I was confused by Solas's exposition at the end of Trespasser. Which came first, the war between the "gods" or the freeing of the slaves? If there was a war that created the "gods," who then enslaved people, does that mean there was then another war that caused Solas to create the Veil? Was Solas concerned about stopping the war, or freeing the slaves? Or is this just all revenge for the death of Mythal?

My guess is that the war came first, and it wasn't among the Enavuris.  One of the codex entries in the shattered library describes the conflict between the Enavuris and the Forgotten Ones.  I'm guessing that's the war Solas was talking about.  So, timeline as follows:

  • The Enavuris battle and seal away the Forgotten Ones
  • Gradually, the Enavuris become kings, then gods, and start enslaving the elves
  • Solas/Fen'Harel starts to free the elves
  • The Enavuris kill Mythal
  • Solas/Fen'Harel ramps up his resistance to them, eventually creating the veil and locking away the Enavuris
