How would you react if the team working on ME:A confirmed only two romances for the game?

One is an Asari who can be romanced by straight dudes and gay women, and the other is a Human Male who's Bi. The catch is less quantity, more quality. The actual romance you can have with these characters would be very relevant to the plot, the way Bastila Shan was for example. Instead of going to talk to a Party Member you have the hots for in between missions to "Flirt, Flirt, Flirt, Initiate Romance, Flirt, Sex, Paramour Achievement", you have a relationship with this character that grows naturally over the course of the story, and your love for each other plays an important part in the narrative.

How would you feel if they took this approach, instead of making of variety of different romance options to appease as many people as possible, but have the romances be less relevant to the plot?

Sucks to be a straight guy I guess, since there wouldn't actually be a woman to romance.  Hopefully you wouldn't have to file a restraining order to keep out of a relationship with her like with Liara in ME1. ;)

But since the game is meant to be scifi action / rpg and not a romance simulator, this would not disappoint me as much as other potential design and narrative decisions.

All this said, I am not concerned that Bioware will go this direction.  Maybe space Morrigan will show up. :)

It might not necessarily be a bad thing.

Fewer characters potentially means more content and more work going into fleshing out that character's romance arc.

On the other hand, it would suck if you just don't like that character.

There are pluses and minuses to going either route.

I don't romance aliens so the asari is a no go. If the human male is interesting enough I might.

Wouldn't be the end of the world, but two aren't enough, I think. And ME1's three was an odd number in both senses, considering Liara was that third choice.

I think shooting for four would be a good idea, either all bi or 2/2, and prioritize making sure they've each got extensive and/or plot relevant content (doesn't need to tie into the main quest, but it should hopefully have something more meaty than most of the romances we've gotten).

I would actually be a bit bored about having a human male to romance. Garrus ruined me. I'd prefer an alien romance. The guy must really be an interesting character, and NOT have inavoidable drama (since it is always only male LI that have always the short end of the stick)

And I think it would mean only one run, max two for me (hardly. I must be one of the few people who don't love that much the Asari. And a Liara repeat would not really be of my taste, with how much the devs tried to put her on my back in the first trilogy), since I like to make different run with each time a different romance.

Not a big problem, but I would probably be very careful if I want to buy the game full price/day 1 (I still have to see something that have me want to preorder, since I wasn't very happy with ME3 romances and endings), since I value a lot replayability.

Not a problem, ovewer, since BioWare want to give at least two romance for each-gay, lesbian, ethero man and woman-. outside of it, depending on the characters/companion in the game, and if the writers find the character worty/like to write the romance/have time and resources there can be some plus.

I'm actually in support of having four Bi/pan love interests, two humans and two aliens.  I know some might take an issue with this, but it allows our protagonists to choose the LI we like best, without being held back by certain predetermined barriers.  At the same time, it also provides Bioware and we players the opportunity to indulge in matters of Choice, by making certain missions only available to us if we romance one person, and not the others.

Is the scenario realistic?  That is incredibly debatable.

Is it game-y?  Yes, maybe, but...you know...it is a game.

Having a choice of only two wouldn't ruin the game for me, and I could accept it, but it would leave me a little disappointed.  But I'd get over it.

Human and Asari? Like ME1 (before BW went completely overboard with fan service)?

I'd be elated.

For me it depends on how many potential LIs there are. If there are only two, one of each gender, than both should be bi so that no player is entirely locked out of options by their player character choice. If the game goes the DA:I route however and has eight, there are enough choices that I think would make much more sense to have them gated in various ways.

ME1 had 3 right? Kaidan, Ashley, and Liara were the only romances in that game.

I'd think it's a great idea. Better 2 well developed romances than 10 weak ones.

I like the idea of less romances so they can focus and give more resources and depth to the options they give us (at the end of the trilogy would between 6 as you put or twelve as i wish for each game 4 love interest). And i know there are a lot of people that doesn't like romance but that give us for most of us(humans) a connection to the main character, to see her/him as anyone of us.

Relevant to the plot? depending on our actions if what we (our new main character) make or take some decisions against the believes of our love interest, make them go separate  ways or try to stop us. At the end wouldn't be so relevant for the outcome of the main story, because bioware will give us the options to stop our companion.

And please, if the developers heard or receive info about what is talk in the forums, blue kids this time, please.

Less 'quota-filling'. More 'fulfilling'. Be it romance or general companion count.

The less they focus on 'diversity of cast' the more they can focus on quality of cast. A tighter-knit squad is much better than a large cast of characters where you might talk to maybe one or two of them and maybe want to throw another out the airlock.

Bioware did a good job in Mass Effect in this regard so I see no reason to worry or a reason for BIoware to change their current strategy. I'd prefer up to six total squadmates per game as I tend to ignore the rest of the group after that number's reached (Who is this Jacob person again? Samara who? Oh, right, Space Paladin. Now where's Zaeed and Grunt we have to shoot stuff.). . .but if we get another Liara I'm jumping ship to a game with Dinosaurs. . .unless Mass Effect Andromeda gives us Space T-Rexes with biotic charge and nova then they're forgiven. . .but only if I can shoot them. (T-rex and Liara-clone.)

BioWare, make them happen! Lots of them. There need to be so many we need to throw some other crewmembers out the airlock:

Two? God, no. I wouldn't touch an Asari even with a ten foot pole and that would leave only one single romance in the whole game. What a horrid thought. Besides, I want to romance either turian or a drell.

I've always been an advocate of fewer total LIs, so long as they're not gender / species / orientation gated.

I do think people would be more likely to be satisfied if they had a bit more choice, though. And then you have some who reject aliens outright where others really want alien LIs.

So - how about: 1 asari, 1 human female, 1 human male, 1 drell or turian male, all available to protags of either gender?

Not that we're doing quotas or anything... lol.
