I don't necessarily like the idea of needing some MacGuffin to stop Solas. We don't know that he can't just be killed, all we know about his power is that he can spam the petrification spell.

I doubt we're stopping Solas , the game shows that his plans tends to backfire , and if you're friend with him he got doubts about what he is doing.Something will simply go wrong along the way .

Solas going to have a redemption ending where he will sacrifice himself , just wait.

Bitter end: Solas dies alone as he always feared

Redemption end: Solas dies in the Inquisitor's arms, while DA4's protagonist is given a dialog wheel with four to six potential comments to express how s/he feels about all of it.

that's lame. bioware should give us a happy ending twist for once.

Ewww..

That right there is exactly what I don't want to happen. The inquisitor being defualted to one of 2 feelings/actions. Blach! I'm going to go vomit now. Brb.

If you think DAI is about a generic chosen one, you missed the point. That said, I think Bioware did a bad job in executing their story. But the whole point of DAI was to deconstruct the chosen one story, because the Inquisitor isn't one (and Corypheus is barely the villain).

While I give BioWare props for attempting to deconstruct this trope, frankly they failed at it. At the end of the day, you're still the only one with the special power to save the world. The only difference is that you accidentally got that status which is something we don't find out until halfway through the game and there are no repercussions for. No protests against you, no throngs of people leaving the inquisition or pulling support, no having to prove yourself worthy of the people's trust even without being chosen by Andraste. You just continue on exactly as before. If the game had been about a charlatan who was tricking everyone into thinking he was a chosen one and buying off people, manipulating situations, staging various events, etc...to make him seem legit and always stay one step ahead then it would be a different story. Corypheus is barely a villain because he's extremely incompetent. By the end of the game I kind of felt like a bully stomping on him at every turn.

Where is option 3 where the inquisitor kicks Solas into a volcano 300-style while laughing maniacally?

I have no problem with Solas getting a redemptive ending. I have no problem with Solas getting a happy ending. And I have no problem with Solas getting a "face death with dignity" ending.

What I have a problem with is him having the same ending regardless of our decisions, whoever the protagonist is.

As I've stated, my personal desire is to have Solas go out like Arl Howe - cursing our names in impotent anger as he crawls through a pool of his own blood before succumbing to his injuries.

I absolutely wouldn't wand this to be the only ending available to him, though. While I would take no small amount of satisfaction in that ending, I wouldn't take any joy at all in it being forced on those who love Solas and want to save and redeem him.

Hmm... I was thinking more of a split storytelling element, though it would require cut-aways from both characters at certain progression points and more of a DA:2 style of story telling to pull it off.

Namely, the game would be two competing stories that slowly become more intertwined as the game progresses.  For the new PC the focus would be centered around the Social Unrest/Slave Rebellion arc, for the Inquisitor they are dealing with pursuing Solas (or looking for a way to deal with a Demi-God) bringing them to Tevinter and getting help from Dorian.  The Inquisitor would mostly be dungeon diving (like in Inquisition) and the new PC would mostly deal with City Exploration allowing us to get to know both the country and the Capital.

Both character's get to deal with what they are intrinsically related to them and wouldn't have to be forced into a conflicts that don't immediately concern them.  Very little, if any direct interaction between the two characters would occur due to the different level of Tevinter Society they would be effectively working at, though some of their actions may affect the other's goals, either positively or negatively.  In effect, potentially turning the other PC into a faceless, temporary, minor Antagonist for the other.  Each side would have a more compact number of companions since the roster would be split between two groups.  A few could even have to option to side for either PC, effectively locking them from the other.

The War with the Qunari would be a huge event and most certainly get both PC's dragged into it, assuming they are both in Tevinter.  It would serve as an effective middle arc and be a great break from the main stories. Both characters would get to deal with their own problems in the War, maybe even meeting for the first time, and ultimately this Arc would be the Catalyst for "Individual PC Stories" to start bleeding together, getting a PC involved in the other's problems, whether they know it yet or not.

Final "chapter" would be the conclusion of both of the "PC Stories" and both PC's (and their companions) would play a part in both finale's.  Since Solas is a world altering event (and Tevinter reform is a Nation altering one) the confrontation with Solas would probably be the climax of the game, but perhaps the re-stabilization/reformation of Tevinter is a required precursor to help in his defeat.  This is kind of how I see a dual-protagonist story working for DA:4.  It would keep both characters active and relevant, actually have them both retain combat and RPG game elements, and EVENTUALLY get them both involved in the matters that shouldn't have immediately concerned them.

Just want to remark how great an idea this is. :-)  I was hoping for something like this for DA3 originally. I'd love to see it.

Alternative end: Inquisitor finds missing arm and starts hitting Solas in the head with it until he dies. following scene, is the new protagonist resurrecting Solas, just to be able to kill him again, this time hitting him in the butt with the prosthetic inquisitor's arm who was dropped by mistake during some random battle.
