Adding another voice to the Ancient Elves vs Everyone.

And I'm Dalish (well, my protags are :D)

And I love the antagonist this time. You were given the chance to get to know him better (ymmv. From utterly hating to completely loving the egghead).
I'd like to headcanon that Solas and my Lavellan share a close mentor-student relationship.
He hates the Dalish most, I think (maybe because they are reminders of his terrible mistake). But overtime he has grown fond of this little insignificant curious backwater elf and against his plans begins to nurture her knowledge and in result making Lavellan a much better person in the end.
In the long run, I cant help but to feel that he gave my Lavellan knowledge and in return she imparts him with a little wisdom and understanding. A little voice that crept under his heart which he terribly tries to sweep under the rug: that the current state of world is worth preserving too.

And I can't get that mental image of him chuckling alone in the dark when people around you started bowing and screaming "Herald of Andraste!" While you're more or less the Herald of Fenharel :D (the anchor was his, he basically let YOU lead the inquisition to skyhold which is also his :D kudos to a poster who brought this up. Now I cannot scrub that tittle out of my brain :D)

Ah well, makes for a better story for me anyway then just : kill evil reapers with bad attitudes, Rrrraagh!!! (I love ME series, it's just that Solas is a more compelling villain)

Sorry for the long post

Solas is basically what Javik would have been if other Protheans survived in stasis to rebuild their empire.

Both are the living leaders of a once extinct race that sees everyone in the present as too primitive to be real people and would gladly wipe everyone out if they could have their civilizations back despite it being just as abusive and flawed as the current ones.

The difference is that Javik by not having this option basically grows to respect and accept the present due to the protagonist's influence whereas Solas by having that option ultimately ignores everything positive you did to prove him wrong.

Solas is a big f***ing idiot who refuses to accept the elves brought their own downfall and instead of supporting modern elves in their plea for a new homeland where they can live free of persecution (something that could even be started by a Dalish Warden), he chooses to bring back the ancient ones that screwed up in the first place even if it kill those currently oppressed.

I have a theory that the elves first became immortal because the Evanur overthrew the Maker, took over the Golden City and channeled it's power to their worshippers in order to prevent their deaths from hastening the return of their predecessor.

Humans and Kossith are descendants of the elves who refused to worship the Evanur and fleed from Thedas to other parts of the world. They refused to sell their souls for immortality but in turn evolved to be far less dependant from magic than the other elves.

Modern elves lack the connection to the Evanur which made the ancient elves immortal, they will gain nothing from losing the Veil unless the angry and twisted gods accept them.

In fact, it doesn't matter if you are human, kossith or elf because what gives you immortality is basically selling your soul and sucking off from the elven gods who are themselves sucking off from the city they took from the Maker.

Dwarves are the ones most screwed because their magic and immortality can only come from selling their souls to the titans who in turn are enemies of both the Evanur and the Maker.

At the end of the day, all Solas plans will accomplish is basically letting the next protagonist tap into the primordial forces of the world to gain the power to defeat him and the other elven gods just as his f*** up in Inquisition gave the protagonist the Mark and almost let Corypheus become as powerful as an Evanur.

Expect the DA4 to have a PC who wields magic in every class and mage class gaining some sort of uber beef up.

I'm not even sure why this is a discussion. What's better about the Ancient Elves? Diddly squat. They were immortal and the world was connected to the spirits, big deal. They were still bastards just like the humans, qunaris, dwarves and normal elves, who apparently acted like Tevinter on steroids and kept each other for slaves. Their connection to the Fade obviously didn't keep them from being just as morally corrupt as all those who live in the separated world. Yes, it's unfortunate that they are gone because I think they were neither better nor worse than the people that populate Thedas today; but they are gone and killing everyone who exists in present Thedas just to bring them back so they can eff it all up again - because humanoid beings inevitably always do - seems an exercise in futility. Whether the population that wrecks Thedas for a couple hundred years is immortal or mortal, it will always succumb to the same problems (greed, lust, pride, and so on). Why enact a world-wide murder campaign if the results will be the same?

Solas isn't doing this for the elves, neither the old nor the new ones. He's doing it for himself. He knows it's wrong, but he's gonna do it anyway because he feels guilty that he screwed it all up the first time around. For Solas to learn, he will have to stand in the ashes of the world twice. Or three times. Or four times. Because this could go on forever. Or do you think the new ancient elves will just accept their benevolent tyrant for the rest of eternity without complaint? Because that's what Solas will have to be, if he wants to keep the new ancient elves from doing what they did the first time around. And then he's just gonna be the thing he hated (not that he isn't already), and eventually another powerful elf mage will rise and drop a new Veil right on his egghead to exile the monstergod Fen'Harel that keeps them under his thumb.

Of course, it's probably not gonna work at all anyway because, well, just take a look at Solas' track record.

Something that's interesting is that as has been brought up before, Solas doesn't see the Dalish as his people. Yet it seems as if he'll use them in order to bring back the ancient elves, while killing them. The epilogue said many of the elves disappeared and we can only assume they went to join him given his allusion to his many agents. Do they know that he plans to kill them too? Or did he conveniently leave that part out?

I was wondering that, too. I suppose they could be a death cult, devoted to bringing back the old even at the cost of themselves. However, Solas could also be ferreting them into a pocket dimension like the eluvian crossroads to "change" them. That conflicts with what he says to the Elfquisitor, though, that he's not saving their people.

However, he's played the Inquisition masterfully as well, so I see no reason to think he couldn't be manipulating them. Especially if his relationship with the Inquisitor is bad, he barely sees the new people of Thedas as functional sentient beings. Why not use them as tools? He didn't hesitate to kill a whole world the last time, he doesn't plan to let it stop him now, so he might as well lie to the elves before he feeds them to the fire, too.

I would have to hear more about it before I could honestly form a real opinion on it.   Right now all he has said is that it would cause chaos.    Well, wars cause chaos.   Almost everything else is speculation at this point.
