There's some good sub-topics in this thread, here are my thoughts on:
Mic vs. No-Mic: I think mics are generally good, but it can get awkward. I've found console text chat in lobby and PTT mic in game as a good compromise. Probably the best reason to use a mic in a PUG is for missile conservation / deconfliction for spawn-nuking and targets, but with so many score-hungry players out there, it can be a moot point.
Kill Stealing: This is a non-issue, with one exception. People who get butthurt about getting kills that they've allegedly "claimed" credited to others, really need to just get over this. In the end you should just want things to die as fast as possible, so who cares who gets credit. The exception is melee krogans (especially the warlord) and vorchas. They need their kills for survivability - but this problem is easily addressed, just don't target the same mooks as the vorchas and melee krogans on your team.
On judging teammates based on kit/loadout: Common sense dictates. Their loadout should convey their playstyle. Choice to use a common weapon is not indicative of experience (unless it is not at X). IMO, for platinum games, choice of gear is a really good indicator of a player's experience level. AC5 (and Geth Scanner to a lesser extent) is usually not taken by inexperienced players, for example.
On scoreboarding/not doing objectives/not reviving: This is not always a bad thing. I am not going to revive a DOA player unless they are in my direct AO and I'm not in the line of fire. I don't like getting 15 revive medals, but I still get them every now and then. Experienced players may not be doing the objective in an effort to draw aggro away from the objective. This can be very effective on plat. You should be able to tell if their intention is to draw aggro (grinding) vs. running up their personal score (nuking). Scoreboarding/spawn nuking is fun. You should try it sometime. Just make sure you save a couple nukes for wave 10 targets/devices!
On rage quitting: If it is U/U/P and we get Geth/Condor, I'm going to rage quit. Just being honest. I will also rage quit if I get sync'd on wave 1 and have time to finish a beer before my teammates clear the wave.
