-More compact, focused story.
-More difficult choices à la Origins (but without the stupid "solve everything perfectly" third options).
-Quality over quantity in general, especially in regard to sidequests and characters.

I adored DAI and I thought it was a fantastic starting point for a technically modern DA. Saying that, there's a few things I would truly love to see in the next installment;
1. Better hair. Just to further emphasize. xD (I'd really like to see the original Alistair type come back, as well as some nice short masculine male types.)
2. Two Campaigns. One with Inquisitor + Handful of Inner circle allies dealing with their own half of the story and consequences from DAI choices (wardens/templars/mages, the well, the abyss, trespasser and finding a protege). The second following a young, new avatar working for the Inquisition and gathering his own team and dealing with new story, relationships, romance, villains etc. I think story wise, each campaign being the length of the main chapters in DAI's base game feels perfect. A short DLC Hawke campaign would blow my mind clean open if I'm really cutting loose on this wish list.
3. I don't think we NEED to be able to set all abilities to the action bars (it really only benefits PC users and AI controlled allies.) but I think 12 instead of 8 is a really good number if we could maybe shuffle through pallets and have the focus ability be off the skill set and activated much like trespassers special ability, L3+R3.
4. Tactics camera mode in DAI was perfect. Tactics menu customization is definitely missed by a lot of people and I think they enjoy customizing AI builds just as much as combat builds. It reduces stress in combat and feels very rewarding.
5. Romance wise, as much as I appreciated Iron Bull, it was a shame that the entire romance was kind of a joke option with no way to opt out of the BDSM and still have him as a partner. I'd also like the romance partner giving you more unique dialogue when you talk to them frequently, take them in to combat or take them to story scenes. It should be heavier and more involved if you pursue it as opposed to a handful of dialogues and 2-3 cut scenes. I'd like to see some things shaken up too, like making the knight chantry boy type a male romance for once (Alistair, Cullen, Sebastian.)
6. The spells and abilities are great but things i'd want to see going forward would be a couple of healing, water and wind spells. A fist fighter option would be great for melee too, some kind of brawler. I think boss fights should have more gimmicks like the Ferelden Frostback in DAI and its add waves.
1. better hair options
2. more customization options for our character (if you add new hairs etc. let us change look of our inquisitor)
3. give us female qunari companion (and make her more interesting than bull)
4. if we will create new army (after we choose to leave inquisition) let us at last choose what type of armor/weapon etc. they will use (remember when Bioware said that we will need to choose if we use resources to upgrade armors etc. for our soldiers or create new weapon for companion before they cut it our?)
5. make more bigger maps where we could use boats/rafts etc. not just horse + add some customization to it (infamous horse armor)
6. make our romance matter, have our loved ones follow us when w travel somewhere with diplomatic mission/let them be kidnapped or maybe even almost killed in front of us to motivate us to fight/revenge more ruthless.
7. if we romance new divine and our character was badly injured let us see that divine disappear and let us see she care about us and appear there even if for short movie
8. more consequences, if I choose to kill someone let me see that his family/mercenary group try to hunt me etc.
9. let us kill Solas in some ruthless way, maybe he help us at the end but it's not enough to forgive him
10. make spells more powerful & bring blood magic
11. more big cities - let us feel we enter capitol not just some small town/village (looking at you Val Royeaux)
12. if we get another castle like Skyhold - please let us have more customize options :
- let us choose different flags everywhere,
- let us mix throne room styles,
- let us hang head of dragon (or other animals) on the wall,
- If you play as elf let us bring more Elves to it, maybe I want Elf archers on the wall,
- let me choose different style for whole castle (maybe I want to make it look more dark/evil or add more towers)
- let us have dragon/griffons (don't forget that you bring them back)
- if you give us treasure room let us see guards there/open close door etc.
- let us upgrade prison
- and for god sake if castle have hole, let me fix it
13. more customization to armors - if I play as female rogue let me look like one (let us have skirts with armors etc.)
14. more better loot from bosses, more hidden rooms/passages with loot
15. If our new home will stay empty for hundreds of years, let me see it by how its destroyed or become home for some monsters/evil than will kill/make people disappear from it until you find its hidden lair
16. better body for Elves ... I want my elf female to look more better
17. black emporium from begin
18. If we again rise to power, please let us feel I have it, not just pretend to us about it
19. (look up) give us more choices/let us make example - maybe let us destroy that village because they helped Solas etc.
20. let us meet with character like Valya, Bethany, Tallis, Fenris (if we sold him back or not), Sebastian (maybe let us kill him) etc.
21. Oh and more mature content - who is offended by nudity in games when you have it everywhere
that's all for now
I enjoyed the variety of companions in all three games. Obviously, I liked some better than others. In each, some were with you the entire game, others you gathered along the way. Unless you did something really heinous or specifically asked them to go, they stayed with you to the end. What if we, as in Bioware, changed it up a bit. What if these companions are only with you in designated areas unless certain conditions are met?
In DAI you have several different areas you can visit and explore so I'll use it in my explanation - referring to the geography, not story. In some of these areas you meet somebody who can be a companion. Go to the Hinterlands and meet a scout, let's call her Lacey, who is looking for something/someone. While you are on her 'turf' she is willing to accompany you, banter with you and anybody else, but she's not immediately convinced to put her goals aside in order to go with you elsewhere. You have to earn enough of her trust/approval/friendship before that can happen. Love is not enough to make her leave.
You could even offer to help Lacey in her quest, but this is a big decision because it won't be as simple as deliver this or battle one group of baddies. Her 'mission' will have multiple steps before she is done. On the plus side, if you haven't ticked her off she is free to go with you. If she comes with you but you tick her off, she can return to her 'home area.' Whether she helps you out when you return to the Hinterlands depends on how badly you parted.
I'm not saying every companion, but a few could be like that. Maybe even a couple that will never leave their home area.
And maybe you could alienate all your companions so that you are alone at the end, though some would take a heck of a lot of alienating before they leave. You might end up on the same side and fighting the same baddie in the end, but they won't be part of your party.
Just a thought or two.
Id like to play as one race. That way we can have a lot more interesting content.
Playing as an elf, dwarf or qunari is interesting content, for some of us.
This may have been mentioned, but I would really like to see a specific type of companion.
Throughout the Dragon Age Franchise we have seen many Andrastian Chantry religious people,
some very interesting ones with depth and intelligence such as mother Giselle, some annoying and
horrible such as sister Petrice, some downright annoyingly moral such as Wynne. The entire impact
and philosophy of the canticles is clear and a major theme throughout the human civilisations. Naturally,
if the game is to be set in Tevinter, the whole Chantry philosophy will be different, and give a lot to explore
and I can only assume that there will be very religious Tevinters to talk to, to dive into the depths of the
differences between the north and south.
In Origins, there was the option to play as a Dalish elf, a character which supposedly grew up
with a completely different set of religious rites and stories. In that game, I have always felt that, though the
majority of the team was Andrastian, none of the elven characters were particularly faithful. There
was a fair amount of Clan culture in the game, but there wasn't much attention to Dalish Religion. The gods
were mentioned but nowhere did we see the actual rites and philosophies that are supposedly entwined in the
religious part of Dalish culture. This has so far only been elaborated in the codex entries.
In Kirkwall there was Merrill, who showed that the Dalish have a different view on magic entirely, regarding blood
magic as a means to an end and common amongst keepers (though Merrill took it quite far). However, throughout
the franchise, we have never had a real Dalish Religious character. For that reason, I would like to see a companion,
perhaps just for a part of the game: a hunter.
In Tevinter, the fate of the clans is more dire than anywhere else, considering the practice of slavery. For that
reason I would imagine it logical that some of the Dalish of the north would hold close to their rites and practices,
even more so than the southern elves. In addition, Tevinter is supposedly full of ancient elvehn ruins and lore,
things that the clans would desperately cling to. The coming of an elven rebellion (as hinted at in the Slightest
tavern song in trespasser) would throw the clans in turmoil. Many younger Dalish would go to join, with some
elders desperately trying to keep their clan together even though it is falling apart.
Now, this would serve as a perfect background for a middle-aged elf (why were most of the Inquisition characters
so young anyway? What was wrong with the elderly lady for a party member, someone like Wynne?) who has
no desire to join a rebellion he is not convinced will succeed, nor believes has the best in mind for the culture of
his people. He would also be cautious towards the change Solas intends to bring.
Though we know the whole elvehn religion surrounding the evanuris is flawed and misinterpreted, to him that should
not be important. The more important thing would be that it held his people together, through all they have been
through and more. The whole point of the character would be to discuss the meaning of religion, rather than its
accuracy. I would especially look forward to showing such a character how flawed his beliefs are, and still see him
cling to them because of the sentimental meaning of his stories and the morals he would wish everyone to take to
heart.
I would choose this person to be male, as he embodies a complete opposite to Solas' plans. This would be a person
that does not cling to the past or tries to restore it, does not seek to rebuild, but instead tries to bring his people to
a new greatness by building anew, looking to the future with the morals and culture that they have, by seeking new
wisdom in the old tales, and use them for the future. The whole reason the Dalish seek the old lore should not be to
learn what was lost, but to define what they are right now. It would have to be a hunter for this same reason, and not
a keeper, as a keeper would inately be too focussed on the past and not directed towards the future.
The embodiment of the elves as they are now, looking to become better at what they are through learning from the
past rather than by restoring themselves to what they were, I can only see this working through a slightly jaded
hunter that faithfully calls for Andruils blessings before battle, invokes Dirthamen's wisdom when faced with a difficult
decision, that asks for Mythal's mercy when faced with injustice and can be seen performing rites and singing prayers
to illustrate the current state of the Elvehn culture in stark contrast to how the Inquisition game so carefully showed us
what ancient Elvehn society must have been like.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts. I suppose there are many who would rather not see this happen, (friggin' elves, man!)
but I feel this would be a good opportunity to contrast the plans of elven rebellion, not to mention Solas' whole "restore the
elves that were" plan which, let's face it, is all kinds of nope.
Kind regards,
Lev
==== EDIT ====
PurpleScrap, Awesome idea, I really believe that that could work. Would give these NPC's a depth and feeling to them through
the home they originate from and by making the player work for their approval and even joining, would make an end battle
even more sweet. I wholly support your idea.
I think DA4 is finally the time we have a female Qunari teammate. Also, all the female qunari should be about a million times better looking, more like the art and such than what we actually saw in DAI. I really enjoyed the Hinterlands, I think everybody loved it, I definitely want another area like that, so amazing, they need to use the same guy who was in charge of that area and put him in charge of another huge one for the next game, that'll be awesome. I'd like something like what we almost had in DAI, a fully customizable/upgradable fortress/home base. I want to see a lot more of the Deep Roads, they're always really great when you don't have to be there too long at one time
. I'd like to meet some more of Flemeth's daughters, Morrigan should have some sisters out there somewhere! More Leliana, I don't care what she's doing, I just want to be doing it with her. More exploration, I want to visit Tevinter and really see the sights, not like with finally getting to visit Orlais and instead of finding a huge city with beautiful sights, it was a tiny little area where you could buy stuff and that was about it. Big and grand and beautiful sights! And also, let's have more female teammates, why does it have to be a 2-1 ratio of male teammates to female teammates, and way more male LIs than female LIs? That's so completely backwards, let's turn that around. I could go on and on, but that's a pretty good list. Very much looking forward to DA4!
7. The "chore table" must go, or be streamlined
I think it'd work if some of the side quests were either you choose to play them, or you send one of your subordinates through the war table. I feel like this would allow for you to play all of them if you want, or enable them to get done without having to fetch everything, or you could just not use it at all if you didn't want to.
it occurred to me a few days ago that having a game in the time of the ancient elves would be bloody fantastic. unlikely but amazing. i would love to see what actually happened with the elven "gods", a world without the veil, and how Solas built it.

Yes, I would like to learn more about Solas' past to understand him better... novel or even a game focusing on the events that led to Solas creating the Veil would be awesome.
