall Burn with friendly fire and all trials on at level 5 on this new warrior, an elf.
It was really hard figuring out the proper way to deal with this quest.
Every enemy was level 8, so the lower limits still apply even with Even Grounds. I had to reload quite a few times. At such a low level, and not being Human for an extra skill-up, I didn't have the luxury of using any OP skill combination; I even had to ditch the offensive upgrade to Combat Roll because every single Venatori and their cousins, grandpas and uncles has blocking moves; I went for the Grappling Chain Boot upgrade to deal with mages and archers, and had to abuse line of sight and AI pathing because those boss-level armored Venatori tanks were dealing insane damage through my heavy armor, shield and guard, and without any attack skill, breaking their Guard was pretty much an exercise in futility.
I kited Fiona deeper into Haven, somehow survived the way back with a million Venatori and an uncomfortably red hue on my health bar, and had enough time to properly position the catapult. I must have reloaded about a dozen times throughout the quest, but eventually made it all work. The entire session took about 2 hours 30 minutes including all the prep time zoning between the Black Emporium and the Crafting Station in Haven. And cost me about 3000 gold in onyx and dragonling scales.
Had I tried to kill all these Venatori or save the villagers, I would have failed the Trial of the Fools; I ended within 300 xp of the target, and got the nice Origin "da-da-ding" as the cutscene rolled into Skyhold. And now I am free. Free to farm, specialize, level up and abuse the hell of this really, really hostile Thedas.

To a reasonable extent or to a ridiculous immortal/invulnerable extent? I mean, are they like fighting dragons, or like fighting Kai Leng (first time) or the Shadow Broker (Hopeless Boss fights)?

Nice. No Bee Grenades? Also, why an elf warrior? RP or for the extra challenge?

I had bees and antivan fires in my hotbar, but I didn't really use them outside of attempts that were later scratched/wiped - they were never THE solution to a problem I had. On my winning attempt I actually almost botched it by trying to throw a fire grenade over a wall, which teleported me from a safe place to a very dangerous one where I had "parked" some enemies. Fortunately I managed to run away. I also threw a couple bee grenades in the open before turning the catapult for the last time, just in case someone would reach me, but no enemy came this time around.
I took Elf because I wanted to see the Solas romance first-hand with Fair-Weathered Friends on - since I never managed to keep him as a friend, I thought this would be a nice challenge. Looking back, I'm not sure it's even possible to solo him, since I won't be able to do his personal quest, haha ![]()
But overall, apart from the prologue and maybe the Crossroads fight, I don't think for warriors the Race matters at all - you're either Qunari or you're not, you either have a customizable helmet or you don't. For instance as Human maybe I could have killed enemies that I skipped (all those elite gladiators and Fiona), but in return I'd likely be level 6 from killing them, and would have failed the low level achievement... ![]()
Bees and Grenades were really important against Envy though, as without them I'd probably still be looking at my reflection in sword and shield form spamming those oneshotting Shield Bash with no cooldown, while Cole would be too busy drinking 1hp potions or lying on the floor to even land a single hit.

Level 8 Hinterlands Bear Bosses were really beefy, but couldn't damage my Nug-powered level 4 warrior in Iron Tier4. I seriously dread the moment when I get caught off-guard without the benefit of such incredibly OP gear for my level.

If you have the Trials toggled on, always have a mage on hand with Dispel.Always.

Sadly i ran into a elite despair demon when you first get the mark. That demon had high spirit damage resistance, that the mark was bloody useless. Took a while before i killed it.

I started the romance with Solas, and came back to the Hinterlands for a quick post-Skyhold test drive. Three enemies, two venatori gladiators, and one elite. This game hates me. Before you ask, Venatori Gladiators are the shield users. They pretty much ignore your T4 armor, they stagger you when you attack them, they charge and knock you down, and when "promoted", if they don't oneshot you through their guard-busting shield bash, they gain a million guard which makes them immune to stagger and knockdown attacks.
Any single one of them is a million times harder than Gurd Harofsen to solo.
In other news, I just had a nice chat with Drunk Cassandra, Varric hates my guts because he thinks I'm leaving too many bodies behind, Dorian is pissed that he had to wait until Skyhold before I asked his name, and Sera was a bit cold. The only one who approves when I yell at her is Vivienne.
This is turning so damn fast into an Assquisitor playthrough, I guess I can say goodbye to my dreams of keeping everyone until Halamshiral.

Yikes. How much questing etc. did you do before getting there? I'd like to try doing the bare minimum amount of questing & power acquisition...think that's doable without having to skip saving the villagers?

OK before I get war horn for such situations my strategy against these guys is 101shield wall block/ shield bash reposte usually. Its slow, but keep facing the enemy. Can you combat roll through them btw? I have never tried that. As I do not have cr on ai characters-I did the Cass seekers as side quest with just Cass and quizzy and controlled Cass @ lvl 9, Cass was tanking like 7 big shield dudes at once while quissy was melting them away from behind.

I focused on camps to unlock the required power instead of requisitions, but I skipped pretty much everything I would usually do already before Champions of the Just, such as meeting Dorian and Alexius, recruiting Iron Bull, unlocking the Forgotten Oasis for obsidian, and completing random quests for agents throughout the Hinterlands.
I was also relatively bad in the way I managed my time in Therinfal, I came back to the hall far more often than I should, which lead to unnecessary fights.
As for saving villagers, like ottffsse says, it's hard enough to survive yourself, especially with friendly fire on.
You can do a non-damaging combat roll through them, but they will turn and hit you faster than you can stand up. Offensive combat rolls will just get you killed. My tactic before those elites earned that new guard property was to grappling chain stun and kite them, using combat roll to sidestep their charging bull. This tactic is now obsolete due to the guard that comes with high boot resistance. oh well, it just means I need to transition my early game into mid game.OK before I get war horn for such situations my strategy against these guys is 101shield wall block/ shield bash reposte usually. What level were you when you started Champions? And I assume you went straight into In Your Heart Shall Burn after, right?
I was 4 and a half when I started Champions, 5 and a half when I started IYHSB. And yeah I did one right after the other.
