I'd be one of them, if they sold something other than spins on a slot machine. That's just something I'll never support; it doesn't matter the company or the game.
But for me, the fun comes from the progression, so I wouldn't pay to make my enjoyment shorter. It's obvious I worded the OP poorly. What I mean is... what other kind of enjoyment is there? Why is it more fun to get a better item sooner? If it's just to play or to play with friends, I get that. I've played shooters and things with no progression and still had fun. But why rush to the higher difficulties? How does that change anything?
Respectfully, your first sentence contradicts your second one. There is no item progression in this game, it's all RNG. Sometimes you just want a chance at shortening the grind. It's not like you would get all lvl 27 items, even if you spent hundreds on platinum. People still play the game and promote after they have hakkon wepaons
I've bought platinum three times,(around $70), and gotten nothing but delicious scrap out of two of them. DO YOU LIKE THE HOSSBERG TWAINER!?, HERE"S ANOTHER HOSSBERG TWAINER!?. I learned my lesson, and am upset there wasn't SOMETHING to be gained from buying platinum, but it's not like I can't pay my mortgage now.
The Bioware could learn something from mobile games, when you buy platinum, you could get modest "perks". Other games call them VIP/Royalty levels or something to that effect. I emphasize modest because they shouldn't give you a huge advantage over free to play players. How about some exp potions that grant 10% exp boost for 2 hours with a purchase? Or all promoted characters start at level two? Or a couple free dragon calls? Something at all would have been nice.
They really spit the bit on the platinum system. Bioware could have made a lot more money if it had been implemented better, which as others have said, would have led to more support for the game, and subsequently a better experience for the free players as well.
