If you have high EMS it doesn't destroy the Citadel and shows it fine
I can't remember exactly what my EMS was but it was enough for Shepard to live. I think it was just a rogue slide because it was like one slide with the thing completely in tatters and then the next few slides looking almost intact with just a few fires! This is on the Xbox, by the way.
