I think it's unlikely that BioWare will restrict us to playing a male human mage.

If the crisis is large enough they might appoint any character of any race or class to the position of Archon. Bioware could make it happen and it would be slightly more plausible than another Inquisition-esque agency.

I think Solas will be a subplot that continues into its finale in DA5. I would think he will be a shadow organization faction that indirectly or directly helps the PC against the Qunari, but we don't realize the true identity of the leadership until the end of their help, or possibly not even until the next game or a DLC.

DA4 will focus on Tevinter vs. Qunari aggression. I'm on the fence if Weisshaupt civil war will also feature or if that will be another game. At a glance I don't see how those plots would interact, but we don't have enough information to have a good picture. Especially depending on if the Warden war is purely political or if there is some magical origination (Architect? untainted Old God? Titan?). I could see Tevinter try to annex the Anderfels if they felt they needed more troops in a losing war, perhaps, and get the Wardens involved that way...

I think we will play a human/elven/qunari slave or dwarf representative from the ambassadoria if we're given multiple races again. Perhaps during our escape from the PC's master we come across some vital secret about the Qunari that could turn the tide of the war and become an asset to both sides. I think the Qunari will be the enemy, but perhaps there's a schism between the branches of

the leadership, with one side wanting to focus on magical research like the Viddasala and one side focusing on martial forces.

If we have an origin/prologue, maybe we start on the villa of a magister in eastern Tevinter and have to make our way to Minrathous, where a good chunk of the game takes place.

If DAI shows how the world will progress, both Tevinter and Par Vollen will be weakened by the war and have to adapt quickly to some external threat (Executors) rather than have one side be a clear winner over the other. Perhaps the kossith show up and shake the Qun's teachings and focus the Qunari on defending Thedas from their ancestors rather than trying to conquer Thedas.

For companions, I think Dorian and Maevaris will be involved but as mentors rather than party members.

Harding will be the requisite dwarf companion, hopefully bi love interest. It would be great to have a Kal Sharok dwarf or ambassadoria dwarf as companion (or are all ambassadoria dwarves from Kal Sharok?, but Bioware seems to only want one dwarf per game. And Harding makes sense as the connecting character from the previous game. Her personal quest will revolve around providing information about Solas to Dorian to relay back to the Inquisitor.

Probably one Laetan mage and one altus for the disparity in mage companions. If three of each class, perhaps a saarebas.

It would be interested if there were a Tal-Vashoth warrior who was actually a high ranking general in the Qunari ranks and either through treachery or disillusionment over the ceaseless war, was removed from command, and is now a prisoner of a magister for information on Qunari military intelligence. Similar to the one Tal Vashoth in DA2 who recognizes he has left the Qun but still has some respect for it.

The would been a Warden companion or maybe Warden recruit who is heading to Weisshaupt but is unable to become a Warden with the civil war going on. Of Anders descent.

For elves, I don't remember if there are many free elves in the Imperium or if they're mostly slaves. And what the state of elven slaves will be after Solas frees most of them...

Oooh, what if one of our companions was an elven slave who was freed, but he has no idea how he was.

Then later in the game we find out collectively it was an operation by Solas and if your approval isn't high enough the elf bails to join him.

Fenris is off in Tevinter killing slavers.

Please let him show up this time?

I would love for him to show up, but his opposition to magic. He could be just another Vivienne. I hope if he does show up he matured some or at least he is willing to talk about magic without constant disapproval. A part of me does want him to show up but not if he is simply the same Fenris in DA2.

It's highly unlikely that he'll show up, and if he does, he will only be a minor character.  It is possible for him to die in DAII.

Am I the only one that wants or expects a Fex companion?

Also what cameos do you guys think there will be?

I think Feynriel could be a cameo appearance similar to Connor in DAI. Since he can be tranquil or possessed, he won't be in every world state, but it would be interesting to see a Southern transplant in the Imperium.

Since DAI never answered the question of the DA:A companions, I wonder if Nathaniel will be at Weisshaupt and involved in an awakened darkspawn subplot.

I suspect that our Inquisitor will make a cameo at the very least, but Dorian and Harding are probably a lock to be included in some capacity for DA4. I will be curious to see what role Maevaris plays, whether as a new companion or simply a compatriot to Dorian? Also that epilogue slide that mentioned Leliana passing along her knowledge not only to Lace Harding, but to Charter and Rector as well, gives a slight chance that their roles may be expanded in the future, but I don't recall actually seeing Rector in the game? His war table communiques were all that I remember.

I would think that Tallis might show up as a dark horse possibility. Given what went on between Mythal/Flemeth and Solas, perhaps we will see a glimpse of Morrigan again. And c'mon Bioware, Arishok Sten is a MUST.

I am mostly excited to actually get into this map area indicated, and explore some new turf. Tevinter can't get here quickly enough!!

I have to see the Fex before I decide if I want them to be a companion.  We don't really know much about them at this point.  But I'm definitely very curious about them and want to see what they look like (if they are even still a unique species).

They should still be a unique species based off the way they were described, they've just been fully integrated into the Qun.

I think the best way to learn about them is to have one as a major character, if not as a companion at least as a member of the players organization.

Oghren was the best, we are lesser for his loss.

You are entitled to your opinion though, and I'm glad there's another Dwarf fan here.

Being forced to even play a Tevinter would be a huge no for me. I don't want to save this shithole of an Empire. I want to destroy it and everything it represent since Origins...

I'm hopping aboard the theory that we're going to play someone Orlesian just because in DA2 we played a Ferelden in the Free Marches. In DAI, we played a Free Marcher in Orlais/Ferelden.

Companions: (and preferred weapon type)

Warriors:

  • Dwarf Male Noble/ Ambassador (pref. Weapon and Shield - Full Tanking)
  • Human Ex-Venatori Commander/Sympathiser (pref. Two-Handed - AOE DPS/Some Tanking)
  • Seheron Fog Warrior (pref. Dual Longswords - FULL DPS/ No real tanking)

Rogues

  • Lace Harding  - Dwarf Female Inquisition Scout (pref. Archer - Ranged DPS)
  • Human Tevinter Mage-Killer Assassin (pref. Dual Wielding Daggers - DPS)
  • Grey Warden Rogue (pref. Single Longsword, Duelist - Defense, Evasion and Some survivability) Y

Mages

  • Maevaris Tilani - Human Female Tevinter Magister (pref. Support)
  • Elven Arcane Warrior Mage (pref. Battlemage) X
  • Former Saarebas Qunari (pref. Damage)

The focus should be on more non-human characters, and therefore more non-human romance options. There should also be a roughly even split of male/female characters in the game, which would help in the availability of romances (From the reveal of DAI's companions and advisors, you could quickly see that there was going to be more male characters to romance than females). Variety helps most people be satisfied. I would also love if there was a fem-Qunari and fem-Dwarf companion, just for a change in scenary, and also male and female dwarf romances, which I KNOW can be done well. Plus, maybe a male dwarf can have a beard...and chest hair? Best of both.

Advisors, NPCs and Cameos:

  • Dorian Pavus - the leader of the Lucini and direct link to the past team
  • Fenris/Merrill - only ONE of these characters can be dead by the end of DAII. Fenris CAN be shipped off to Tevinter, but he is still alive. I can see one of these characters returning to aid the PC, dependant on Hawke's choice in DAII (Mages vs Templars). Merrill joins if Hawke joined the mages, Fenris joins with if Hawke  joined the templars. [i.e. regardless of whether the other one survived or not]. Both would help the player character in either rescuing elven slaves, or in pursuing Solas and his elven supporters. [Merrill pursues for dalish lore, Fenris to bring down an elven magister] The PC would also have the ability to affect how the character ends up, just like in DAI's advisors - i.e encourage/discourage Merrill's use of blood magic, encourage/discourage Fenris' hatred of mages.
  • Sten - Sten would become the current Arishok. Dependent on the PC's actions, they could also gain his respect. He could also be the final threat if the PC sides with Tevinter.
  • WARDENS - We NEED to see some old wardens returning. The only problem is that not all players have them alive. As far as I know, Velanna, Sigrun, Nathaniel, Oghren, Anders/Justice and Beth/Carver can ALL die at some point in DAA/DAII. However, only the fates/deaths of Nathaniel, Anders and the sibling are recognised in DA Keep, leaving Oghren, Velanna and Sigrun seemingly alive in EVERYONE's playthroughs - I am basing A LOT of info on the Keep. This means that they are the MOST likely to return, either in a main role or cameo capacity, ESPECIALLY if we visit Weisshaupt. WE CAN ONLY PRAY!!!! On another note, Velanna could be used instead of X, or Sigrun could be used instead of Y. I would prefer Velanna, seing as the majority of her Awakening endings are ambiguous, whereas Sigrun goes VERY suicidal in most. PLS BIOWARE!
  • The Hero of Ferelden - I know, it's too good to be true. But the customisable Hawke in DAI gave me some hope. They could always just kill him off completely - MAYBE THEIR DEATH CATALYSES A GREY WARDEN CIVIL WAR?!?!
  • Feynriel - He either goes to Tevinter, becomes Tranquil or is possessed. But never dead, which means he can return.
  • Calpurnia - would love to see her back, although she can die (jumps off of cliff...into water?)

Specialisations:

  • Champion, Spirit Warrior & Reaver/Berserker for Warriors (Tevinter doesn't have lyrium templars, so finally we can ditch the spec)
  • Ranger, Assassin, Duelist for Rogues (I considered Tempest, but then thought that it's abilities could instead be split into the others, ie Assassin gets freeze time, Duelist gets frost defense, etc.)
  • Blood Mage, KE/Arcane Warrior, Spirit Mage for Mages (Spirit Mage would take Necro's Spirit DPS, but have no healing, only support. Blood Mage also MUST return if we go to Tevinter)

Companions and NPCs would also react more to the spec. e.g. Blood Mages would be accepted by magisters, but not by slaves. Champions would be respected, Assassins would make people wary.

Plot Points:

  • Tevinter Reformation/Complete Corruption, based on player choice
  • Qunari-Tevinter War, winners based on player choice
  • A Slave rebellion - with tie ins to Elves joining Solas, or just overthrowing the magisters (links to overall outcome for Tevinter)
  • Inquisition forces in the background, led by Dorian and/or Harding, trying to stop/save Solas
  • The Grey Warden Civil War - Weisshaupt is nearby, so I could see that being another warden plot [all of the warden plots so far seem to be leading up to an eventual Blight!]
  • Dwarven, and even Qunari, Origins and History - so far it has only been hinted at. Elves got some revelations in DAI, so I think it's time for the lesser-regarded races to come into the spotlight. Titans and Valta could come back. [Plus, I see that, if humans are going to find out about their gods, it would be in the last DA.]

Thanks for reading this block of text  :)  ;)  :D

It would be cool to play a double agent of some kind, either Ben-Hassrath or agent of Fen'Harel, who infiltrates the former Inquisitor's new organization. With options to either continue sabotaging the ex-Inquisitor's efforts, or going rogue. Let me be the lying McLiarPants party member for once! Sadly, I don't know whether other players would appreciate having that kind of background, or if it would tarnish the heroism for them.

Playing as a Lucerni magister would also be fun. For once, non-mages could have the oppressed backgrounds while mages get to be nobility.

I'd love to have Mae as a companion. More Tevinters, too, people like Krem or Fenris who are from humbler backgrounds (not necessarily Krem or Fenris themselves, due to the wide variety of world states for them). Also a chance for fog warriors to show up. Oooo, also dwarves, since they have an interesting relationship with Tevinter. People from across the sea? More "across the sea" lore in general.

I'm wondering whether we'll finally get a chance to see some of the Arigena's people in action, now that we're much closer to Par Vollen. All of our interactions with the Qunari have been through the lens of their military or spies, would be nice to see some farmers, bakers, and tailors. Also: going to Par Vollen would be way cool, seeing the pyramids and picking up dusty codices about the Fex.

Annnnnd the part of me that pines for JE2 wants to see Nevarran necropoli, though going to Rivain, Antiva, or even Starkhaven would be cool.

I suppose griffons might pop in to say "hi we're not extinct anymore" at some point, along with whatever's going down at Weisshaupt. I selfishly hope they stay locked in Weisshaupt for the whole game so I have more time to explore northern Thedas. I realize that would be a terrible idea, given the Wardens' popularity. :D

Some hopes I have for DA4:

A player character who works for the Inquisitor/Dorian in some capacity, with the Inquisitor making appearances when major dealings with Solas occur (possibly as a second playable character).

Lots of Tevinter and Qunari lore. Dorian opened up a new perspective on Tevinter in DAI, but this is the first time we can actually experience Tevinter first-hand and make up our own minds. The same goes for the Qunari - if we actually go to Seheron, and maybe even Par Vollen, we can get a much better insight into their culture.

A Tal-Vashoth companion. We've had Sten who was a hardcore Qun loyalist, and we've had Bull who believed in the Qun, but was far enough removed from it to have a slightly more open mind. It's time we get an actual Tal-Vashoth - someone who has lived under the Qun and found it unbearable enough to leave their life behind and try to find a new life outside the Qun - to give us an entirely new perspective of the Qun. Sten and Bull are both basically proponents of the Qun, highlighting the good things about it when you talk to them. A Tal-Vashoth could give us the other side.

Also, if we DO get a Tal-Vashoth companion, please let it be a female qunari, and please make her an LI!

If the Warden civil war plays a part, I would also like to see the return of Sigrun, who might be my favourite dwarf companion yet (sorry, Varric), and the Architect, whom I really don't think we've seen the last of. Maybe the civil war has something to do with the Architect directly - he might have approached the wardens with his ideas about the darkspawn, and there might have been a split in the wardens over whether to work with him or not.

Also, since we will most likely be in Tevinter, this is the perfect time to reintroduce the Blood Mage spec, and do it right. It doesn't really make sense to run around an entire game in a nation full of blood mages without the opportunity to become one yourself, but at the same time it should acknowledge the risks, and may have a negative effect in the long run.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get my thoughts down. There's lots more I'd also like to see, but these are probably my main points.

Shut your mouth.

About Shale I mean.

Zevran can appear or not appear though I'd really like him to be in something Antivan (DA5 even). Oghren I can't think of any good reason so far for him to ever appear again.

I'm hopping aboard the theory that we're going to play someone Orlesian just because in DA2 we played a Ferelden in the Free Marches. In DAI, we played a Free Marcher in Orlais/Ferelden.

Well sortaaaaa.

In DA2 we played a Ferelden, but we came from a Free Marcher family line. It takes some time, but we become known more as a Free Marcher than a Ferelden from Lothering.

In DAI we played a Free Marcher, but only just enough of a Free Marcher that it would make sense for us to ask things about Ferelden and Orlais, and have a kind of neutral standpoint. We pretty easily settle into the role of the Ferelden-Orlesian Inquisitor instead of a Free Marcher.

So I do agree that the next protagonist may have connection to Orlais (even Ferelden, to a point?), but it'll probably not be as simple as that. I don't know what the particulars could be, but I'm almost sure there would be particulars that keep us from actually being 'An Orlesian in Tevinter'.

And I doubt we're going to be given an Orlesian accent. Maybe a light one.

And its just a feeling, but I wonder if we'll ever have a protagonist that doesn't have any connection (albeit smaller and smaller by the game) to Ferelden. Whether its something familial, magical, cultural, historical, personal, etc etc etc, its easy to imagine Bioware always writing in *something* in any game's plot that ties even slightly into Ferelden through the protagonist (Warden and Hawke being from there, and Inquisitor partially residing there). Could be wrong.

Fenris was actually pretty reasonable about magic, considering his background. He just didn't like mages who were drunk on power and hurting people, and he didn't trust mages who weren't like that not to become like that. But on the rivalry path he admits that maybe it's time to let go of his hatred, as it's not making his life any better. :P

Anyway, contributing to the thread: I'd like for him to show up, too.

If we expect DA4 to be another dark middle chapter than the finale, I hope for more Titan interaction, if but because they serve as an interesting foil to spirits. The origins of the Qunari, finally explaining what Kal-Sharok exactly did to itself, possibly bringing back The Architect (if he's written well). I like the idea of forming an army of comparatively monstrous beings to challenge the fair folk. Go to Hell to fight Heaven, that sort of thing.

I think that we will be part of Dorian's group and that it will act like a mini Inquisition (with table missions/influence ect). The main plot will revolve around Solas, Tevinter, The Qunari invasion, and whatever is going on with the Grey Wardens.

In terms of characters returning in some fashion:

The Inquisitor since they will be in contact with Dorian and most likely the PC since the Inquisitor is out to find them. Plus the fact that they are heavily involved with the Solas plot.

Dorian (obviously)

Scout Harding due to her popularity

Blackwall might make a cameo with the grey warden plot-line

Josephine because she is the only adviser who cannot be dead and she in my opinion would be a fantastic ally.

Sera mentioned she is totally up to aid the Inquisitor and i can see her assisting in some way or at least her and her Jennies making a small cameo.

Cole (if he is made more spirit)

With characters i except to only be referenced in dialogue:

Iron Bull since he can be killed and his story is in my opinion done.

Varric too busy and has had a major role in two games already.

Viv can be divine and i don't see her getting involved in anything besides restarting/aiding the circle

Cassandra can be divine and seems far too busy

Leliana can be dead/divine

And now as much as i would LOVE to see my cully wully in a major role again his story is very much done.

So now that we have a little knowledge about what might be seeing in DA4, it seems like the perfect time for us to start speculating.  Especially if we start treating our speculation as fact so that we can be super disappointed and bitter when it doesn't come to pass.  After all, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, right?

Love that ... so true :P
