So I'm surprised I'm not seeing more 'new' build guides with all the changes to abilities so I figured why not get it started. Below is my Tempest dagger ability load out:

1.Twin Fangs - Ripped Fangs

2.Deathblow - Thrill of Victory

3.Stealth - Lost in the Shadows

4.Shadow Strike - Quickblade

5.Flask of Fire - Unquenchable Flames

6. Flask of Frost - Frost Bite

7. Flask of Lightning - Thunderstruck

8. Poison Weapons - Leeching Poison

There were minimal changes for my playstyle despite the addition of toggles. I think the front facing twin fangs upgrade is very strong actually and would work well if I wanted a 'tankier' build but I find myself tankier enough and I rely on flank positioning for crit and added damage as a rogue.

The flask of frost upgrade is hysterically strong especially in clumped groups with a hidden blades proc on a weapon. Enemies refreeze immediately after being shattered so they shatter nearly each time the hidden blades proc does damage and now all the damage is AoE. Which is great because, aside from the artificer, AoE was lacking for rogues. Loses utility against things that can't be frozen but very few enemies that can't travel in large groups.

The most notable change, and I'll be surprised if I don't see this in nearly every rogue build from here on forth, is the leeching poison upgrade to poison weapons. It's as strong as the Horn of Valor ally blessing guard upgrade. 5% health back per attack basically equates to a 50% heal every FoL.

When I start my all trials nightmare playthrough this will probably be my go to build once at sky-hold. Would love thoughts, not even on just Tempest builds but on how specific abilities have caused you to change your build up in anyway would be enlightening to hear.

I always ran my tempest as an archer.

I noticed thunderstruck and i thought, hey i might try a dagger build (i suck at melee with daggers lol)......and i wont go back. If i want an archer, artificer will be my go to.

I use
Thousand cuts
flask of fire- original upgrade
flask of frost- haven't tried the new upgrade yet, but the taunt fits a new playstyle for me.
Flask of lightning- become the storm with thunderstruck!!!
Spinning blades (the whirly skill)
twin fangs
the two hit skill with the stealth upgrade
Mark of the Rift

So i taunt enemies, slash at them with my dagger or twin fangs
Then activate thunderstruck, whirly blades everyone, and then might activate flask of fire and use twin fangs and the two hit stealth move.

It needs refinement, but it is sooooo much better than being a tempest archer (for me at least).

I'm a big fan of DW Tempest (and DW Artificer). I run a similar build- but I use the 1000 Cuts (swapping here and there with MoR) and I use Throwing Blades instead of Twin Fangs. I love opening an engagement with FOFire and Throwing Blades. I haven't used Poison much- I'll have to give it a try.

Totally agree...FoF plus throwing blades is my go to move

Kind of curious to try throwing blades under upgraded flask of lightning to get more lightning damage

Would you ever consider making a video of this build? I would be really interested in seeing this in action..ya know without doing it myself lol.

What do people think of Thousand cuts vs Mark of the Rift?

Is it worth having both or dropping one to favor another?

Im still tinkering with ideas for a more serious Daggers build compared to my current build.

I don't run both- usually one or the other. I generally prefer 1000 cuts- it usually does more damage. But- I'll swap in MoR depending on the fight- MoR is great at rifts and for weak trash mobs. And- specifically- a Static Cage + MoR is devastating. The four level 30 laser beam floaty demons you find in the JOH- can be quickly dispatched by MoR + Static Cage.

Not a big fan of poisoned weapons after Skyhold.  That may be me though.  And yes, that's even with the leeching poison upgrade.  Nor do I like Shadow Strike on a post-skyhold rogue.  Your crit is good and no reason to have a 16 sec cd ability.  When you need it, it's on cooldown.   Better to just get stamina from crits passively.

Take all three flasks from Tempest + a focus ability (pick one)

Twin Fangs and Death Blow for detonators

Flank Attack or Evade

Throwing Knives

Throwing Knives upgrade works great and I love how it stacks sunder so fast.  Plus using it while under FoL puts out a lot of electric damage.

Yeah that thunderstruck passive is awesome!

They really gave some love to the Tempest. I hope that it is in the next game.

Anybody with some tempest experience - how would you go about leveling a build like Bigdawgs?

Take all three flasks from Tempest + a focus ability (pick one)
Twin Fangs and Death Blow for detonators
Flank Attack or Evade
Throwing Knives

Starting at Level 12 with 13 ability points, I am thinking:

Six points in the dagger tree for the right side down to Deathblow and Flank Attack + Stealth Upgrade

5 points in the tempest tree for the three flasks, going down the left side.

I don't know where to put the last two points - start building towards throwing knives, take stealth+upgrade and respecc that later, or take two upgrades, maybe for Flask of Fire and Ripping Fangs? What do you suggest?

I love tempest Archer once I got my superb barrier amulet. You really don't need to worry about survivability any more (assuming you aren't tanking like a KE) with all the barrier and stealth from the leap shot.

I use:

Hidden Blade and Shield Bash master work

Abilities:

flask of fire

flask of lightning

long shot

leap shot

explosive shot

throwing blades

poisoned weapons

Evade

I just start with fire flask (with +duration upgrade), cycle through every single ability (you have more than enough time to cycle through all of them at least twice for the duration of 1 fire flask), then once fire flask expires pop lightning flask for, CD, reposition if you leaped too far, more hits etc. Then fire flask and ability spam again.

You will be on full barrier all the time just like a KE. No need to worry about your survivability.

My new build is a dw sabotage artificer.

Flanking strikes bleeding upgrade
Spinning blades spread upgrade
Poison cloud elusive upgrade
Caltrops bleeding upgrade
Hook and tackle tether upgrade
Walking bomb, immolate and chain lightning on hit

Never liked neither artificer nor sabotage before but i changed my mind. I really like this build as it has everything i need. Great aoe damage without ff, strong defense, great utility (tether hook is just great against mages and despair demons). The missing single target damage comes from cole and dorian and cass is basically just a buffing bot that keeps my enemies stacked. This party comp has superb synergies and makes my nm ff all trials run a walk in the park. Currently at lvl 18, running t2 schematics with t2 materials through JoH and only 2h hakkonites elites pose a threat as they can oneshot cass with full life, guard and barrier if elusive stacks run out.

Honestly: Shadow Strike and Flask of Fire is the shiitake.

Right now on my Rogue, if I watch for Solas to zip by on Fade Step and Winter's Grasp something, if I Shadow Strike it, the resulting shatter, and raw damage, will almost instantly kill the majority of enemies I fight (promoted ones too). Also, can't believe I used to just ignore Saboteur, that Tree was far more beastly than I remember.

I generally run a priority system.  As soon as I have enough points to invest in a more efficient manner, I respec.  Gold is easy to come ya know.

Priority 1:  Survival:  Flask of Frost and Stealth ( 2 points).  Eventually replace stealth with flank attack (+skirmisher)

Priority 2:  Damage:  Twin Fangs and Deathblow.  (4 points)

Priority 3:  Burst:  Flask of Fire & upgrade ( 2 points)  (Use with deathblow when target is < 50% health)

Priority 4:  Utility:  Flask of Lightning & upgrade (4 points).  I prefer the right side, but eventually you'll get both.

That requires 12 points.  What comes next?

You need to sunder enemy armor.  Twin Fang upgrade is easy to get.  Replace stealth with flank attack (+skirmisher).  Depending on sigil of choice, you may find that you need "looked like it hurt".  Just know that low stamina gives you a damage boost as a Tempest.  Seriously though, from here on out it's just candy on a tree.  Pick what you want and play around with it.  Me personally, I'd dig down to get Throwing Knives for some ranged goodness.  Also upgrade all abilities currently in-use.

My usual DW Tempest build looks like this:

  1. Death Blow
  2. Spinning Blades
  3. Throwing Blades
  4. Poisoned Weapons
  5. Flask of Frost
  6. Flask of Fire
  7. Flask of Lightning
  8. Thousand Cuts

I start up with FoL -> positioning -> SB to trigger the FoL upgrade on many targets, then FoFr -> DB that triggers a shatter combo, and lastly FoF -> PW -> spamming TB.

My survivability is taken care of by healing PW and the Horn.

I'm really trying to like spinning blades as a tempest but it falls short of throwing knives I think.
