How would you react if there were only 8 romance options in the game?

But out of all those options only 2 of them were for straight males, one of them a Krogan woman, the other a human commonly mistaken for a Krogan woman, the rest are all reserved for gay men and straight women?

Why don't lesbian women get any options, that's quite sad :(

I'd lament my character's inability to raid the liquor cabinet, because apparently getting ripped on ryncol is no longer allowed in the MEU.

Don't forget the emergency induction straw port.

8 Romance options? I'd take a dump on the game disc (regardless of their sexuality). If the majority of them were one-off trysts, I'd be all for it.

I'd be down, if one of those straight women romances was a super buff Man-bot named 'Dick Blaster' and his gun was located- well, you get the joke.

P.S. Romancing him is a Game Over due to a misfire.

My man Shep was chasing after Tali all the way back in ME1 so having to make due with Liara till ME2 wasn't ideal but I've endured the bare bones 2 LI options so this isn't a big issue in my opinion. Also when can we get a LI that does open relationships?

I'd say bring it on.

I obviously dig myself a neat lesbian show and the roleplayer in me LOVES to explore other stuff (gay, interspecies, polygamy, doesn't matter, give me your best shot). I'm pretty sure I'm a cisgendered, white, straight patriarchic shitlord, but hot damn of Dorian's butt isn't magnificient. Them tevinter Valleys, bro!

Now, gay sex with a transgendered Krogan and a tentacle-fetish Hanar, you just bloody sold a game!

Eight is too much... I think. If I don't like any of the romances I will probably say they should have made more...

Well NPC romances are quite possible, cause ME3 and DAI both had those ^^

Have they revealed the number of companions in the game? Or is that a guess based on previous games?

Weren't there 8 romances in Inquisition? Surely the fact that this whole thread is a sort of non subtle jab at the romances in Inquisition did not go over peoples heads did it?

"Like in the previous Mass Effect franchises, the main character of Mass Effect 4: Andromeda will still control his own ship, which is named the "Tempest." The ship will house seven people who each has their own loyalty missions, the report details."

As long as each romance option feels substantial and not a waste. I dislike how in any BIoware game unlike ME2 you can't at any point go in and say "I wanna break up" because you might pick a really half-assed romance option you think is good but then realize too late that there's no way out of it, and the playthrough feels worse for it.

Not to offend gay people, but I watched a playthrough in which a dude picks Cortez for fun just to try and be gay even though he isn't in RL but then realizes too late that he can't get out of it, and that's on a blind playthrough... just as an example of getting an unsatisfactory decision made that realistically you'd be able to get out of, but in the game you can't.

As for DA:I I feel the only worthy romances are Solas and Cassandra (and somewhat Cullen) but the rest are just strictly every-day romance-arcs that don't really add to the story itself (IMO) and I'm getting very tired of Bioware making romance simulators and not using Romance as a means for immersion and adding depth to the story itself -- possibly for character-development for protag. (of course it has to be optional)

I felt ME1 did it well, and DA:O also had some substantial ones, but I didn't feel it with ME2 or DA2. ME3 and DA:I have some that feel great but has a larger amount of ones that don't ultimately pay off IMO. (there's just not enough scenes or relationship to it)

Never played Inquisition. Atleast not beyond the free trial. I am not going to pay for walking around with WQSE and having to use A&D instead of a mouse. So, yes it did go over my head.

Since 90% of my characters are female, bring it. My gender as the player has no bearing at all when I am role playing.

I guess the key thing there is the fact that it's optional. Immersion is one of those little things that, like pharmaceutical products, varies from person to person. Like, I truthfully see no meaningful difference in terms of "immersion" between a character who is more greatly affected by the main plot, as opposed to one whose relationship with the protagonist may only really be affected by that character's personal story. An example of this would be Leliana, whose personal story is entirely separate from the main quest altogether. But then that's sort of how it goes when a character can be skipped entirely.

I felt ME1 did it well, and DA:O also had some substantial ones, but I didn't feel it with ME2 or DA2

I would actually disagree that ME1 actually did romance particularly well. Aside from the romance dialogue being pretty wooden and easily some of the most cringeworthy in the entire series, perhaps even between all ME and DA games, there doesn't really feel like there's any buildup of Shepard's relationship with either Liara or the human crew member "assigned" to your Shepard's gender, both of whom seem clearly into Shepard from the very beginning. The worst part is the confrontation you get if you apparently flirted with more than one companion, where they make you choose, which happened to me once because talking to Kaidan as FemShep without being blunt can be tricky. I had to laugh the first time that happened. There's the Virmire decision, but I feel that the romance is entirely tangential to it overall, despite it making it pretty messed up if you actually save the one you're romancing.

The only character in the entire ME series that I feel really has any meaningful plot-heavy romance is Liara, and that's primarily because of Lair of the Shadow Broker.

DA:O does it a bit better, though the bribery mechanic of gifts kind of cheapens it a bit, so you can be a total homicidal maniac, but Leli will still love you so long as you give her flowers and a taste of your fat lute.

DA2 is an interesting one though, because Isabela's a key player in the Qunari plot, and we have a pretty good amount of ways for it to be resolved, both for the plot itself and their relationship after depending on the prior decision. I'd say that Isabela's plot in relation to her romance arc is one of the better ones across the board.

Only eight? I wanted twelve.

Anyway, all my characters are a light brown color like me, so that rules out the two who only like white males, I do not believe I could romance a Krogan, and how is a human mistaking for a krogran?

Anyway, based on your list, I would only have two options.
