I don't know what everyone's talking about, I blitz'd him and he fell over.

Guess I've just got too much DPS :x

Double Static Cage, Mark of the Riff, a Throwing Blades spamming Varric, and a Warhorn Cass. He dropped to the final stage before he even started.

Did you get the bug where he leaps into the air at ~0 hp and gets stuck there forever? I killed that fine fellow twice before I realized I needed to reduce my DPS.

Maybe it's not a DPS thing, maybe it's just a Mark of Death thing? Did the same thing to Corypheus 3 or 4 times (first couple because I didn't know better, then later because I wasn't paying attention). Especially with double Mark of Death, it's possible to take someone who's over 75% health and drop them immediately to 0, which means that they don't even hit their first hp-based phase threshold.

Or simply dress in a cow costume, and he will stop attacking you immediately, qunari worships cows because it's their ancestors.

I see too many people saying this is a easy boss and then saying they cleared it in normal mode.... -_-

He's really not that bad. Pride demon in the prologue gave me more grief, personally. On Nightmare, he can be brought to 0 before even summoning 1 wave of demons, but don't do that because he'll glitch out.

The problem comes when people haven't been upgrading their weapons, grenades, and tonics, or if they try to fight him with Blackwall or 3 barrier mages or something. He goes more nuts the more phases he goes through, so the more defensive the party plays, the more miserable they're going to be.

It's funny that my team would be considered among the "defensive ones". In the vanilla part of the game I, using the same team (then at level 23, save for the inquisitor level 24), destroyed the Emprise du lion fire dragon - at level 24 itself, the highest leveled enemy in the original part of the game - before it had even the time to take a single shot, in nightmare as well.

Suppose being defensive is somewhat relative. ;)

BTW, I also got him frozen in mid-air in the fight for two short spells, even though it went through all its phases, but if I kept attacking, eventually it would complete the animation and resume fighting. I would have been reaaaally mad if it stayed stuck in my winning attempt, considering how troublesome it actually were...

I found him to be quiet easy, though I definitely think the fade touched honeycomb helped with that and probably Ranier and Cassandra xD

On Nightmare with no Trials, level capped RM with T4 gear, I found Antivan Fire + Pull of the Abyss excellent for handling all of the demons except for the Rage and Pride. Ice Array and combos took care of them.

For the Saarath, one full focus meltdown and a couple of single bar meltdowns was all it took. Plus he happened to land right in the middle of my Antivan Fire midway through, so that helped too. Cass and Sera both died along the way, but I had time to revive each one before the battle was over.

Level capped skills and T4 gear will make any class/spec more than a match for this boss battle.

I never take Cole. Always prefered a Dual Mage load out. Varric is mah booooy, but if you really want to know, I run the following.

Cassandra for Support Buffs/Area Control

Varric for extreme DPS.

Dorian for Static Cage and Varric's Crit Fuel

And me as a Storm KE.

Double Static Cage, Energy Barrage Spam, Throwing Blade Spam, Mark of the Rift, Haste, Blessed Blades, and Horn of Valor. I nuked him down to 1 HP and had to wait around for more Focus so I could Overload him.

You need to reload back to the point where you first get Anchor Discharge at the beginning of the DLC. When you get to the flickering tree thing, walk towards it with your inquisitor rather than as one of the other party members.

And next time, if an ability or quest reward seems messed up, reload as soon as you notice it. Don't wait until it becomes absolutely necessary hours later.

So I guess I have to start all over if I do not have a previous save file correct? :(

I play on hard, and the secret is in the build before you get there. Spend all your cash to buy the best materials possible and give everyone you plan to take the best armor you can build. Make sure your elemental resistance tonics are maxed out, your regeneration tonics are maxed out  so that one person in your party uses one, the rest get a little help as well. I've had some success giving one person cold tonics and two electrical, while I take Confusion grenades.

The last time I did this I was a warrior so I took myself, Blackwall, Dorian and Vivienne. I'm an archer this time, Build each person in your party the best weapon possible. And if you have an fade-touched materials that build guard, use them on your mages' and rogues' armor.

And use the heck out of the mark in your hand. By the time you get to the final battle, it does a lot of damage and grants invulnerability for a short time. If you take two mages, put Barrier on preferred. Oh, and if you have the Confusions grenades, those are great for making enemies fight for you.
