(...some kid is dreaming, and we're all stuck inside his wacky Broadway nightmare?)
No really.
I kind of had a very loose theory I wanted to run by those at all interested in random theories. This one's about the elves, the dwarves, the fade, lyrium, the veil, titans...well I guess there's a little bit of everything.
First things.
This theory doesn't take into account the blight. Where it came from, who started it, what it was used for. I have a few basic ideas but my first thought is that the blight predates the Magisters entering the golden city. I don't buy it.
Okay, so.
I. The Forgotten Ones Are Dwarven "Gods"
My theory suggests that the Forgotten ones are the dwarven equivalents of the elvish pantheon. They protected the Titans and the lyrium supply that they had access to. In the forgotten thaig, they found idols, so the dwarves must have worshiped/exalted something/someone other than the Stone. This suggests to me that the Forgotten ones are those who were defacto "leaders" of dwarven society.
I suggest that the elves and the dwarves had a chill but cordial relationship.
II. The Evanuris Want Power
My suggestion is that the elvish mages, who considered themselves godly, sought even more raw power- power they could tap into by using the lyrium that the dwarves had control over. This would account for the codex we find about them hunting the "pillars of the earth". I suggest that they desperately wanted to take over the Titans, control them, to use the raw lyrium to become even more powerful than they already were. This began a desperate struggle and war between the elvish "gods" and the dwarven "gods".
III. Enter Solas
Solas is clearly powerful in his own right. He was powerful enough to lead a rebellion, to face a whole giant handful of powerful mages by himself after Mythal died. When he learned what the Evanuris was planning, he only had one option. Perhaps he was as well known by the forgotten ones- perhaps he had used the dwarves in the past who may have been sympathetic to his cause. So, up goes the veil, locking the Evanuris in the fade, and "protecting" the Titans and the lyrium supply in the "void" (the earth).
Unfortunately, he could have never foresaw the consequences, not just for the elves, but for the dwarves. The veil being formed cut off the fade from the lyrium, and somehow severed the dwarves from their own abilities. I'm not clear on all this part yet. It's a working theory, really.
They are called the forgotten ones because they have been forgotten by the dwarves. Erased from the memories.
Anyway, I want to say about the blight- I wonder if the plan was to use it as a weapon. Maybe the dwarves themselves infected it? Maybe they poisoned a small part of the lyrium on purpose- to keep it from the elves, and it backfired? Turned them into dragons? This part is less clear. Would welcome ideas and thoughts.
