Doesn't like Cassandra, Cass, arguably the best companion in the game but loves Cullen. Yeeesh, really need a dislike button on these forums. Sera was fine also, provided many lols.
Romance options should take a big back seat to the story and action.

I think in regards to Cass it is her as a romance option, I think the straight male romance options weren't written to be people straight males would want to romance but the type of romances women would like straight males to want to romance.
Perhaps I am wrong but if I were a guy and I were to hit on somebody like Cassandra only to have her grunt at me disgustedly I don't really think I would bother, there is no point chasing somebody who does not reciprocate your feelings and if they are going to be a ****** about it they really aren't the type of person I would want to romance, the straight male romances all seem to be written around the idea that men are disgusting pigs that need to get down on their knees and beg the woman to take pity on them while the romances for straight females are all based around men who constantly feel inadequate of the affections of this goddess of a woman, you can tell the game was written by female writers.
As bisexual female I would totally romance Cass if she wasn't only for men. I somehow don't understand BioWare. They've made 100% stereotypical gay Dorian but they've made Cassandra - like they wanted to break some stereotypes but they forgot it and made Dorian. Or they made Dorian and wanted to counter him with something.
I need to agree with Queen about that "constantly feel inadequate of the affections of this goddess of a woman" - it was creepy as hell when Blackwall acted like he isn't worthy of Inquisitor. The hell dude, do you have ANY self-confidence? Not sure if it really has to do anything with gender of writers, it feels more like they wanted to be "progressive".
Not sure I see your point, personally I feel you are just nitpicking, to be honest the white just kind of slipped in there as it has for some reason become an involuntary reflex to couple "white" with "straight male", perhaps this shows my subconscious racism in that I can't recognize that any other race than caucasian can be a straight male but I think it is that in popular media when talking about the greatest evil in the world "white" has become synonymous with "straight male" that it has become an involuntary reflex, meant to be straight males in general regardless of their race so just ignore the white part.
greatest evils in the world and white and you don't see where this is going wrong? I understand hating on the Jews is coming back in popularity, want to go for that one as well.
Initially I was just poking fun. but, wow.

They are written as people first, who just happen to be straight, gay, bi whatever. Not just some quota to fill.
Meh those guys loss, have many pals on this board who were very happy with Cassandra and rightly so, she is a fabulous character and her romance arch is hilariously adorable. She is the biggest softie underneath all that brassiness, a romantic, if you'd bother to get to know her character better. Also I don't know how you got the idea that "the straight male romances all seem to be written around the idea that men are disgusting pigs that need to get down on their knees and beg the woman to take pity on them." You took this away from the Cass and Josie romances, I... what?

It was sarcasm, I thought the straight white male was enemy no1 in the SJW camp?

Probably the fact that she initially seems disgusted by your attempts to show your affection towards her, also the fact that in order to woo her she makes you jump through hoops and read her poetry as if you have to prove your worthiness to her by catering to her every whim. I don't know perhaps the guys on these forums are willing to put up with that but I sure would not.
Honestly, it wouldn't bother me, I'd take a gay Turian over a Krogan anyday. But, my own gender and preference, doesn't effect how I RP. If it's written well, I could care less.

What, you want Skyrim-tier romances?
"I like you, Cass"
"Oh, I like you too!!"
"Let's get married!"
You do realize that Cass doesn't know you well enough at first and you're surprised she gets annoyed at your flirt attempts? Really? As for "whims", the same exactly applies to every romance. Everyone, except maybe IB, wants to know you better before going forward.

He also rings very strongly of court love, which is all about the knight having to prove himself to his lady as he is not worthy of her perfection. Or something.

I think there were more than a few guys (I wouldn't say most, or even many, since I honestly don't know) who were a bit dissatisfied with their options this time around. I didn't particularly like them either, but that's bound to happen from time to time. Better luck next game, right?
But I sort of have a theory as to why that is. Josephine is, and I hope her fans will forgive me, kind of bland. And Cassandra is hard to love. She fits a very specific type and has a very abrasive personality. I can see how that combination would result in a lot of guys being dissatisfied. Maybe I'm guilty of too much optimism, but I certainly don't think is some kind of childish backlash to women getting more options, or that it has anything to do with physical attractiveness. I find Cassandra to be pretty damn hot until you get to know her ![]()

Seen plenty of those threads around here and yeah you're giving alot of em too much credit. Most of it boiled down to shallow reasons and now having to sit in the same boat as the gays. Hi, it's not so bad here, we're used to it. ![]()

I can't help but give Blackwall a pass on that one, because dude is kinda wracked by guilt. If he was just some honorable knight or an actual Grey Warden, rather than a lying imposter whose only goal in life now is to redeem himself, it'd probably be a much different dynamic.
Honestly, I get it. Since, y'know, Blackwall is...
Spoiler
He also rings very strongly of court love, which is all about the knight having to prove himself to his lady as he is not worthy of her perfection. Or something.
Blackwall also isn't even a knight. He is a commoner.
That would, in a quasi-medieval society, totally make him unworthy of Josephine in the eyes of most. The whole courtly love thing is one of the elements the writers got right.
If anything, Thedas needs a little more medieval atmosphere and a little less 21st Century people in period costumes.

Every time I hear "gay" used as an adjective I want to giggle. I guess is because "the gays" makes them sound like aliens or something. Lock your children and don't go out at night, for the gays are waiting to abduct and probe you! ![]()
I saw those threads too, and they were pathetic for sure. But I like to think they were a loud minority. And it's not like straight men are the only one capable of such a thing, even if they (we...) do whine much more often than anyone else. I remember seeing a couple of people complaining quite furiously that Cassandra was not an option for female PCs.

Even with the Inquisitor he's like that. "You've got the world, and me, on our feet." Or something along those lines. I'm only playing a Trevelyan, but I assume is the same with everyone else. Though it is especially fitting for a Marcher noble. Either way, it really does sound like something your typical Lancelot would say.

^^^
I'd like more romance options such as Kaidan. You could headcanon him as gay, bi or straight, whatever you want. I honestly don't get the complaining "everyone is bi". If you pick someone who's bi as your straight person romance, does it really matter that they're bi? Bi woman doesn't count towards straight male romance? Why exactly?
I say, make them as much different as possible, so I can play in different ways. I never thought I'd pick Liara in ME1, but I did and it was really satisfying. I also had a side Thane romance, and realized I don't give a f*uck about the gender or species, lol. Idk, that's what's appealing in RPG to me, you can do stuff you normally wouldn't in real life, I just picked whomever I liked the most as a character. I actually initially wanted Garrus, but he gave me the old 'calibrations' line, the f*ucker. My renegade, on the other hand, chose Kaidan & later Traynor. I was half tempted to create a male character for other romances, especially the unattainable ones (like Jack or Cortez), but meh, I can't stand the guy, so I just watched them on Youtube.
The only Bioware game where all the potential LIs were bi (or playersexual, if you prefer) was Dragon Age 2.
Meh.
Wouldn't bother me. I use mods. Really don't like playing male characters, but like to experience all the romances. Thats one reason why mods are good.
