Know i'm rather late, but just finished reading all 9 pages of this thread! 
OP i love your theory, and a lot of the stuff others have posted. Really gave me a lot to think about in regards to the future direction of the series.  Any idea if/when you/ll finish off this theory?

aah, sry this is really late but I don't think I will .... the thread has kinda died down. basically, my solas theory is that he was originally a pride spirit, and then was asked to take a physical form by Mythal, and then was closely tied to her (as a guardian or friend figure/ally) ever since. 

 

That is purely speculation, but it definitely makes sense given what we know as of now. 

 

I'll answer any questions though

I'd be interested to know why you think Mythal was killed, was it as simple as her taking a stand with Solas against the Pantheon, or was it anything more? 

I know we have barely any info on this but who doesn't love baseless speculation!

Ugh that gets really complicated. I think Mythal was more than just a powerful mage, or a leader. There is some unknown aspect of her, probably related to dragons and the fundamentals of Thedas itself, that we don't know about yet. It's my opinion that this aspect of her either threatened too much power against the other evanuris or could be exploited by the evanuris some how, so they killed her. 

 

I think we're going to find out more about what she was next game, but I'm fairly sure there's more to her than what meets the eye, and whatever that was ended up being her doom.
