Playing ME2, on Horizon trying to hack the computer so I can communicate with EDI and move the story forward. I have never been able to successfully hack any computer in ME2 thus far! I'm frustrated like crazy..just stuck on this stage.
Any advice? I'm desperate...

You have to find the matching picture in the stream of pictures. The one you need to find is at the top.

Thanks for your response..I do realize that aspect but I just can't ever seem to manage that for some reason. I have a huge plasma screen, my XBOX settings for display are on the proper setting, and I am not blind LOL. So I'm getting beyond frustrated. I feel I've missed out of so much of this game already having skipped all of the other opportunities to hack and this is just the cherry on top :\\

is it the one with the scrolling paragraphs or the circles with symbols?

for the paragraphs, you have to match up - without touching any of the red boxes - the selection that matches the one in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. on the pc this is a little easier because the detail is small, but it's do-able.

the circles/symbols minigame is basically just memory; you have to connect the two matching symbols. the way i like to do it , i quickly roll over everything to see where certain symbols are and then start connecting them. you can't reveal the symbol once you've hit one of the buttons, so it's important to make sure you know where everything is before you start connecting them.

my explanations might not be the best ever! if you have any questions, let me know. it's a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it they're kinda fun!

The circles 'memory' game is super easy. I do that readily. I can't manage to do the scroll down and pick the right paragraph thing. The thing is..I'm even an avid reader IRL and have a freaking Kindle reader.. I'm USED to reading text rapidly. This is pattern recognition..but I cannot for the life of my precious Shepard get it right!

I had the same problem.....could not figure out how to get hacking working at all, and practically gave up on it. But....I eventually got a method for it. First, I think back at one of the shops on Omega there was a hacking tool you could buy. If you haven't, get it. It slows down the counter for hacking, makes it easier.

Ok. On the top middle of the screen is the example of the code you are supposed to look for. What works for me is to identify (before starting the hack) some characteristic of that code that I can look for quickly. For example...what color starts it off....purple, white, green? Is it a big chunk of code or a small one. Is there a big chunk of code somewhere below, or does it instead have a lot of whitespace and braces. So instead of trying to get everything matched, I'm just looking for "start orange, followed by big white, followed by one line blue" Once you get that in your mind, start the hack.

I'm sure you know the details of how to hack (use controller to move highlight to different boxes, press button to select code segment, avoid the red X boxes), so I won't go way into them unless that is where you're having issue. I move the highlight to a box that has that initial pattern, then do a quick compare of what I see highlighted to what I see on the top of the screen.

You'll have to do the same thing two more times.....once you select the first section correctly, it will put a second segment of code in the upper middle, and you need to do the same thing again...look for some kind of characteristic that is unique about that code, and then use that characteristic to identify the code in one of the boxes on the main window.

I'm blind as hell and it bothers me. Still, I manage to make money well enough.

Just practice- save before you have to hack.

Ok I must be an idiot too because I can't get it to work and I know what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm playing on pc and I can't get that green box to move no matter what key or mouse button I use. I've tried everything.

For PC's use the wsad keys to move the green boxes. When you've found a matching box, hit <space bar> and the timer will reset and you will get a new text pattern to try and match.

Good luck! :)

Took me a little while to figure it out, too. I was just randomly selecting things in my first attempt, then I noticed the box at the top-left and I twigged it.

I find the easist way is to concentrate on the first 3 lines. Say, for example, you got the following:

eewrewrwrewerhiohfreerewtrewtret
           sdfdsfsdfdsfdsfsdfds
werwerewrewrgfdfgfd

Then you'd look for the corresponding line pattern. A quick check of the rest of the pattern, once you've located the first three lines, should verify you have the right choice. tis simple pattern recognition, some people are just better at it than others.

This.

I do the exact same thing. After a few times you'll start to instinctively recognize patterns. There are really only 6-8 different combinations in total, with only 2 of them being very similar except for the last line being blue or green.

Eventually you'll get to a point where you're actually waiting for the random number generator to pop the one you're looking for.

People seriously have problems with hacking?

Ok, well as was stated before, make sure you buy the upgrade that extends your timer, that does help. Also, the very first sequence is usually right where you start, or one of the boxes adjacent to the starting one. (at least the vast majority of the time).

And also i hope everyone realizes that you get 3 different sequences, so you start with one, find that particular pattern, then you get another pattern, find that one, and then you get your third final one which you have to find.

If you go over the red box on your first pattern, its an automatic fail. If you have 1 or 2 patterns and you go over a red box, it simply resets the pattern you are on, and you have 3 attempts.
