Has anyone tested how this works? It seems sketchy to me, don't know why I would use it over the normal spirit mark.

Old Spirit Mark = Buggy Crap
New Spirit Mark = Actual DPS
You can have a total of 4 wisps which orbit your Necro. Basically, you steal a piece of the enemy's soul and it fires spirit damage at your targets. It will fire independently but fires off faster with your auto-attacks.
New Encore Staff schematic + Wisps of the Fallen + Any Superb Rune of your choice (I like spirit for more spirit damage) and you have a Necro magical machine gun
. The only catch is you need mobs to steal souls from--but it is above and beyond the basic Spirit Mark. It's quite fun in Trespasser as there will be plenty of oxmen to reap.

I prefer just a little wisp that occasionally fires spirit bolts at people that need to get dead.

my problem with the new necro is all i ever wanna cast is WB and SM now....which uses all my mana...by the time my mana recharges thier off cooldown again, so i like never get to cast other spells.

Thing is with necro you really do not need other spells, immolate, bomb and spirit mark got you covered. What yo do need are passives which allow you spells to cooldown faster and mana regen.

Absolutely! The new buffs lend themselves well to a unique style for the Necro, I would also recommend the new toggle for Fade Step because it cures all of your mana issues. Since you only need Walking Bomb and Spirit Mark--you can fill your bar with anything!

So will this prevent the buggy way old Spirit Mark would prevent quests from completing? I'd like to use it, but I don't like the idea of nearly failing wicked eyes again because I didn't realize I'd necromanced someone by accident.

Necro fans- I found an Amulet in Emprise du Lion just a few hours ago- pulled it off of Imshael's corpse. It is called 'The Amulet of Renewal'- the wearer of this amulet refreshes mana or stamina at a faster rate (or words to that affect).

Alternatively you can use mana surge but requires barrier, which us not a bad thing for nm with some challengs enabled.

Free-walking bomb normally fixes things right up. Just always follow the ridiculously expensive WB with Energy Barrage. Detonate WB and then cast again. Now you have spread WB, replaced it on the main target, and probably proc'd a few masterworks or two. I don't normally condone using techniques like this (I'm looking at you energy barrage guaranteed crit thread) but Necro spells are too expensive. Maybe a sigil will fix it or something. *shrug*
My Qunari Necro playthrough is over after Descent. No interest anymore, which is ironic since now it's stronger than ever.

The new upgrade is buggy for me. It says that it reduces the cooldown of Spirit Mark from 20 to 15 seconds, but for me it still has the full cooldown.

another thing of note, i dont think people have realized somehow, is WB's virulent upgrade works as its worded now.
IE before you could detonate it right away and spread it....now it won't spread if the detonate doesn't kill the target its on.
