Weave together the disparate systems and seep them in Dragon Age lore. I want every act I carry out in Dragon Age to drip with the lore. Involve the characters in everything. Have every action affect a real character's life and actions.

When we specialised in DAI, we followed the path of one of our companions. So why were some random, lifeless characters we never got to know brought in to train us? Imagine a real, story-driven side-quest with Solas on how to become a Rift Mage. Have him bring you to an old ruin and spend the time drifting in and out of it's Fade versions. Or have Vivienne bring you to an Orlesian jousting tournament to teach about the spirit of the Knight Enchanter.

When I encountered the Avvar in the Jaws of Hakkon I had the option to bring back the Skywatcher - but I never really knew the Skywatcher. There were so many opportunities to get to know him - he could have been a guide in the Fallow Mire - introducing the Avvar through his character and interaction with other Avvar. He could have been a friend in JoH - perhaps stirring up a rivalry with Svarah Sun-Hair. We could have developed friends in the hold - instead of having them play fetch-quest markers - and have been upset when they fell in battle beside us against the Hakkonites.

And what of Private Whittle in the Hinterlands? Why did he join the Inquisition? Perhaps he didn't get along with his Captain. Maybe you might have had the opportunity to intervene on the local Inquisition priorities. Maybe this would have had an effect when you meet Teagan in Trespasser (instead of having him be a one-note annoyance).

I do love the Dragon Age world - and have built some great characters in what Bioware have given me - but it seems like a waste not to weave the wonderful lore and companions into every action, delivering cause and consequence and surprising us in ways we might have seen coming. I don't want a legendary schematic load randomly in a store - I want to earn my Masterwork Archon Staff Schematic by defeating an evil Archmage and then raiding his library.

well nothing that anyone else hasn't already said but I'll try anyways and also my english sucks so bad its pitiful and I'm REALLY terrible at explaining stuff so sorry in advance if this doesn't make sense ...

on the hair area I think you should add highlights and have braided hair styles & side ponytails maybe even have unnatural hair colors but thats probably way out there & longer hair of course I would also like options to adjust my weight and size

for once I want to have the option to play as a younger character or a much older character like wynne for example I'm not really sure how old your main char is supposed to be but it would be nice to have a young/old char & not just someone made to look like it someone who is younger/older and have romantic interests with younger/older companions I would have loved to be in a romance with cole once you've made him more human and the dialogue between your companions seemed I don't even know how to start but it was very lacking in some places and I don't know if its just me but I always wanted to play as someone whos sarcastic/arrogant/childish and a little naive like me I think that would be very interesting so thats something to think about having in the next game

I really miss the gift giving and being to talk to anyone at campsites I'm not sure why someone would do away with that in the first place and as much as I loved DAI to death it was seriously lacking in a lot of places that I don't even know how to begin or even explain it but its nothing anyone else hasn't already said tho but I faith that the next game is gonna do a lot better and hopefully it will be like a mix of the previous DA games I have lots more stuff to say but I can't quite seem to remember or have the energy to even explain properly... :P

Your suggestions? It's a topic for wishes and rumors. Let's talk about the future of DA franchise...

1. Inquisitor as the protagonist

2. More puzzles

3. More side quests

4. Let us romance the best dwarf in the world - Varric

5. Improved mount animation

6. Customizable and upgradable prosthetic for our Inquisitor

7. Keep the war table idea!

8. More tavern songs

1. That is impossible due the reason they give at the end of Trespasser.

4. Sorry but he's already interested in someone else. I do hope we get to fix things between them though.

One good this to have is mounted combat....although I can't see a Dragon Age Dwarf mounting up to fight due to the way they are.

So...DAI:2. A lot of this seems cosmetic, and isn't much different from the game we have. I mean, mounts were really a wasted resource that could have been put to other features. The posts I've seen enjoying mounts still say "they're not necessary but I enjoy them." It seems like a feature added only because Bio wanted to copy Skyrim.

I highly doubt Varric is going to make an appearance, let alone be a romance in this game. He barely had anything to do in DAI other than to serve as the DA2/Hawke bridge. Why would he appear when he's the viscount of Kirkwall now?

Varric could appear though it would be a rushed thing that would skip over a lot of stuff but he could be your bridge to uniting the Free Marches against the Qunari in an exalted march or just a war against them plus they'd have to find a way to explain Varric talking to Sebastian besides the risk of the end of the world

1) Hairstyles!

I'd like a variety of braids or buns instead of 87 near-baldies. I don't like long loose hair though, that'd be impractical. Some nice up-do styles would be fantastic!

2) more Armor variety & keep the crafting and tinting

Light / Medium / Heavy should be more distinguishable from each other and come in different styles generally.

3) keep the multiple races, just as they were in DAI

(but maybe let them have more influence on how people react to the PC)

4) NEW PC

This is really important. Give me the Inquisitor and / or HoF as Advisor, but let me have a new PC.

5) Origins

Since we are talking new PC, let me chose from a few different origins. Slave, noble, refugee, circle mage whatever. And if you really want to win me over:

6) make the Origins playable

yesss <3

7) more voice actors

since I absolutely disliked the raspy female Inquisitor voice, I was stuck with the same voice for all my characters. one more option in between the voices would have been fantastic.

8) better side quests, no mmo style

9) more companion content

This is the best about the DA Franchise. Give me moooore. Let me play mini games with them, go out for drinks, throw a party, go hunting etc

10) romance

why can't the NPC be more active? there could be an NPC who approaches the PC first and flirts first, a bit like Zevran. I felt like I had to talk people into their romances in DAI.

11) other than that, keep up the good stuff about the romances, I loved them nevertheless

12) cities

you guys don't like cities, do you? we get lots of plains, deserts and woods, but hardly any large city areas. I'd love to explore one for a change.

13) headquarters

Skyhold really had character as a headquarter and I grew very attached. I'd like to have a place to call my own in DA4, maybe decorate it a bit. Make it feel alive and loveable.

14) specializations

I had lots of fun with them, especially the mage ones. keep it up.

15) bring back the currency from the earlier games... for immersion

16) clothing

When hanging around the headquarters or going to a business meeting or ball, let me have a choice of clothing. Some pretty ones, some simple ones. Make them look more like what you give NPCs to wear, make it look more normal. All the Skyhold outfits felt really awkward to me, I didn't quite love any of them.

17) animal companion

please please please bring back the Mabari

18) Black Emporium from the beginning

EDIT: - I almost forgot the most important one -

19) bring back familiar people

Everyone is screaming for the HoF, I'd like that. But even more so, I want to see companions from previous games again. Dorian above all, and possibly Sera. I do love Varric, but I feel he has had his fill of major roles. Maybe he'll make a small cameo, I'd be happy.

Varric could appear, but it would only be a King Alistair in DA2 cameo, I think. There really isn't a good reason why he would be in Tevinter. I doubt Kirkwall, the historical slave capital of the old Tevinter Imperium, would be glad to have their viscount travel there for ambassadorial reasons. And depending on how soon after DAI the game is, he would be stuck in Kirkwall for some time in relief efforts.

Honestly, if DA4 has a bridge character from the Free Marches, I think Fenris would be a better fit. Yes, it's possible he's died in some games, but if he's just an optional appearance, that would work. I don't think having someone representing the Free Marches in Tevinter is as important as someone representing the Inquisition (Harding) or the Southern Chantry (a few options).

• A good, well thought out story.

• Well developed complex companions that are accually involved with said story.

• A protag that's not a blank slate (they're soo boring). Origin stories or something like it needs to come back so we can get a feel for the character.

Show us the state of the world and the consequences of our choises, don't tell us like in DAI!

• Add quirky npcs like DAOs nutty chantry sisters, the rhyming oak and the crazy hermit- the world feels empty without them.

• Real story sidequests, no more cheap mmo fetch quests!

• A good charismatic villain that's accually competent and doesn't act like a complete moron.

• More complex and deep romances.

• The option to be evil, self serving like in Jade Empire and KOTOR.

• Better character creator. Get rid of the helmet hair!

• Stop using the male mocap for female characters!

• A living world like the Witcher 3 have. Big, beautiful, lots of interesting places to explore, changing weather, day/night cycle, big cities and small villages. CDPR made that world come alive. I hope BW can do the same for DA4.

• Cinematic conversations needs to return. I want to see the persons facial expressions when I talk to them.

Seeing Fenris would be good and his voice actor is amazing. If there is anyone from the inquisition you can meet it will be Harding, she may even be a companion cause Solas doesn't know too much about her other than her being a good scout (you only really get to know her after he's gone). If not that, I can see her being there for the intro then leaving.

I would be very surprised if Harding isn't a companion. Especially since she's included in the Trespasser ending scene, even though she's not technically in the DLC. I would also be surprised if she wasn't a romanceable companion.

What would be hilarious is if she had a crisis moment like Bull or Cole, and we had to direct her to either embrace her role in the Inquisition or abandon it, for whatever reason. I <3 fan tears.

I seriously hope not. Those were one of the worst things about DAI for me. Very tedious.

I headcanon that a lot of the two years between killing Cory and Trespasser was spent having the Inquisitor go to the other countries affected by the Breach and closing the rifts there. Or else the rifts eventually faded once the Breach was closed...it just took a few months.

The Inquisitor and her/his Inquisition has probably spent the two years before Trepasser mopping up Southern Thedas of demons and rifts.

I think Merril would be a better fit than Fenris she's into elven stuff and I kinda don't want her to be a link even though she was my second favorite character of DA2 because she would likely be with Solas as a probable enemy and then we might have to kill Hawkes who romanced her to and it would be emotionally torturous.

I doubt they are. Trespasser spoilers don't read on if you don't want spoilers

In Tresspasser Solas takes the mark along with the better part of the inquisitors arm and Solas is friendly with spirits and says the rifts torture them so even if the inquisitor missed any Solas would ensure they closed.

From a Tevinter-Kirkwall perspective Fenris has a stronger connection. From a Tevinter-Solas connection Merrill is stronger. IMO

So what if in DA4, we have the Varric/concept art narrative intro, then right before we decide what race and what we look like, we choose what faction... Solas taking back Arlathan, Qunari invasion to heal Thedas, Thedas defending themselves. Like in DA:O but three different storylines. If this is the last of the series anyway, why not go all out and rock the DA Keep with totally different storylines. Solas faction- elf playable. Qunari faction and Thedas- all except elf.
Another thing that has crossed my mind if the surviving previous game character (Alistair/Loghain/Stroud or Hawke) goes to the Anderfels no matter what, could Hawke become a grey warden? His/Her brother and sister were able to, maybe he/she also has potential? She/He could also be a new companion and how heart-wrenching would it be for Hawke or one of the wardens to give a speech and kill one of the last two archdemons?
Also, if we did end up with choosing different factions at the beginning, we could also have much more diverse companions; such as different main companions for each faction. Some optional characters could appear to each faction and still make sense, like Zevran for instance(definitely not saying I want him in the game), he would have a stake in each line. But Rainier would only be in the defense of Thedas. If Iron Bull betrays you, he's with Qun. If he stays loyal, Thedas defense. Just a few thoughts...

I feel like some goofy kid that made his own superhero and sent it in to one of the companies and is waiting for a reply in the mail; but to admit it, I REALLY want a bioware forum surfer to see this post and consider it or any other of the really good ideas here for the next game. I think it could put our NEW protagonist in Tevinter and give very different and personal views for each side.

I don't doubt it's a very good game, though I've watched some Witcher 3 videos and didn't really care for what I saw.

But even if it's the better game, it's better for reasons that would require changing Dragon Age into something entirely different (the static protagonist, the set love interests, etc.)

Not entirely.

One of the things that makes TW3 a much better game than DA:I is the quality of the side quests. While TW3, like all RPGs, has its share of fetch quests...it has a much better ratio of story and character driven sidequests to lifeless filler than DA:I did. Many of the The Witcher 3's side quests are as rich with story or interesting characters as the main quests. I'd even argue that it is the primary reason why the TW3 is a better game.

Side quests should be the main area targeted improvement by the DA4 devs.

I'd like to see DA tone it back on the fantasy, but I think a few storylines need to wrap up first. The storylines I liked the most so far were the political ones rather than the mystical ones.

So... I don't exactly want to dredge up the whole argument again, but I can't really talk about what I'd love to see 4 doing without talking about the previous games first.

I enjoyed Inquisition in my first playthrough. I ended the game one-armed, loveless, enslaved to a greater power, and with all my family dead. I had a ball! I'm not even being sarcastic. I love the ability to roleplay a character's decisions and have them turn out to be awful ones. I like that if I make a choice then it has consequences. That's Dragon Age meat and potatoes.

But then I started a new character, went to romance someone else and choose different decisions and dialogue. I made it to Skyhold... and I realised that this nagging discomfort I was increasingly feeling was boredom. And I quitted out of this huge, beautiful game, and I loaded up Dragon Age 2.

What I missed in Inquisition was the story, and its players. Origins had a story as tight as Dorian's buttocks. There was nothing I did which felt extraneous to the mission; I never once felt like I was taking a break from the action, or doing something just to progress the story. The entire game was the story. That's the highest praise I could possibly give a RPG.

As for 2, while I'll be the first to acknowledge its many flaws, it was brilliant in how it integrated its characters into the plot. Not that the plot itself didn't have, er... holes (looking at you, Orsino) but it definitely knew how to storytell in that the characters and their actions and, crucially, their motives were the whole of the story. It didn't actually lessen my enjoyment that nothing Hawke did could stop certain things happening. I thought it played in an interesting way with the game's theme of freedom and personal choice. (Hawke's lack of personal motive is another day's tl;dr.)

What I felt Inquisition was desperately lacking was character-driven story. Corypheus could have been a fascinating character, just as the Architect was fascinating and complex. Instead, he felt like a plot device. The scary boogeyman who wants to destroy the world for ill-defined reasons that would benefit nobody, not even himself (why become a god if there's nobody left alive to be impressed?). Stupid evil at its finest.

Meanwhile, I loved every companion and advisor in Inquisition, and they were all fantastic characters, but none of them ever felt central to the story in the way that Varric or Anders were central to 2, or Morrigan and Alistair central to Origins. For all their massive life and personality, every companion other than Solas, Varric, and Cassandra could have been replaced with voiceless background NPCs with the same combat skills (or in Dorian's case, a well-placed plot object) and while the game would have been immeasurably less enjoyable, the story would still have worked out exactly the same.

Narrative-wise, a character's most important feature is their goal. A plot is the result of characters working to further their goals. And Inquisition lacked... a plot. It had the concept of a plot and tried to pad it with events rather than a narrative.

So as for I want the very most to see in 4, this is the thing, a combination of the best of Origins and 2: a story driven by its characters and their well-defined personalities and motives-- villains, protagonists, and player character alike.

I really want to see DA4 not spread itself so thin on huge maps and many sidequests that it can no longer focus on a tight, driven narrative. I understand that realistically there are sacrifices to be made between narrative and open-endedness, and between story and gameplay, but, well-- Dragon Age 2 reused its environments to death, I detest its art style, it's buggy, and the combat is badly balanced, but when faced with the prospect of another beautifully landscaped, exquisitely rendered, well-balanced playthrough of Inquisition compared to the characters, stories, and sheer indefinable heart of 2 and Origins, I went right back over there.

...On the other hand, I actually like and applaud what Inquisition did to balance combat. No class or specialisation is unplayable without metagaming on Nightmare (I've tried). I really thoroughly approve of that and appreciate it. Also, it sure is pretty

[...]

• The option to be evil, self serving like in Jade Empire and KOTOR.

Look at me double-posting like a complete ass, but you make a really great point that I left out and that I totally agree with. The Inquisitor is so awfully, utterly bland, I can't so much as dislike them. My Dragonborn in Skyrim did nothing but roam the countryside picking flowers and murdering bandits, and despite the Inquisitor's wheel o' dialogue icons and full voice acting the Dragonborn was less milquetoast than her. I felt kind of bad for her when Hawke turned up in my game and snarky Jo Wyatt made Inky sound like a talking cardboard cutout in about four lines.

I'm not even suggesting it's the fault of the Inquisitor's VAs-- I think the Inquisitor's dialogue itself is the problem. It falls flat on its own purpose, with each wheel selection conveying practically nothing about the personality options they're supposed to represent. In trying to be a self-insert, it fails to convince me that the Inquisitor is a living breathing person rather than a player character in a game and when heard next to the excellently written and delivered companions, often either makes me feel like the most boring character in the group or breaks my suspension of disbelief altogether. And though Envy taunts you with visions of a terrible future in which power and paranoia have corrupted you utterly, there's nothing in the game that lets you do that in order to give avoiding it (or, well, not) any dramatic gravitas.

One thing I really admired in Origins is that while you could easily skip them, its side-quests would very often set up small moments to establish your Warden's character. That made them feel worth the effort. When Zerlinda asks you for help with her baby and you can choose to reconcile her with her family, send her topside, or make her leave the baby to die, that's a great little moment to reinforce what kind of person the Warden is and what their worldview and priorities are. Meanwhile, in Inquisition, some old guy can't leave flowers on his wife's grave, and you can... do the quest, or quit out the conversation. You even say a prayer to Falon'Din at the end no matter your Inquisitor's own views on elves and the Evanuris. I feel like Origins would have at least given the player the option to vandalise the grave or something.

I'd love to see a return in 4 of those moments to establish the player character's personality, or just of the personality tracker to make the auto-dialogue more consistent.

Go back to player controlled mechanics within the character screen. Let me decide where those points from leveling up go. Give me back control of my characters. If not the entire cast then at least let me fully control the hero/ine in that regard.

also stat requirement armor and not Class required armor, hell not even race required armor.

I'd love to see a return in 4 of those moments to establish the player character's personality, or just of the personality tracker to make the auto-dialogue more consistent.

Agreed, I've said as much on the nature of the IQ's blandness. It's about lack of options and agency rather than the actual dialogue or tone. In most instances in DAI we have the option to accept a sidequest or walk away from it. We can't even decline the quest, it just goes uncompleted in our journal. And the sidequests don't have multiple methods of completion/failure, so one playthrough explores most of the content for anything outside of the main quest line and companion quests.

This means that a gruff Carta thief has basically the same attitude to placing flowers on a grave/picking up a package/luring a dragon to the desert as a spoiled human noble. And the majority of side quests end without dialogue, just the notice that the quest has been completed. Neither the PC nor the quest giver has a reaction to finishing the quest. Which I guess isn't important since the quest is performed in the same method each time.
