My advice? Don't.
Any tips on using Talon Merc?

Here's my build, low shields so you gotta keep on the move but can deal some decent damage:

As if lobbies were not infested enough with op sh@t.
Makes you wonder: Zaeed was a true veteran, fought a Krogan Warlord barehanded ffs, he was loyal to his Betsy, he was my wingman and I always listened to his (colorful) stories involving Batarian slavers. Best character ever. And in the end Biovar honors him with this.
Yeah, airlock. Soooo much airlock.

Talon merc makes a perfect shuttlebay guard with those trip mines he has.

The Talon Merc is designed to survive, I give him the M7 and Executioner Pistol. I lay Tripwire just as a warning. The Arrows I think are useless. But he is a good player if you play him on the lower Solo difficulties.

The best thing about this forum software is that you can ignore individual sigs.

Having recently completed my first 200 waves with this character, I still have a few questions:
How do concussive arrows interact with the Phantom bubble? In practice it was very inconsistent; sometimes the arrows would plink harmlessly against the bubble, and other times they would send the phantom (and her bubble) flying.
How does one use Cain mines effectively? In general I avoided mine spamming (although I did get into the habit of using mine spam in situations where any other kit would have used a missile). Using them as actual trip mines seemed underwhelming. Mining likely spawn points in between waves was somewhat effective.

Argent is an expert on the talon. She'd be IMO the best candidate to share tips. I believe she created a thread on the talon a while back.

Here's how you play the Talon.
Step 1: Spec into all damage passives and Cain Mines.
Step B: Ignore your other powers, they're not needed!
Part III: Grenade capacity
Segment Quatro: When you see an enemy, throw four Cain Mines at its feet
Repeat as needed. U wel b uber hadbass m8

That's all you'll ever need for him. I'd add a phasic venom to deal with mooks to avoid wasting a mine on a cannibal

Hm. A lot of people seem to really hate this guy. I thought he was alright overall, though very vulnerable to lag.

Quite the opposite I'd say : If you don't play the arrows you just can spam 1 button, and lag or not something will end up walking in your mine ! It's my favourite shitty host buid. ![]()

The only thing that sucks about him is that you can't grab enemies. Well, you could... but I don't feel like fixing my keyboard settings each and every time. This is why he only gets one type of arrow, too.

Glitch him. If that doesn't work, airlock.

This how I play him.
I still have one button to rule them all, but it's the melee button. I usually get rid of mooks/elite mooks with my Conc Arrows and leave the Cain Mines for bosses/armored troops. If anything gets in close, you'd be surprised at how often the Disciple stagger actually helps you out. Once you get your bonuses going with his Omni-Bow though, you don't really need anything else though. The auto-aiming feature of it can be a good or bad thing, depending on circumstances.
Full disclosure though, I have a grand total of 20 waves played with him, so I'm not claiming to be an expert. Also, I played him on-host both times so not sure how much that impacts his viability.

Yeah, having to go in and manually rearrange the keybindings is a pain in the ass. I save myself $$ from having to buy new keyboards and just don't play him.
Glitch him.
Too OP.

If there ever were an argument for 6/6/6/6/6ing a character, it's the talon merc. Concussion arrows are just too specific and mediocre otherwise.
If you take a projectile weapon, you can stagger phantoms prior to using your arrows, and kill them promptly.
Finally, there are certain locations on certain maps where you can get into hard cover and fire, at which point your arrows will fire straight out at the orientation the hard cover is facing; functionally, this means that if you can target the enemy, you can hit them by curving the arrows out even though you're completely in both hard and soft cover. On Condor, for example, if you have a talon merc guarding both sides of the top, you can stay in hard cover indefinitely and kill almost anything before it can even see you.
The only challenge is Praetorians, since they're pretty much invulnerable to anything you can do unless you run right up to them. Praetorians are annoying.
Oh, also, arrows home in on enemies nearby even if you didn't have them targeted to start with, so you can fire from all the way across the map and still hit them without any difficulties. On Firebase London, I've stood in the center of the map and killed every single geth that spawned before it was even close enough to target me up to wave 7-8, with no assistance from my teammates.
Yeah, the dude just wrecks geth in general. Just annihilates them. No bubbles of denial, lots of armor, squishy squishy.

If you glitch the Talon Merc to 6/6/6/6/6, you will have to fix the keybindings to play him. If you skip one of the arrows, you don't. So in this case, skipping concussion arrows is better than glitching him, at least to me. ![]()
